I gave birth to my son, Calvin on 11/7/07. I was induced at 39 1/2 weeks after a very serious bout of PUPPPS (I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy!) Anyway, after 3 hours of pushing and an epidural he was born! We enjoyed the first few hours with family and friends visiting and then around 4 hours after he was born, the nurses felt that something was wrong and took him back to the nursery, and eventually the NICU. It turned out that he has a congenital heart defect and they couldn't get his oxygen saturation levels where they needed to be. When the cardiologist stopped in, they found that he had a condition called TAPVR, which can only be corrected with open heart surgery. So, at one month old, my baby went through open heart surgery to "re-route his veins". It was the scariest month of my life, but he did great and now at 8 months old, you would never even know.

I just searched all over the internet before i got my baby's seat. I concluded that the highway patrol station knows more than anyone so i went out there to see what they had to say. I got very lucky, because my baby's infant seat was recalled and i got a radian 65 for free. The officer told me that the radian is the safest because it has a steel frame and all other seats are made of the same plastic. He also said that no seat is more safe than any other because they are all made out of the same materials, because of saftey regulations. THe safest seat is one that is installed correctly and has the right height/weight for the baby. the graco nautilus and the compass true fit both have high weight limits and i like them. I got a lot of info from this website http://www.kyledavidmiller.org/pages/3137/Our_Recommended_Car_Seats.htm
i got a little obsesive, but it was cool because i got a free seat out of it and i never need to buy another. I don't totally agree with the "all seats are the same because they are plastic". I looked at a cosco seat at walmart that was 50 dollars and it felt like i could stomp on it and it would crack.

the alpha omega elite will last a long time, and is in the top 3 in the consumer reports. It is also inexpensive compared to others. THe evenflo titan is too small. I really like the compass true fit a lot and i really like the graco nautilus. I did a lot of research when i was bored. I got a sunshine kids radian for my son, but it was free from the highway patrol station. I wanted to by the nautilus or compass true fit

Message to all This may be interesting to some of you. Seema`s email is seema.modhvadia@rdftelevision.com

Hi there,

I work for a television production company based in the UK . We are currently making a documentary for ITV1 exploring the issues surrounding pregnancy and eating disorders. The film will be a thoughtful and insightful look into this extremely sensitive subject.

We’re in the research stage of our production and very keen to chat to women who are, or have been, pregnant whilst having an eating disorder.

If you’re interested in having a chat or finding out more about our documentary, it would be really great to hear from you. All communication would be in complete confidence.

You can contact me on: seema.modhvadia@rdftelevision.com

Hi Shannon, just out of curiousity, what is PUPPS?!?! I've never heard of that before...And what a scary start in life you son had!!!! I am so glad to hear he is doing much better now, I bet you were a wreck!!!!

Thanks for the advise about the whole sleep issue. Getting overtired is absolutely my daughters problem as well, she would much rather play than sleep and doesn't seem to know how to wind down if that makes sense!!!!

I'll keep you posted if I find a solution that works:)

Thanks for writing to me, it's great to hear happy stories. We had some friends whose little girl passed away from heart problems. As our day grows closer, i get more worried. Our latest delima is that the cardiologist says that it is harder too get good pictures as baby gets bigger , but then turns around and says he doesn't see what the first cardiologist was seeing ?????

hi i found out at 19 weeks that my baby girl has coartaion of aorta which means narrowing of the arotic valve she is going to need closed heart surgary 3-5 days after she is born we have to go to a childrens hospital to have our baby but they are telling me that everything should go fine. the olny other thing that is going wrong is that she is a very small baby and they dont know how much longer they can have her stay in the womb but as long as she keeps growing then she will be fine. happy to hear everything when good with your baby i like to hear good story they make me feel better and not so alone with this. it has been so hard on me and my husband

It's awful. I still have scars from it. I had oozing welts everywhere. It was the worst thing ever. Even my doctor said that she hasn't seen a case as bad as mine ever. She has been around a long time and on the board of gyn. in Seattle. They tried inducing me for a week. Three doses of gel and 12 hours of pit for nothing. I ended up opting for a c-section to get it done and overwith. I said I wasn't leaving hospital without my baby. My itching stopped as soon as he was born but the wounds didn't heal for several weeks. Now I'm trying scar creams to lighten them. Oh well. I'm glad everything is good with your little one and yourself. Next time this shouldn't happen to me. Cross our fingers!!!

I just read your story on the general page. WOW! That must have been so rough. He is a cute little boy! My son is 7month as well. November 4th. How time flies. I'm glad your baby is doing well. Those first few months must have been very scary.

Hi Shannon, thanks for your message, I have to say it's good to know that I'm not the only one who doesn't feel their baby kick yet...'cos who ever I speak to are feeling their babies move and kick..some even see their tummy move...can't wait to feel it!! There's still time for us :) I think it's because we have created mansions for our babies inside, and they have so much room to move, which is why we're not feeling anything :) Good luck!!
