Hi everyone! Little Benji was born at 1:24 am on October 11, 2007. He was 7 lbs. 4 oz. and 20 inches long.
My delivery saga - I woke up with intense contractions at around 3:45
in the morning on October 10 (his due date). We were timing them 2 minutes apart lasting 60- 90 seconds and
around an hour later at 4:45, my water broke. We called the hospital
and they told us to come straight in because prenatal tests showed that
I was GBS positive. It is harmless to me but if Benji got it, he would
be very sick. Since my water broke it was not safe and I needed
antibiotics during labor. When I got to the hospital they did an
internal exam and I was "closed". So they decided to augment my labor
with Pitocin IV. After an hour on Pitocin my contractions got VERY
strong and I asked for an epidural. At around noon, I was checked again
and was 2 - 3 centimeters dilated. Sometimes Benji's heart rate dropped
and they said the Pitocin was causing uterine hyperstimulation and
Benji was in distress so they would often turn off the Pitocin drip.
When they did this my contractions would get very slow and weak. So the
Pitocin would be turned back on and they whole cycle would repeat
itself. At 5:30pm I was checked and was 5 centimeters. During labor my
temperature was creeping up and up and became high. My fever caused
Benji's heart rate to get very high. I was vomiting and shaking with
chills. I was not a happy camper and neither was Benji.
They checked me again at 10:00pm and I was 8 cm and then at midnight I
was 9 1/2 cm. However at the last check they said my cervix was still
thick on one side and Benji was lying face up. If I wanted to have him
vaginally then they would need to use a vacuum extractor on Benji's
head and forceps and I would need an episiotomy. The doctor saw that I
was exhausted and feeling quite ill and Benji was in distress as well.
She recommended an emergency cesarean section. I was a bit scared but
knew it was the best decision in the end and very relieved. Throughout
labor and my surgery Stefan was wonderful and so supportive. I am so
lucky!
The c-section was piece of cake and went beautifully! I wish they
decided to do it sooner! Benji came out singing! Hee hee! Anyways, everything
is fine now except I lost a lot of blood during the c-section and I am anemic. I am so glad to be home in my own bed and Stefan is taking
a week off from work and is waiting on me hand and foot. I wish my
birth experience had been better ( I wanted an all natural water birth - so much for birth plans!) but I would do it all over again a million times for
Benji. He is truly an angel from heaven! It is so wonderful! I am overwhelmed with love and joy every time I look at him! It's amazing how you can love someone so much, that you've only just met! He breastfed like a champion
since the very first time we tried and we are still going strong!

MOMMI~NICOLE - Thursday, 8 May No. But I only usually breastfeed my babies about 3 mos or so, and I've never gotten preggo that sson after just having a baby, could be that the preggo hormones are causing a sudden increase in milk production, let me know what happens :o)
MOMMI~NICOLE - Thursday, 8 May Sounds like some of the symptoms I've had before, I usually get TIRED, and waaay horny :o) I also start getting really hungry or the opposite, no other signs usually until about 6-8 weeks. Best wishes~
blooming-angie - Thursday, 8 May Cheers Sharon, You are right, i am just going to enjoy my new found taste buds!! Everybody thinks i'm having twins as its in both families!. My starting weight was 119lbs and have already gained 10lbs! But hey its part of the joys of pregnancy. Thanks again.
owensmommabear - Wednesday, 7 May Hi Sharon!! Congratz on your cute little boy!! Owen, I would have to say has been a amazingly happy, baby, and like yours, laid back and never cries. Up until around 3 weeks ago. He's been playing strange with his uncle, but other than that, he sleeps through the entire night 9-6. He's just a awesome baby, and i'm glad to hear yours is so great too. I think it may have to do with being a Libra, because my hubby's is a Libra too and my MIL said that he was the exact same way. Something to think about, isn't it?
vikki - Wednesday, 7 May THANK YOU! That's very nice of you to say. congratulations on your little boy! Well done:-) +JMJ+ Vikki
libby1822 - Tuesday, 22 April Hey Sharon! Thanks for your message, doing great!!! Had to go back to school, SUCKS..no other way to put it. I'm a wreck when I have to leave in the morning and I am gone for 6 long agonizing hours so the day goes by really slow. Nothing like pumping your boobs in the bathroom of a nursing home!!!!!!!! Anyway, just gotta get through the next 2 weeks and I can put up some pics ofthe lil guy. I just adore him and I LOVE being a Mommy!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anything new with you and your men??? Any word on the next one? LOL
libby1822 - Friday, 18 April Hey Sharon! Kip made his appearance on Sun April 13th at 3:14 am. He is 8.5 lbs and 21 inches and I am so in love!!!!! Wanted to give you a quick update, at school right now :( Unfortunately the next 3 weeks are gonna absolutely suck b/c I have a crap load of school work to do and I had to leave him today for the first time and was uncontrollably crying so i have no idea how this is gonna work. Have to figure out my breast pump before tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!! I'll write ya later to give more details. Hope all is well over there and your lil Benji is cuter every time I log on!!! Those eyes are killer! :)
bluebutterfly81 - Monday, 14 April I read your post on the breastfeeding page. I am willintg to bet it is hormonal. I am trying to stop breastfeeding/pumping during the day at work and after 6 hours I get crazy and the only thing I can think about is feeding the baby and then I have to pump. Isn't it funny the way our bodies are programed. You did such a wonderful for your baby , something a lot of moms don;t bother to do and you did it for 6 months. that is awesome! I hope the doctor can help you through this. I have a feeling you feel better in a few days when your hormones regulatre. Take Care!
leahs - Thursday, 10 April Hi there, i read your message regarding depression over weaning. I've bf all three of my kids and it doesnt get any easier to wean them. I think that hormones play a huge part in your feelings, just like when you become pregnant. With my last daughter I bf once in the morning and once at night until she was about 15months and I still felt guilty over stopping. If your baby is happy with bottles or even sippy cups you should feel proud of yourself for making it this far, you've done amazing work for your baby. Best wishes.
mizzsnazzy - Thursday, 10 April Hey Sharon, I just read what you wrote...I just wanted to say I know this for sure, that when you are breastfeeding (and this varies) that depression won't trigger as much because you're releasing a certain hormone while doing it. When you stop breastfeeding, or do it once a day, it can trigger irritability and depression, and this soon will pass as soon as your body stabilizes a bit. This is what a doctor told me before. I'm really sorry you feel this way though, hope you feel better very soon.
libby1822 - Sunday, 6 April Hey Momma!!!! How are you? Always nice to hear from ya! I'm hanging in over here, getting really excited but really nervous. I have 2 more days of my Med Surg clinical and then the next 3 weeks I am in my community rotation at a nursing home which should be cake....I have to get through this week, I have a project due on Wed and an exam on Thurs, so anytime after my exam on Thurs will work. (I remind him 4 x a day to stay in there!!!) I can't believe how big Benji is, Jeez! He's absolutely precious, from the pics It's hard to tell who he favors, he seems like a mix of both of you. In my opinion though, he definitely has your eyes, or the shape at least..What do you think???? How's your quest for baby #2 going? Have you made any decisions? Well, I will definitely keep you posted, I finally own a digital camera now so when Kip comes I wil be able to post pics!!!!! Hope all is well, talk to you soon!!!
baby-n-me - Friday, 14 Mar That's cool! The same weight and the same inches too!! I love your baby pics, he's just perfect! I noticed your boppy cover in the slide show, I have the same exact one! lol. Hope your little one is doing well. Little Emma has lost about 13% of her weight since birth, but she's slowly gaining again. Hope all is well with you and your new son!
Corin - Friday, 14 Mar Your son is darling! How old is he now? Congrats to you and your family!
