I'm 39 years old (40 in August) and totally shocked (still everyday) at the fact that I am pregnant with #3. I have two beautiful girls, ages 7 and 10, and needed surgeries and drugs for them to even be here. Many years ago I was told that with all my problems that it would be highly unlikely I would ever be able to get pregnant again, so my husband and I never worried about it (or used birth control, being good catholics) and what do you know? They say if you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans, well he must be laughing!

This is life-changing and my husband and I are still getting used to what this means. But with so many sad and horrible stories you hear everyday, how can you look at this miracle as anything but positive? I have to admit, I'm getting excited. I always loved being pregnant. This time around seems similar to the other two, but I'm much more TIRED.

(Sarah & Lindsey)

My husband and kids came with me today and we found out we're having a BOY! My daughter was supremely disappointed, she REALLY wanted a baby sister, but she's slowly coming around. She'll be fine - and I explained to her, since she's the ONLY girl now, that makes her special. Everyone is very excited for us. Still haven't felt much movement, but the baby was moving on the ultrasound, I just couldn't feel him. Dr. says it should be anytime now. So that's it - it's definitely a boy, we saw all his equipment and even have a photo of it, doesn't appear that there's anyway it could be wrong - it's a boy!

I know, my Greystone bill is through the roof!! I actually went through all my older kids' clothes/shoes yesterday to see exactly what they needed for school. I was amazed to find that my son still had 3 prs of jeans and 2 prs of pants with tags still on them that he never wore last year!!! Not to mention the shirts with tags... I have the "forget what I buy" syndrome and before I know it I have way too much for them. To get to the point, I bought them each 2 new prs of shoes and with the exception of a few more school supplies, they are done. I'm feeling guilty that I still haven't started on the baby's room. I have spent so much $ to make curtains and accessories and I STILL haven't done it. I've GOT to get motivated. I had a really whiney day yesterday, but I'm in a much better place today. How are the baby preparations coming for you?? I know what you mean about not being able to sit with your legs together anymore !

wow - i didn't realize Manny's was closing! he's lucky to get in one good meal before they shut the doors! any place in particular he goes golfing around here? i'm about 40 minutes south of minneapolis in "the sticks" and my husband just got into golf this year...there's a place near our house that he loves - Creeksbend and then there is another he likes but it's really hard - Heritage Links.

The appt on Friday didn't go as we'd hoped. Little bugger wouldn't turn! He said there is a 1 in 4 chance he'll still turn, but I have a feeling that won't happen. It wasn't painful though, which is good. It was uncomfortable. It sort of felt like eating the biggest meal of your life and then having someone make you lay on your back and push all your insides around with a full stomach. What did you think of getting c-sections? Honestly, the thought of it scares the living daylights out of me. Do you prefer them?

As for our lab...oh my gosh...trying to keep her away from the water is nearly impossible. She just loves it. My in-laws live on a lake near our home and when we go over there we throw her in the back of the truck and about 1 mile from the lake she starts whining in the back...the second we get there and let the tailgate down she races to the back of house, down the steps to the lake and jumps off the dock like a ton of bricks. Once she's been in the water she listens pretty well...it's just before she gets in that we have trouble controlling her. We tend not to take her out on the boat very much though because every time my husband jumps into the water she's on his heels and there's not stopping her, LOL. Gotta love those labs and retrievers - they're a handful sometimes!

ONly two months to go! haha... like that makes it any faster~ that's funny this isn't how you planned on celebrating your 40th birthday at all!! Eh... that means its not really your 40th. 39 like your hubby, til next year when you can do it up right!!

I still have this darn cold, its pretty bad so I am calling the doc tomorrow. I have my glucose thing coming up too. yay.. fun...

I know being older makes this a whole lot tougher. It was so much easier in my twenties, I will probably be prego when I am 40 too.. Seeing as I'll be 38 in 6 months and we plan on letting nature take its course.... I may be prego by 40. Eh.. it keeps you young, right?!

Sorry about school starting :( poo poo!!

So are you slowly accumulating all the baby gear you need? We have just started getting clothing. I just have a feeling I am not going to be ready, even though we have had 9 friggin months to prepare! oh brother! hey post a pic of your belly already! SHesh!!! lol!

Hello! Glad to hear that you have enjoyed your vacation so much, although I can't imagine temperatures like that - we have just had a few days where the temp. reached about 86 degrees and that is HOT for the UK. I am glad that it has cooled down again as the heat made me feel tired.

I bet you were pleased to have a night out with just your husband - if you are anything like me, those kind of evenings are a bit too few and far between!

Yes, I am finished at work now - Friday last week was my last day for 13 months. I don't go back to work now until Sept. 2009. I am so glad to be able to wind down a little bit, although we are staying with family this week so time has still been passing quickly - its just great not having to be out of bed so early in the morning.

Its very strange to think that your girls are going back to school in less than two weeks time. Mine have just broken up for 6 weeks. We still have a month to go until our vacation, but it will be good to have a few quiet weeks at home before that. I am hoping to get the final few things sorted out then ready for the baby arriving before we go away for our holiday.

Have you managed to organise anything ready for your little man arriving? I remember you saying that you hadn't kept any baby things from when you had your girls.

Hope you are well and managing to stay COOL over there! Take care

Glad you had some time to relax at the beach. Have you had your GD classes yet? My sugars have been still pretty good so no insulin yet. I had a scan today and my babes are right on target (5 O and 4 14).

HELLO! I tell ya, I hate when school starts! I love the lazy mornings and having my girls home with me. :( When does it begin for you?
The beach vaca sounds refreshing! I LOVE being by the pool! How are you feeling? Any crazy symtoms and discomforts you'd like to warn me about?! I am doing well, except for this horiffic coild I caught! I can barley breath, thank goodness I finally took some benadryl and got a good nights sleep last night. How's that baby doing? Moving like crazy??

Daisey - Tuesday, 29 July
You're back, safe and sound! My eyelids are doing fine, thanks. The incisions are healing nicely but when I rub my eyes, I can feel some thick scar tissue. It didn't hurt, but healing was very uncomfortable. I'm a little concerned about the scarring and am looking forward to my next post-op. Hubby and I are loving the results, though. I take my next GD next week at 28 weeks. Wish me luck! Not much else new. Started working yesterday, which keeps me busy. I enjoy getting out of the house. My boys last growth spurt has really made an impact on the intensity of his movements. I can really see and feel him move and roll now. I just love it! It stops me in my tracks and puts a mile-wide smile on my face! My 3D/4D ultrasound is this Friday. YAY!!!

stacy5175 - Monday, 28 July
hi! Glad you had a nice vacation...hot though! We are currently getting a new furnace, so haven't been able to run our A/C in a few days...hard to sleep at night. It'll be all fixed today! I ended up going to L & D last night, started having contractions while walking, and they didn't stop..so after 3 hours I went to the hospital. They gave me a shot of terbutaline, and they stopped. This happened with both my son & daughter, I had to eventually go on pills. Both of them went full term which is good! Bummed aobut not being able to walk, but it's for a good reason!!! Bummer about the GD! I have to do my test this week. I didn't know that about cold cuts and hot dogs....just had a chili dog last night :)

firstbabyd - Monday, 28 July
I forgot to mention my latest...had a doc appointment on Friday - my first internal exam since I first found out I was pregnant and my little bugger isn't head down! AAHHH!!! He has to be head down by now because I'm getting induced at 39 weeks because of the diabetes (just because he may be bigger than average). I have to go to the hospital on Friday and have an external cephalic version performed (where they try to manual put him in the head down position by pushing and pulling on my abdomen). I'm not excited...eck!

I think it's about time for baby to make his grand entrance already!

firstbabyd - Monday, 28 July
Wow - a week at the beach! I'm jealous! I spent Saturday on our boat and that's it! LOL! Good for you!

Once you have a "diet" in place things will get much, much easier - I promise!! They should give you serving size sheets and some ideas about what's ok and what's not. Do they have you keeping a journal about what you've been eating at all? They had me do that and it was helpful...but if you're not, don't worry.

Yep - that is a golden lab in the picture with me. She's my other baby - Dakota. She's a purebred lab but she's more of an ivory color (but with yellow ears, a yellow stripe down her back and yellow tip of the tail). She has a cute little brown nose and golden yellow eyes. Do you have a lab?

Libbaby4 - Monday, 28 July
Yes, my oldest 2 are in school which starts for us in 3 more weeks. I kept telling them last school year that the baby would be here shortly after they started school again. Now it is almost here, eeek! My 2 yr old is in mother's morning out 2 mornings a week starting in Sep. which helps alot. When he naps in the afternoon, so do I . Good luck staying cool in this heat!

You will do great. It is a bit easier when the older siblings are old enough to take care of things on their own and even help you a bit. If they are hungry they can actually get their own snack lol! By the time the baby gets here you won't be able to imagine your life without a 3rd child.

Libbaby4 - Saturday, 26 July
I stumbled upon your page and had to leave you a quick note! I live in the Atlanta area and I am having a surprise #4 baby. It took my hubby and I over a year to get pg with our third. I was on the pill and 5 days after my youngest turned 2, I had a positive pg test. So, I know what you mean about being totally shocked. Good luck to you, I hope things go okay with your GD.

sparklyval - Wednesday, 23 July
Hi, Sorry to hear about you failing the 3 hour glucose test...GD...what a pain that must be. I hope your appointment goes well with the nutritionist. 2 weeks seems a long time to wait. Good luck with that!

I hope you have had a fantastic holiday! I am SO ready to get away... still working! My last day is Friday - it can't come soon enough!!
Looking forward to hearing about your vacation soon.
Valerie x PS Thank you so much for your kind birthday greeting...the best present was seeing our little bubba at the ultrasound appointment! It was an amazing experience.

firstbabyd - Saturday, 19 July
it took me a long time to get into the nutritionist too, which i thought seemed odd. if you want a few tips as to what some serving sizes are and how to "count" carbs just let me know...i'd be happy to share if it would help out until you have your meeting!

i told my family and friends if they want to come over and see the baby they must bring goodies...the first things on my list - a gallon of apple/cherry/grape Welch's juice, a pitcher of those Perfect Margartias from Applebees and a box of Lucky Charms cereal. so i'm right there with you on the fat alcoholic plan.

have a great weekend too!

Daisey - Saturday, 19 July
Oh crap! I'm so sorry to hear that. :-( I can't imagine. I take mine again in 2 weeks. You ate half a large pizza? Sounds like something I would do. My husband is making pizzas this very moment - yummy gourmet ones. No doubt I'll out do you! ;-) Enjoy your time at the beach! You deserve it. I'm doing ok. Had cosmetic eye surgery on Monday (fat eyelids) and so this has been an even more uncomfortable week, but I do think I look a little cuter! From the neck up, that is! :-)

stacy5175 - Saturday, 19 July
oh bummer, so sorry! I know how you feel, no alcohol, no sushi...I've been eating cold cuts and soft cheeses though...not a lot..why aren't you supposed to eat cold cuts? Nitrates? Soft cheeses because of the unpasturization right? Have fun at Hilton Head Island, sounds relaxing! My little one, is having a hard time since her surgery yesterday. Pain all day/night :( I can't wait til after the baby, to drink some wine or a martini and have some fun with a little buzz!

sparklyval - Friday, 18 July
Hi Jessica!

I am guessing that you are pretty busy getting ready for your holiday? Is it tomorrow that you go away? Don't worry if you can't write before you go away - I know from experience how hectic things can be in the day or two before a vacation. I hope that you can relax and enjoy it!

Have you had any news from your 3hr glucose test? Just wondering how things are? My appointment with the midwife yesterday went well. All the usual checks were fine - blood pressure nice and low (117/61) and the baby is measuring spot on target for 28 weeks. She took blood for various tests including glucose to check for GD. If I don't hear anything soon then I have to assume everything is ok and if not I will have to go through the same 3hr testing the you have just had.

I have booked an appointment for a private 3/4d scan. We (the whole family) are going on Sunday at 1pm. It will be great for my two girls to see the baby....we are all looking forward to it.

It has been a good day here. I have just been for a nice lunch with my husband as it is my birthday today (I am 37 - eek! Getting closer to 40!!) and it is also my Wedding Anniversary. I got married to Antony 16 years ago today. As we both work at the University we could meet up for lunch easily - so we went to a nice restaurant for lunch without the children. It was very relaxing! The only downside is that I have to work today....only a couple more hours to go until I can go home!!

On the subject of names then we think the baby will be called Erin Iris. Just in case we have chosen a couple of boys names too - Harvey and Alfie!! I know these scans are normally right, but you never know....

I hope that things are OK with you. I will try and add some images from the scan done on Sunday. Take care and have a great weekend/holiday.
Valerie

Sorry to hear about the GD. I too was diagnosed with it and am expecting twins - it has seemed impossible to eat enough - I am always hungry. Since my first week of testing I was able to control my sugars the dietician said I could every hour (instead of every two) and now I just have to test once or twice a day when I able just to monitor the rest of the pregnancy. Good luck.

firstbabyd - Thursday, 17 July
i read your comment about GD and I don't think you're being selfish at all. i was very angry when i found out i had it! on top of losin out on the usual goodies in life while pregnant you have to miss out on the carbs and sweets too! a couple of good snacks i found are some organic fruit strips by archer farms at target - only 8 grams of sugar...and now quacker oats makes a low sugar oatmeal that i found is great in the morning or even as a snack! pringles individual snack packs are great for snacks or with lunch. smuckers makes no-sugar jams and preserves which i find are great for lunchtime pb&j sandwiches. good luck to you!

mamacakes - Thursday, 17 July
Hi..read your comment about the GD....I have it to...UGH! Sucks big time! But atleast its not forever! Anyhow...Some little tricks i have learned that work for me is at the end of lunch and dinner, if i finish it off with a tossed salad and a walk it gets my levels WAY down. Also for that sweet tooth...those 100 calorie packs are real good. I also find that i can splurge just a bit with a handle full if M & M's or something as long as I have it RIGHT after a testing. This way, by the time i have my next test, its outta my system...LOL...if you need any meal ideas or anything dont hesitate to ask. I have some good ones that are good for the whole family....I REFUSE to cook seperate meals! LOL Good luck!
