baby development

7/11/2008 - It's been over a month since I last added. Work has been so busy. Being a real estate paralegal is tough, especially at the end of the month. It only took me about two days to get back into the swing of things at work and after that I was back to my old productive self. I thought that maybe I would forget how to do my job while I was out because I had stayed out for 10 weeks, but, no. Now the hard thing is trying to get the two little ones on a good schedule. My son was taken out of day care when I returned back to work so he's been adjusting to being at home with a nanny every day. Hard for him especially because he's not known anything else but, he's going to summer day camp shortly for one week and then preschool in September. He'll get along just fine. London is getting bigger. I swear she put on 3 pounds in the past couple of weeks. She holds her head up really well now. She has rolled from belly to back and did it about 3-4 times in a row but of course once we got the camera out she stopped. She tries, oh so hard, to roll from back to belly and gets stuck on her side. She' s talking a lot and squealing and lauging. It's funny to see her get her little personality on. Still breastfeeding mostly exclusively. I say this because whilst I'm at work I pump twice a day. It's usually enough for her but she's not been sleeping well at night. She still gets up every two to three hours for food. I have had the sitter mix her bottles as 2 oz breastmilk and 1-2 oz formula. She usually drinks about 3-4 ounces a feeding. This weekend both Garrett and London are getting Baptized and then we're having a party afterwards. I can't wait to see the two of them all dressed up.

6/2/2008 - First Monday in June and my baby girl is getting bigger. Last Thursday, she had her two month well child check up at the doctor. She was 9 lbs 15 ounces, one oz. shy of 10 lbs. She was 22 3/4 inches long. She got 4 shots and one oral vaccination for rotovirus, which was not available when her older brother was a baby. This I'm glad about as my now 15 year old had the rotovirus when he was 11 months old and it was absolutely horrible. She's now graduated to two nightly feedings instead of 3 or four although, I don't feel like I'm getting any more sleep than before :O) Next week on Wednesday will be my first day back to work. I'm looking forward to it and getting back into the groove of things but nervous about getting enough sleep and being able to get my workouts in while taking care of the kids at the same time. Well, I did it once before, I can do it again :o))

5/12/2008 - Day after Mother's day. It's been a while since I've been on this site. Busy with everyday life w/ my newborn. London is doing well and big brother Garrett is adjusting quite nicely. He helps mommy a lot by giving London her binky when she's crying or covering her body up with a blanket when she's sleeping. He loves to kiss her on her head and touch her little hands and feet. She's starting to coo at me more and it's so cute. We have little conversations with each other. Sleeping is still a little touch and go. We have good nights and bad nights. Sometimes she sleeps really well and sometimes she just doesn't seem to want to settle. On Saturday the 9th, she spent most of what was the first night in her own bed. She started out good and mad it through a couple of feedings but from 4-5 am she wouldn't settle and go back to sleep so I let her come into the bed with me and off to dreamland she went :O)) She needed some mommy-love.

4/30/2008 - London was crying this morning so I picked her up and started talking to her and she gave me the biggest, brightest smile! Oh it was absolutely so cute! I can't wait to get a photo of this!!!!! My baby girl is getting big!

4/28/2008 - 4 weeks and 2 days old. She's getting bigger. We had our one month well baby last Wednesday. She was 7# 15.5 oz so just a hair under 8#. Weight is in the 10th %. She is 21 inches long. Height is in the 50%. She is a little peanut of a girl. She eats well, sleeps well and has a very content demeanor. I couldn't ask for a better baby. The only time she really cries is when she wants to be held (to go to sleep) or if she has a gas bubble hiding in her. She's not too good at burping :o)) I can't believe how quickly the time is going by. I definitely cherish being at home with her, alone, bonding and loving one another.

4/12/08 - London is two weeks old today. I sang her a little Happy Birthday at 2:10 pm. I don't think she thought much of it :o)) I can't believe that in another 4 days my son is going to be 15 years old!!!! OMG - but I don't even feel old :o))

4/5/08 - London is 1 week old

Since I gained only 30 lbs this pregnancy - the least amount that I have gained while pregnant - I am noticing changes in my body everyday when I look in the mirror. Today I am 14 pounds down from my birth day weight and I have 16 more to lose before I get back to my prepregnancy weight. I have a feeling at some point I'll stop losing and need to kick up some exercise. Hopefully by that time I'll be sleeping more.

Had the baby on Saturday March 29th, 2008. My birth story has been posted.

3/28/08 - 39 Weeks/1 day

Went to the Dr. today. He checked my cervix and I am 80% effaced and a little more than 2 centimeters dilated. Due to this, he is NOT going to admit me tonight to give me ripening gel for my cervix. He asked that I come to the hospital tomorrow morning at 7:30 for induction. Our plan of attack - break the amniotic sac to see if labor will start on it's own. Cannot wait. Very busy today. I'm finishing my shopping, cleaning and laundry in preparation for not being here over the weekend as well as not being able to really do too much of anything when I come home. I'm sooooo excited to know I will be meeting my little girl tomorrow!!!

3/24/08 - 38 Weeks/4 days

Woke up today - wanted to cry because I was not in labor yet. Had a non-stress test today which I passed and they said the baby was doing well. Even had a contraction during the 20 minutes they had me hooked up.

Then off to an appt. with my OB. I joked with him about inducing me while he listened to the baby's heart rate (he said she was doing well). He tells me that if I'm back in the office next week at 40 weeks then he will go over my options then. So he reaches for his measuring tape. In the interim, he proceeds to go on and on about how he hates to induce people because it's harder for the mom and labor is usually longer. As he's measuring my belly, he looks back at my file and says "I'm going to get you in here sooner for induction".

Apparently, I haven't gained any weight and the baby is not getting a big as he would like her. Last Monday at my ultrasound they estimated her to be approx. 5 lbs/5oz. He never told me how "small" she's measuring today but doesn't want to wait much more than me being a full 39 weeks, which will be this Thursday. So, off he went to check his "on call" calendar and found that he's on call this weekend. So he says, "How's Saturday?" and I replied "SUPER!!!".

I have an appt. with him again on Friday morning and he's going to check my cervix. He told me that he would let me know then if he wanted me in Friday night or Saturday morning. I'm presuming that he would want me in Friday night to get my cervix primed for pitocin on Saturday morning. Last he checked though I was already about 70% effaced. I opted not to get checked today so I'm not sure if I progressed from last week.

So my last official day of work will be Thursday because Friday I will be cleaning my home and getting things ready for my hospital stay. I'm just so elated in the thought that I will be meeting my baby girl this weekend and if she decides to come on her own before then...even better. I think the best part is knowing there is an end and exactly when it will be :o)

3/22/08 - 38 Weeks/2 days

Made it another week at work. Good for me - more money. I just keep telling myself that. No matter how much I want this baby out, she's going to come when she's ready and the longer I can make money at work, the better. It will only help me in the long run when I'm out on disabitlity....gotta love NY State!

3/19/08 - 37 Weeks/6 days

Dr. appt. today. He was concerened about her size and also about my job. Thinks that I might be under too much stress and that might be a factor in why she's small. But then also said that her size was ok and her heart rate was good. I guess they're just used to people having bigger babies in my regional area. He's sending me for another "small for gestational age" non stress test on Monday 3/24 and then right up to this office for an appointment. He noticed that she crept upward in my tummy again and her head is not engaged anymore. I'm not sure if it ever was but I have been having a hard time again with my gastritis...most likely from pressure on my stomach. So now he's watching her size and where she's laying. She's laying diagonal. He told me that if I go into labor to be sure to call him and tell the nurses at the hospital that my last exam showed she was not all the way head down. At this point, I want to be done with work but can't afford to go out on disability unless there's a baby to show for it. Maybe she won't go down and he'll try to either induce, to see if she'll turn while in labor or take her by c-section. At one point she was breech and he said that if she didn't turn he would take her at 39 weeks via c-section. We shall see. I'm actually hoping to make it through this weekend so that I can be with my 3 year old for Easter weekend. We're planning on taking him on an easter egg hunt on Saturday.

3/17/07 - 37 Weeks/4 days

Had my ultrasound today. They determined, or should I say "estimated" that the baby's about 5 lbs 5 oz. They said that she is small. In the 4th percentile. They checked my fluid level and her heart rate and both were good. Then, in the afternoon went for a "small for gestational age" non stress test. Passed as her heart rate was fine there as well. Dr. appt. on Wed. the 19th to go over results. I really kind of hoped to be induced but she needs more cooking time :o)

3/13/08 - 37 Weeks

Good news! Went to Dr. today. 70% effaced and 1.5 cent. dialated. YAY!! He did say that I am measuring a little small and he is sending me for an ultrasound to be sure that my placenta looks good and my amniotic fluid is not low. He said that it could just be the way that I carry her. He estimated her size to be about 6 lbs right now but not as much as 6 and 1/2. Ultrasound is Monday morning at 9 am and my follow up appt. with him is Wednesday the 19th so I'll find out then if I get to be induced or if I get to let her go on her own.

3/7/08 - 36 weeks 1 day

I feel so big and heavy!!! I'm starting to have fears about giving birth, pushing the baby out, labor, etc., that are making me very anxious. I am so not ready for this baby to come. I have only done one load of laundry for her and I haven't even had my shower yet. That's this Thursday at work. It's kind of hitting home now because one of my tickers say the baby is due in 3 weeks and 6 days...3 weeks!! EEK! I can only hope she stays in for at least one more week to let me get stuff done :o )

2/28/08 - 35 Weeks

I'm so ready to get this over with. Since this is my fourth, I think I can safely say...I don't want anymore. I'm satisfied and will most likely not be going through any more preganancies. I can't wait to meet my baby girl and can tell that she's running out of room in there. Her movements are starting to get painful to say the least, definitely uncomfortable. I can't imagine that she's comfy in there :O) I'm giving her two more weeks to 37 weeks and then I'm going to try a little induction of my own.

2/8/08 - 32 Weeks/1Day

Well, work is starting to take a toll on my body. The longer I sit the more achy I am. I had an appointment w/ my OB on Wednesday. I'm finally down to every other week appointments now. He did confirm that the baby is not breech anymore...not that I have any more room in my tummy for food! LOL! She seems to be a big girl. I can't wait to meet her!

1/29/08 - 7 months

Getting uncomfortable now. Especially trying to sleep. I think I have that restless leg syndrome because I'll just be starting to fall asleep and then all of a sudden one of my legs will feel like I need to shake it or something. Weird.

Some weird sensations going on in my belly too. Baby is breech, which was revealed at our last ultrasound. Eating is a P.I.T.A. and for the most of the day I don't feel well. UGH - at least there is a light at the end of the tunnel :o)

1/8/08

Went for my follow up ultrasound today. Baby girls choroid plexus cysts are gone!!! YAY!!! They also confirmed (once again) that it is a girl and said she weighs about 2 pounds, 10 oz. I couldn't be happier!

12/14/07

Went to my 24 week check today. Baby's heart sounds good. She even gave a little kick while the Dr. was listening. I'm scheduled for another u/s on Jan. 8th to see if the Choroid Plexus Cysts have gone. He did reassure me that the technician did look for the "other common markers" that most babies with a chromosomal abnormality have. That felt good to hear. I'll feel better if they're gone at the next u/s.

I am now pregnant with my fourth child (2nd for DH and I), and I do believe this will be the last pregnancy :O) I have 3 boys aged 14, 11 and 3 and am now expecting my first girl!

We had our ultrasound about at 18 weeks which revealed Bilateral Choroid Plexus Cysts on my baby girl's brain. DH and I have done much research on the subject and feel that our little angel is fine although until you get that 2nd ultrasound, you always have it in the back of your mind.

It's nice see a website completely devoted to us preggo's :) I'm also a myspace-er, although it's not the same :O) It's nice to chat with people that are going through the same changes (physical and emotional).

Thanks so much for the comment on my blog. I am def going to get a second opinion. I know, they should have done a second pap first... i got them done duing pregnancy,. and they came back normal. So weird how all of a sudden it could change,,,

sickasadog - Sunday, 8 June
I would think that you normally would not need a/c where you live; heat is definitely more important along with a snow blower. ha ha ha... I would be cranky also. I hate the heat. I live here because I married a florida grown man. I would prefer colorado. I hope the weather goes back to normal.

sickasadog - Sunday, 8 June
hi, things are good in florida. it is very hot here. I hate the high humidty. I see that it was hitting the 90s up there. i would not want to feel 90 degrees in a smog city. You are out of the city, right? anyway, the trip was great!!! the flights were good and the security handled our baby and all his stuff with patience. ha ha ha... It was hot in nebraska also. I believe it was around 85 degrees there and my uncle's ac broke. I wanted to get a hotel, but did not want to insult them.

mommyinthesky - Wednesday, 28 May
Hi, Jacob was awake almost all day yesterday and sure enough he was up last night. I didn't feed him though. I tried the "comforting in other ways" thing the doctor suggested, so it was a lot of rocking, picking him up and putting him down. It took a long time though. So far today he's been awake a lot too. I put him in the swing for a nap and he cried, but eventually stopped. He has a diaper rash again from our long drive and using wipes instead of the wet wash cloths, so back to the washcloths and we'll see how long it takes to get his schedule back after that road trip.

mommyinthesky - Tuesday, 27 May
Actually, the long naps in the afternoon can help the nighttime sleep sometimes unless it's in the early evening. When Jacob has great long naps, he sleeps well at night. Today he's way off after our long car trip to Denver. He's been up since 6am with only a 1 hour nap and it's almost Noon, so he's not doing well today. It's about time to feed him though and I hope he'll sleep after that. Hope all is well.

zoee - Sunday, 25 May
Thanks snowie. You have beautiful children too. Your baby girl is such a cutie! keep doing what you are doing....sounds like you are doing a great job. Your baby will let you know if she needs more milk :-)

mommyinthesky - Friday, 23 May
Yes, Jacob has been sleeping through the night now for over a week. All I was trying to do was get the naps under control because his were all over the place too and he also enjoys sleeping in his car seat and I was waking him up to eat, but then he wouldn't sleep when he was tired. He was always on a 3 hour feeding schedule and I was afraid to mess with it. I was also afraid that putting him to bed at 10 or 10:30pm was too early and would cause him to wake up more times at night, but the opposite happened. So I make sure he is awake at 9pm and I keep him awake with a bath and play and feed him and he's out. He has a CD he likes at bedtime too. As for his daytime naps, he still takes about 3 and the length of time is different for each nap, but it's not like 20 minutes here, 30 minutes there like it was, it's a real nap. So this book mentioned that better naps lead to better sleep at night which I didn't really believe, but that's what happened. I'm still trying to work with him on the evening time though. From about 6pm-9pm it's hard because it's like he does want to go to sleep earlier, but then that messes up the bedtime, so maybe in a couple weeks I'll try moving his bedtime earlier, but I just don't want to mess up the sleeping through the night. The pediatrician says to never feed him in the middle of the night again because he's proven he can do it.

mommyinthesky - Thursday, 22 May
Hi, I'm the one who mentioned the book about 90 minute sleep cycles. The book does say that some babies range from 70-90 minutes. My baby starts his yawns around 70 minutes. If 60 minutes works, then go with it. Babies can sleep at any time, it's just that if you get that window of time right, the sleep for long periods of time. If the baby goes to sleep at the 60 minute makr, does the baby stay asleep for a long time?

Jo-Mama - Thursday, 22 May
Malone has her moments. Lately she's been a growling bear between about 6 and 8 pm. And even though she usually only wakes once a night, it takes quite a while to get her back to sleep (sometimes an hour).

I get 4-5 oz if I pump from the right boob (that's the one that Malone feeds from and I only pump if she sleeps through a feeding or gets a bottle because I've been out). I only get 2-3 oz from the left one (my main pumpin' boob). My goal is to freeze 6 oz a day and I now have quite the bank in my freezer.

jessicadarling - Thursday, 22 May
With the 90 minutes of sleep go with your babies signs. Yesterday Devyn fell asleep after an hour after her first set of 90 minutes awake 90 minutes napping. So instead of keeping her up i just let her nap for 90 minutes again and then woke her up to feed her. It worked great for us yesterday. She was asleep right after her bath last night. Unfortunately when I tried to move her from her swing to her crib she woke up so She was wide awake for another 90 minutes and fell into a deep sleep from 10:30 at night until 3:30.. I fed her at 12:30 while she was still asleep just before I went to bed and it worked really great.

biziemom - Thursday, 22 May
yeah damien is still sleeping with me too. he is sleeping through the night finally, im glad too i was starting to get those lovely dark circles around my eyes.
he is growing so much, and he smiles so often, when i put him on his tummy he can hold his head up 90 degrees. and he is cooing ir talking a bunch. is london doing anything new?

Jo-Mama - Wednesday, 21 May
Maybe you just have fast milk. I only feed for about 5-10 minutes too. I pump and I can get 4 oz in 5 minutes, so I think I just have firehose boobs! Thank god - I would hate having to feed for half an hour at a time.

Jo-Mama - Wednesday, 21 May
Malone's been doing well. She has slept from about 9-3 for 3 or 4 nights now. It's been wonderful! How's your princess?

zoee - Wednesday, 21 May
Hi snowie....please dont worry, just because she is only on the breast for short periods doesnt mean she is not feeding properly. Your baby may just be pretty good at getting what she needs with no fuss. My baby is the same, she is on for five mins max at a time and weighs a almost 11lbs at almost 6 weeks. As long as she is putting on weight and having plently of wet nappies I am sure everything is fine :-)

sickasadog - Wednesday, 21 May
hey sweet! i just love that photo that you have up there. I am doing much better. The baby is just starting to not reflux as much so my stress level is going down. ha ha ha... how are you doing? what is the weather like? just wondering what i should pack for the baby going to nebraska next week.

biziemom - Wednesday, 14 May
i think every 3 year old is like that, my biggest worry is that they try to pick damien up and im not right there and damien gets hurt, my 19months old has this idea that damien is her baby doll. they are all loving to him and i know it wouldnt be on purpose but i still worry.
