Paige Veronica's Birthstory ~ Born 06 January 2008 @ 2:08am

Weight: 9.91/2 lbs or 4360 grams

Length: 54 cm's

Finally!!!, I went into labour on Saturday the 5th January. Real (non BH) contractions started at 2.40pm and by 6pm I was at the hospital (1 hour before my scheduled induction!) to find I was 2-3cm dilated and in active labour, so the latent phase was very nice and fast.

When my contractions got to be about 3-5 mins apart I went on the gas. About this time, a women in labour in another room started screaming out in pain and we could hear her despite the fact the rooms were sound proof! It seemed that everytime she screamed I got a contraction, like we were insynch or something! I got rather stressed out listening to her so decided to get in the shower for awhile, which worked wonders in drowning out her screaming and dulling the pain.

My widwife eventually called for me to get out so she could monitor my progress. My husband left to get something to eat and came back with pizza stinking of garlic and I was complaining `ooohhh garlic` while thinking, if the baby decides to come out too quick now it will be cos she can smell that yummy pizza lol and it will be all daddy`s fault. We even feed my mw, who loved the pizza and wasn`t shy about helping herself to seconds later ont!

By 10pm I was 6cm dilated and the contractions were getting extremely painful and coming hard and fast. My husband was a pillar of strength standing calmly by my side the whole time. This helped calm me down a lot, as did him telling me to slow my breathing down when the contractions were happening. Rather than break his hand off, I grabbed a big clump of his t-shirt and squeezed the heck outta that! Surprisingly, I never abused him once!

After awhile I could handle the pain no more and asked for an epidural. It took a good half an hour for them to perform as the next available anaesthetist needed to be called in from another ward. It was finally carried out and by 10:30pm the pain was gone! For the next 2 and a half hours I was able to sit up and relax, drink a cup of tea and chat away to the mw and my hubby. Then at 1am my mw announced it was time to push. She told me when a contraction was happening (as I did not feel anything) and as she held one leg and my hubby the other I was told to give two to three really good pushes. It didn`t hurt at all, but it was really tiring and nearly everytime I was pushing I would get a heartburn attack which was really annoying as it shortened the amount of time I was able to push the breath out for! My hubby was good in that he keeped stuffing my face with heartburn chewies! It wasn`t until her head was right down in my birth canal and the crowning started that I could feel the pain. This was when I realised I was in transition and that despite the pain, it would be over real soon. I actually found the contractions to be worse than the crowning, but then the epidural probably took the edge off!

One hour and 8 mins later, it was all over and my baby girl - Paige Veronica came out on the bed uttering a wee cry (much to my relief) and with her little left hand signalling the `rock on` sign (it must of been all the Ozzy Osbourne daddy sung and played to her while she was in the womb).

There was meconium in the afterbirth and my placenta was well and truly expired. Not surprising given that she was 11 days post due date. They needed to give my baby an O2 bag to clear all the mucus in her tummy which she did not like one bit. Luckily she had not swallowed any of the meconium and it was clear mucus.

She weighed in at whopping 4360 grams (or 9.91/2 pound) much to everyones surprise as I did not carry that big according to my midwife. Baby must of been well hidden/positioned in there! Unfortunately given her larger size, mummy ended up with a full perinium tear and needed sutures . Now at day 7 (Paige is a week old today!) it hurts to pee and is hard to sit, but it is gradually healing up nicely.

So that`s our birth story. A very positive one in my opinion. It lasted 8 hours which I think is neither too short or too long and I think epidurals are a wonderful scientific invention! Mum and Dad are fairing well despite the sleep deprivation and baby is starting to thrive and has settled in really well. We are so proud of her and totally and absolutely madly in love! She is our darling princess and is as cute as a button! ~ like her mummy of course :0)

Hi! My name is Kellie and for a long time now hubby Shane (married 2 years, together 9 years) and I have wanted a baby. Finally in March this year we were able to make that dream come true! Amazingly, I fell pregnant immediately and we now have a beautiful xmas gift to look forward to!

Between 7 and 15 weeks I suffered severe morning sickness/ nausea (although I never threw up once). The name MORNING SICKNESS is complete hogwash as I found it got worse as the day went on and was especially bad at NIGHT! Just when I thought it wouldn't get any worse, at 11 weeks I was feeling nauseous all day, everyday! The only thing that seemed to help it subside was sucking on and sniffing cut up lemons! Hearing that morning sickness usually lessened in its cruelness by 12 weeks, I couldn't count down the mins/hours/days fast enough! 12 weeks came round however and it still wasn't letting up. I felt like it was never going to end! To make matters worse there would be the odd day where I would feel absolutely fine. This was just down right cruel as I would start to get my hopes up that it was going only for it to turn around and bite me right on the butt again! Finally at about 14-15 weeks it stopped. Since then I have felt 100% better about being preggies :-)

FIRST SCAN -13 Weeks, 2 days

Looks like he/she is sucking its thumb already!

08/07 Finally this morning we found out the sex. We are having a precious wee baby girl!!! We are naming her Paige Veronica (Veronica after my mum's mum who I unfortunately never got to meet). The sonographer even gave us a free 3d picture of her (see below). Seeing her like that was so cool and emotional. She looked so happy in there kicking away like crazy and just loves checking out her hands and fingers constantly. The sonographer said it looked like she was feeding herself grapes she was being so delicate! I can't wait for Week 24 when we have our third scan of Paige entirely in 3d/4d!

20 Weeks, 1 day

hi snowy. congratulations!
I had my baby boy Elijah on the 4th.got induced thursday night, had contractions all night but they started slowing down. Got to sleep at 7am just to be woken at 8am to get my waters broken.Pretty much straight away i felt strong urges to push but he just wasnt coming. His head was facing the wrong way so i had to get the forceps-not nice.He was born at 11.30am.All was fine until sunday the 6th which is when we were going home.He had a few seizures, then got flown to the melbourne hospital. After so many tests etc they said my little man had had a stroke. We just got home tonight. He's doing everything a baby should be doing and looks fine but time will tell if it has had any other effect on him. My head is such a mess, this doesn't seem real. In my heart i know he'll be okay but the fact that i don't know if it will ever happen again makes me worry so much.
HOpe all is well with you, will catch up with you later

OH and by the way,my last two births were natural, was planning on the same for this one but i've got a feeling its gonna be much worse. The thing is,they don't do epidurals here. COs i was considerng one and asked about it.Guess i'll just grin and bare it hey?

kellie~
best wishes to you with your upcoming induction but hopefully you go into labor on your own~ With my daughter I was 41wk3d before they started the gel. Took 4 doses of the stuff over a 3 day period for something to get kickstarted, and when it did, I lost my plug first, started having back pains, got checked and I was 2cm. Contractions were alright, I could handle them, but once my water was broken by the dr, they became very intense. Me wanting to be like my mom and do it all natural, I asked for Demerol to help with the pain- but made me so nauseous I wanted to throw up but couldnt!! BTW demerol reacts differently with different ppl. It just made me a high feeling. So I opted for the epidural, not so bad, worked like a charm on me. So from 930pm on a Fri nite when I was assessed and at 2cm, to 516am Sat morning, when I gave birth, wasnt so terribly long. Just the whole process of waiting for the gel to work before that was the hard part, since that took a few days for it to work out... they also said I was a rare case bc they never have induced someone and have repeated the process 4 times before something would happen... so there is hope for you... :)
Thats basically my story. Nothing exciting but hope things work out for you :) I still have 3 more weeks of waiting before I hit 40 wks then I told the Dr flat out I didnt want to go past 40 wks... which I dont think I will anyways bc my amniotic fluid level is at a 3.5cm, its low, but as long as my baby girl is happy inside and active they wont induce. SO its a waiting period for me... just hope this time around its going to be better and easier then last time
BTW Love the name Paige :) Its my baby girls middle name once she comes :)

hey good luck I have had 2 of my own. The 1st I was 41 weeks and 1 day and my water broke on it's own. With my 2nd I was induced at 40 weeks the induction was no different then naturally so don't worry that much about it. It might take a few hours more that's it.

Hi Snowy - I am also being induced and am worrying a bit. I go in on monday at 9am for Pitocin. I am 1 week over today but last night i lost my entire mucus plug, hope that means my baby is finally coming. Have you lost yours yet?

ede - Wednesday, 2 Jan
Hi Snowy! thanx for your message. Yeah in a way i think it should be ok being that i'm so far over but at the same time i'm really not looking forward to it. My last two biths were so easy. My waters broke both times then cnotractions started.
I was so close to getting induced last time.I was booked in at 5pm on the Thursday but at 2 or 3pm they rang to say i couldn't go in until 8am friday morning. Then at 10pm that night my daughter decided to come and she arrived at 1am friday. So I'm hoping this baby does the same thing. Is yours still really active? Mine is,mainly during the night.

So how are you feeling otherwise? I am so tired and so over being pregnant.I was really trying to enjoy the last few weeks of pregnancy as it is definately my last but this is ridiculas, its not supposed to go on forever!!!
Anyway Keep me posted on how your going ok.Goodluck!

I was induced at 40 and 5 and have to say, there was nothing to it. I can't speak on natural labor as this was my first. I can say this, what they say about pitocin is true...it brings the contractions on quicker and harder. I handled it for about an hour and then asked for an epidural. They stopped the pitocin on me around 4 because I was contracting on my own. I was only in labor for about 11 hours and I pushed for 30 minutes. All so very blessed. Good luck to you.

Hi Snowwy, thanks for dropping by my page. You have to hang in there my friend. Just let it all out. But maybe do it in the toilet. Sometimes, i just feel that i'm going crazy. Told my gynae that i cried for no reasons... feel like nobody loves me... feel so lonely... now i have an upcoming appointment on the 27th Aug to see a psychiatrist which my gynae recommended. She said they need to monitor on further so that i do not have post natal depression. Frankly speaking, i'm quite scared to see this pyschiatrist. What will they do to me ? It's my first time.. As for you, try to think happy thoughts. I'm trying that myself. Good luck and congratulations on your pregnancy.

I hope they don't tell you different b/c it is harder to go back and say its a boy. Especially that you've gotten use to it. That's why I want them to give me there best judgement b/c I'll be pretty upset if its not the gender they told me. I can not wait to get my 3D/4D u/s just too really make sure!

TeeRock - Saturday, 11 Aug
We went to find out the gender of the baby today and it did not cooperate with us. :0( Now we have to go back in two weeks!
