Hello Ladies, My name is Sobri and I just became a new mother! My son was born Feb 11th 2008. We look forward to talking to you moms!
The Birth Story…
I went in to the hospital for my two day induction on Monday
February 11th. During my
last OBGYN appointment that previous Friday my Doctor told me that I was not
dilated my cervix was long and the baby was still high up. He said the Cirvidil would shorten my
cervix. He said I was to stay in the
hospital over night and be started on pitocin the next morning and that would
bring on actual labor.
I went to L&D was changed and put on a monitor to check
the baby’s heartbeat and rate. It was 9 AM when my doctor came he checked me and told
me I had dilated two centimeters during the weekend and was 50 percent
effaced. I showed no contractions on the
monitors so they went ahead and put in the Cirvidil.
Within twenty minutes of the cervidil going and my laying on
one side for a 2hour NS-test I started to feel contractions. I called the nurse in and she told me that I
was feeling normal mild contractions then proceeded to explain to me the
hospitals 1-10 pain scale. She told me
that most new mothers say they are at an 8 when actually they are at a 3. She told me that when it is bad I will
barely be able to speak or smile. I
though ok, no problem. This is only the
beginning and the doctor said that I will get pitocin in the AM anyway.
It started to get even more painful, again I was told to
just breathe it through and I ended up being on the NS-test monitor for 3 hours
since the pain was so bad I kept changing positions to get comfortable. Every time I moved the monitor lost the baby’s
heart rate so I had to start from the time I was actually on again.
Finally after 3 hours on the monitor I was left off. I asked for some pain medication because it
was getting bad. The nurse told me that
I would get Morphine after the doctor comes to check me. He came in around 1pm. I had dilated
to 3 centimeters and was 75 percent effaced.
I received the Morphine and felt more relaxed. I watched some soaps and at around 3:45 the pain and contractions picked up
again. I was given a new nurse and she
came in and checked me. I was still at 3 centimeters. I was given another dose of morphine and that
was it. Did I mention I was not allowed
to eat all day, even though I was told I could?
Also I had a cold from the night before.
The second dose of morphine did nothing for the pain that
was coming so bad at this point I could not speak. About around 6pm
I started asking if this was normal. The
nurse kept telling me that until I was 4 to 5 centimeters dilated I could not
have an epidural. I originally did not
want one, but buy 11am when the pain
intensified I thought that if this is mild contractions labor will kill
me! I had a fever so I was given IV and
some other dose of pain medication that would only last an hour. I forget the name sounds like Phenigen. That worked fine so I fell asleep. An hour later I work up in complete
pain. Pain radiated down my legs. I was given phenigen again and checked I was
still 3 centimeters and nothing had
changed! I was in tears. I could not sit, walk, or lay down in any
position. I checked the time it was 8:00. I
decided to wait until 8:30 and demand
for her to check me out. I laid on my
side when all of a sudden I felt a pop!
I walked to the bathroom and notice I had started to bleed along with
mucus. I called the nurse she came in and when I told her she said it was a
great sign because it was my bloody show and that I would not have to be
induced for long on Tuesday. At this point I was screaming and told her to
check my cervix. She hesitated telling
me that she just checked 3o minutes ago.
I told her to do it and do it now.
When she checked she had a stunned look on her face. Not only was I dilated 10 centimeters I was
in full fledge active labor! I was in
the final stage. I wanted to curse her
out. I wanted to kill her. I was in so
much pain all I kept asking for was an epidural. The walked me over to the labor and delivery
room because a wheelchair would take too long. I got to the room at 8:50. I
was told it was too late for an epidural.
I laid back on the bed they told me to hike my legs up to my stomach and
push with contractions. I was so scared
I did not know what was going on. They
had told me Tuesday! I kept saying all
day something was not right. I was in
too much pain from 5p until then. They thought I was a complaining over
dramatic first time mother. I HAD BEEN
IN LABOR FOR HOURS AND THEY THOUGHT I WAS JUST IN MILD PAIN. I pushed about 6 times and Shane came into
the world at 9:09pm Monday February
11th, 7 pounds 10
ounces. The labor was very hard. The pain, oh that pain. The worse part is
that I was convinced I was not in labor and just having minor pains. The delivery was fast and the best feeling in
the world was the final push and when they put my warm baby on my chest. At that moment I became light. All I felt was love. I worked hard for him. I also thanked the asshole nurse because I
realized that without her being a bitch and not believing me I would have had
an epidural and not have felt my baby come out of me. I love him so much. Words cannot express. I am doing fine. I had a minor tear but all and all it was a
wonderful day pain and all. I would not
have done it differently ignorance was bliss.
