I am a second-time mother-to-be that is embarking on a journey through uncharted territory. While my first pregnancy was a glorious and complication-free experience (can you believe I didn't even have any morning sickness?!!), this pregnancy has been the opposite in almost every respect. I am already high-risk due to my age, but in addition I was diagnosed as having marginal placenta previa and an incompetent cervix at my 23 week appointment. I was ordered by my doctor to go on bed rest immediately for the remainder of my pregnancy and four weeks later, my placenta and cervix are both perfect! Yay! It seems that the real problem was that I was overdoing it and that with the bed rest, I am doing much better. So I am still on bed rest, but now I am allowed to do relaxing things that I enjoy---like going to church, the movies, the spa. I am so very happy and can't wait to meet my precious little girl!

Monday, Cinco de Mayo

It has been quite a while since I updated my profile and lot has happened. Currently, I am playing the waiting game. I am two days away from being 38 weeks and I am wondering if all my suffering through bedrest and pre-term labor scares was for nothing and this baby is going to come out after my due date just like my son!

On the bright side, I have been able to get so much done. The baby has her crib and changing table all set up. I read all the brochures for all her gear and put everything together. Her clothes, etc are all washed and ready for her. Our bags are packed. We traded in my coupe for a small SUV, so Baby Alexandria even has a new car just for her! The house is about as clean as it is going to get. I handled a bunch of annoying personal tax issues and even finally went to Social Security and changed my name to my hubby's and got my new card in the mail. All my big projects at work have been completed too and I hardly have anything to work on these days. . . I've even sent all my thank you notes for the millions of gifts Baby Alexandria has received and I have addressed and stamped all the envelopes for her Birth Announcements. Now I am just waiting for the stats and a picture so I can get those in the mail too. . . Oh Baby when are you going to come and meet Mommy??!!!!

Sunday, 23 Mar
I had my 31 week appointment on Friday and it went fine. She did not do an exam, but she said she trusts me to be the judge of how I am doing and said that I can finally start doing more activities if I want. I have been begging her to let me do prenatal yoga, so that I can stretch and build up my strength. I cannot wait to start that on Monday.
I am so very happy and excited! I am feeling really great! I only wish my doctor would see me more often for additional reassurance. She still said she didn't want to see me until four weeks, which I think is weird. That would put me at 35 weeks and I did have those scary complications earlier. . . We compromised and she is seeing me at 34 weeks.

Yay! I had my 27 week appointment with my doctor today and she said my cervix is closed and my placenta is fine. I am so happy! I can now do some relaxing activities as long as I go straight to bed if I feel any pressure or discomfort. This is so wonderful!

Yesterday was hubby `s B-Day, so I cheated a bit and made him dinner and brownies for dessert. We are having a small party for him tomorrow night with about 20 guests. It was originally going to be at a restaurant, but we moved it to our place after I was put on bed rest. I am pretty excited. We moved a daybed into the living room, so that someone else can actually sit and enjoy the living room while I am laying down too, and I am pleasantly surprised by how nice it looks. I thought it would obstruct my big picture window in the front, but it doesn `t and I actually like the way it looks. Last night, my hubby, my son and I ALL got to lay down and watch TV comfortably together. It was so relaxing and fun!

Today is a good day. Yesterday, my telephone service went out, so I had no Internet service. That was pretty rough. But it was restored first thing this morning. Yay!
I had an appointment with my parentologist yesterday, and of course, he contradicted just about everything my OB/GYN said. He said my placenta looks fine (yay!) and that he would not diagnose me as having an incompetent cervix, because my cervix is still a 4.2, and because I carried my first child for 41 weeks no problem. I don `t want to get my hopes up, because a couple of things he said do not make sense. First, I have read in multiple places that a difficult labor can cause I/C and he does not believe that. Second, he did not conduct a vaginal ultrasound, and I have read that is the only way to really check the cervix for I/C. Finally, my cervix was a 6 when I started, so even though a 4.2 is `normal, ` it still represents a loss of nearly 2 cms in less than two weeks--while on bed rest!
He was adamant about me staying on bed rest and "pelvic rest," which wouldn't make send if he really though everything was so normal. So anyway, it was very good news, and I a am cautiously optimistic. He said to have the fetal fibronectin test done by my OB/GYN so I will do that and also have her do a vaginal ultrasound at my next appt. on the 22nd. Until then, hanging in there! One of my friends is coming for a visit bringing lasagna for us for dinner tonight. Thank God for all the wonderful women in my life. No matter how hard my hubby tries, us women are just so much better at taking care of each other!
Sunday, 3 Feb

GRUMPY, GRUMPY, WEEPY, GRUMPY. . . I have been a real bundle of emotions lately. My poor hubby--I don `t know how much longer he will be able to put up with me. Today, a friend is coming and bringing her girls to play with my son while we chat. Hopefully, it will cheer me up to hang out with a good friend. My husband is not a real talker--we have always enjoyed DOING things together more than sitting around talking about our feelings. So it seems without being able to see my friends often, I am a little too pent up with feelings that have no outlet. Ugh! I have 24.5 weeks under my belt. I will be so happy if the baby and I can hang in there until 30 weeks. It seems like that is such a magic number where you still have a preemie but it is not so bad. 5.5 weeks just seems like an eternity for me right now. . .

Thursday, Jan 31

Today was a pretty nice day. A few of my friends from work took a long lunch and came and brought me yummy Thai food. The food was great, but the conversation was even better. I had forgotten how wonderful it is to sit and chat in a room full of wonderful women!

I have my gestational diabetes blood test tomorrow. It will be my first time venturing out in several days since I have been on bed rest. I am a little nervous about that. I am paranoid that sitting up for any length of time will put strain on my cervix. Wish me luck!

Wednesday, 30 Jan

Day 5 of Bed Rest: 24 Weeks today! I woke up with such a joyful spirit today. I think every day that goes by, I realize that bed rest is not nearly as bad as I feared, and I also feel more confident that everything is going to be just fine. I think at first, it was so hard because I had never even heard of incompetent cervix and when I read about it after my diagnosis I was terrified. But so many lovely women have shared their positive experiences with me since then, and I realize that this is not that uncommon and plenty of women go on to delivery healthy babies. I also have such a wonderful hubby who is quickly adapting to the new routine---by routine I mean that he is doing EVERYTHING--the cooking, cleaning and caring for our five year old when he gets home from work. How lucky am I???!

Tuesday, 29 Jan

Day 4 of bedrest. It wouldn `t be so bad if the electric company hadn `t decided to turn out my power for 6 hours for `routine maintenance. `. When I can work from my laptop and/or watch TV the days move surprisingly quickly. My baby girl kicks a lot. Almost all day and all night. It is so constant that I wonder if she even gets any sleep. I find it so reassuring though. I feel like it is her way of letting me know she `s there and doing great. Right now she is kicking high--near my belly button. Those are my favorite. When I feel her kicks way down low into my pelvis I get nervous and fear that the bed rest is not working. I want her, my placenta and everything else to move up and stay put!

Girl they kept me in the hospital for 6 long days, I went crazy. I cried every night that my bf left me, it was so sad and depressing. Marli was the only thing that kept me sane, I kept her with me every night because I was nursing and lonely. We have bonded well, I love her so much. If it wasn't for her I would have went physcho in there!!

heidichristine - Thursday, 29 May

CONGRATS ON YOUR LIL GIRL

niseybear - Wednesday, 28 May
LOVE IT!!! She was born on hubby and my anniversary. We celebrated 17 years this year! CONGRATS!

jamie - Wednesday, 28 May
You know why I miss it? Beause once there out you can no longer protect them, and they grow up sssssssoooooo fast. Because with every season that changes I am forced to pack away the cutest little clothes that keep getting bigger and bigger that remain the proof the my little baby is no longer my little baby. It is so bittersweet. You watch them grow and change and its beautiful but at the same time it is frightening. No more cuddles, late night bonding sessions, yummy baby smells, silly first smiles, cute first words. I hate the pains of pregnancy, but I miss what it represents, ssssssooooooo....I must have forgotten how bad it is because we want to do it all over again! Enjoy you new baby!!

 Sleeping Beauty!

cosita - Wednesday, 28 May
Carlos and I are doing well. He is getting so big, so fast. He eats like a champ and he is cooing, smiling, and laughing up a storm. How are the sleepless nights coming along? Although CJ isn't sleeping through the night he is sleeping for longer stretches which is good but not great...lol. Can't wait for him to sleep through the whole night.

danish-girl - Tuesday, 27 May
Thank you so much for that 'mail'. I will try everything I can to try and let go of my fears when I am laying/lying (hmm?) there in labor.

Unfortunately I know for a fact that my baby is huge but his head is average size so I guess it wont be much worse to get him out than it would be if he was smaller. (I heard the head is the hardest part?)

Its my brothers b-day on friday when the induce me...but as I told at some point - they induce very slowly here, it can take up to 5 days :-)

xxxx

niseybear - Tuesday, 27 May
Haven't heard from you in a bit. How are you?

mommyballs - Tuesday, 27 May
rest? i don't understand this word...lol
the only time i have to myself is the fifteen minutes i have just been online lol, and i really should be using it to sleep...lol, but it hasnt been that bad.

compared to when i had drew i feel fan-freakin-tastic lol! his head was so big they had to do the episiotomy, i was so sore for nearly 5 weeks...with alexis she just slid right out, no hassle and no cutting, the doctor said i barely even tore a bit! i was actually refusing pain medicine in the hospital i just didnt need it. i had some pain a couple days later as i am guessing i was feeling my hips sliding back into place, but for most of this week i have been feeling great. if i do too much i hae more bleeding, but i have already been doing situps and gone to the mall with the kids and walked around for a few hours.

but now i must sleep cuz i know if i dont soon one of them is gunna wake up! lol

bittybop - Monday, 26 May
The nursing is going better. At first it was so painful and I had that yeast infection, so I pumped for awhile. When I put him back on to nurse after that little break, it was much better. No pain and he latched on great. I am nursing and pumping still b/c I like doing both at different times and it has gotten much better.

I hope the doc says all is fine for your little one tomorrow and you get some poops outta her soon! Let me know how she is doing, take care!

danish-girl - Monday, 26 May
Hi hun!
My internet has been down - damn internet!

I went for my 41+3 at the hospital today and they are inducing me slowly on friday when I am officially 42 full weeks. She could barely strip my membranes as she almost couldn't get a finger in there...I guess that must mean I am only around 1cm dialated then..not sure?!

How's everything with your new gorgeous baby?

I wish it was over - I'm a bit scared of the pain I'm about to endure :-)

leeleemo - Sunday, 25 May
Thanks! Hope that you and your little girl are resting well. I will be posting pictures soon! Thanks for the well wishes, hope all is well with you :)

mommyballs - Sunday, 25 May
CONGRATS!!!!!!!! oi miss talking with you too, seems like i never have time to be on here anymore!

Things are going wellfor us. drew is adjusting well, he loves being a big brother, i have to keep an eye on him cuz he's a lil too helpful sometimes. Alexis is doing great, we have an appointment on tuesday for her two week check up...normally the doctor wouldnt see her until 1-2 months but she weighed the same at her first appt as when we left the hospital, so he wants to be sure shes gaining weight!

hope all is well with you and alexandria, i love that name by the way ^_^

bittybop - Saturday, 24 May
Glad you guys are doing well! I totally understand about the hospital...no peace or rest, which seems ironic considering it is a hospital! Has Alexandria taken to breastfeeding okay? Is your son excited to be a big brother? Well, take care and rest up (if you can, ha!)

dedra40 - Saturday, 24 May
I'm very happy and excited for you. It was like you were here one min, and literally the next you were gone. I was like "Ooop, we lost another one." lol Yeah, I am pretty sure I'll not be one of those with the postpartum blues, either. I don't care much for being preggo at all. Its not really my thing. I like to be able to look at the person I'm talking to. So I think I'll definately be able to identify. As for hanging in there, yeah, I am. But I'm telling you, this little guy better start doing something, otherwise he's gonna be forced out later next week. His terms or the doc's, doesn't matter to me. I'm just ready to meet him, and to get to sleep on my belly again.

leeleemo - Saturday, 24 May
Congratulations!! I hope you and the baby are doing well! What a beautiful name :)

cosita - Friday, 23 May
Aww I tried so hard to breastfeed but was so unsuccessful.

cosita - Friday, 23 May
Woo hoo the baby is finally here!!!! Congrats!

Posie - Friday, 23 May
That's fabulous! Painful but she finally came out right!!!
I had a night from hell... I lost my plug and tried to stay home as long as I could but the contractions were 2-3 min apart and hurt alot. We went in and I was still a 1 !!! And not effaced at all, after hours of painful contractions. I will probably have to go through most of today with them too. They aren't as close together but still painful. My mom's here and we'll probably go to the mall to walk a little. Now if my water breaks, that will be something. I almost thought it would about 2 min. ago. I went to sit down in our chair at the computer and it MOVED and I sat down on the ground, HARD! LOL. My dad came running in half asleep "Are you o.k." I just started laughing. No water! Take care of you and baby. I'll be there soon! :D

hoosiermommy - Friday, 23 May
just thought I'd check in on you and I see you've had the baby!!!! Yay!!! I'm so excited for you. Take care of yourself and that precious little girl, and write back when you can!

Congratulations! xoxo

bittybop - Friday, 23 May
yay!!!!!!! :)

Posie - Friday, 23 May
Don't know if you'll be online for a while (so jealous :D) but I'm finally having some symptoms. I'm in the process of losing my plug and having lots of painfulish contractions today. We'll see!!! Kisses for you and baby!!!
