My First Baby...On Her Way!

Hello, I guess I’ll tell you a little about my self...I’m 24 years old and expecting my first baby with my husband. I have been married for a little more than a year but have spent eight years prior to marriage with him! i am high risk due to diabetes, i was considered boarder line diabetic when i was 18 but now i currently have to use insulin. also at the age of 18 I was told i had pcos and i do not ovulate. do to the pcos it was a extra small chance that i would be able to conceive, by the way let me add that i hardly ever got my period do to unbalanced hormones...making it hard to get pregnant. well I gave up! what do you know 5 years later I’m expecting my blessing, i hank God every kick i feel!

I'm now a few days away from being 8 1/2 months! i am just now experiencing heart burn, once again morning sickness and shortness of breath. i see my ob/gyn once a week, starting this week. he has ordered NST ( non stress testing) once every other week due to the fact of one dizzy spell i had. i have gotten ultra sounds once every month and as of today gained only 12 lbs. i cant wait to see what we have created!

hey, I was taking a sneak preview at week 22 (I'm still in 21!) and read your message about fearing caesarian delivery! I work as a doctor....no-one has the right to force you to do anything you don't want to and it should always be your choice. I don't know enough about your diabetic control and baby size etc to comment from a medical point but ethically you make the decisions. My advice is to ask the doctor in question to give all the pros and cons of elective caesarian and use the info to make an informed choice. Don't be scared to ask him to clarify anything.....its an important decision and you need to know your facts. There's also possibly the option of inducing the labour on the 3rd giving you the chance at a vaginal delivery although the timing won't be exactly how nature intended and you'll prob require close monitoring. One thing though....I've assisted with several caesarians and its not as bad as I thought it would be.....women usually up on their feet the next day, less pelvic floor damage than delivering a large baby naturally, and whilst surgery has some risks for you (as does natural childbirth)nowadays its a very safe way for baby to be brought into the world. Wow...this message has become long....hope you don't mind me giving my 2 cents and hope whatever you decide it all goes well xxx

I was scheduled early because I was in the hospital end of week 31 with some ruptured cysts, and they didn't drain so little Triston was laying on them. Doc said if I made it to week 36 and his lungs were mature she would go ahead and do the c section as well as remove the cysts, and turns out a small part of my ovary. His lungs weren't mature at week 36 so we waited another week and he was ready to go. 3 weeks early and he was still 8 pounds 2 ounces!!

dr's cant make you do anything w/o a court order as far as I know. You need to research what is best and make your own decision.

Are you with a private practice? If there is no other doctor in that practice, then you need to find another doctor or practice that is covered by your insurance. You can call your insurance companies 800 # and they can tell you which doctors in your area are covered. You are never stuck with just one doctors opinion. There is always a way to see another doctor, and in your case, I'd suggest it. I hope this helps!

You should contact a midwife in your area and have them evaluate you. Doctors looks at birth like it is an emergency while a midwife looks at birth as a natural process. Most people can have a natural birth but your diabetes may complicate things.

I'm sure the prospect of giving birth to a big baby is scary but just remember - being big doesn't mean ready to be born.

Hi Sondra! I am also type 1 diabetic and pregnant with my third child. With my first child I had vaginal delivery at 40 weeks. With my second they were concerend that he was to big and induced me at 38 weeks. The ultrasound showed that he weighed 8 lbs. I had to have a emergency c-section because his heart rate dropped. He only weighed 6lbs 2 ounces. He was put in the NICU for a week because he was born to early. Make sure they don't make you go before 39 weeks.

hi sondra...i had a section with my 1st, i want a natural birth this time. i was (like you) very anti the csection, it was my worst nightmare and i was distraught...i went 12 days over my due date, they induced me, labour didnt progress, they gave mr the section. cant you just stay away from the docs and wait for labour to start naturally? have a look at some natural birthing sites. good luck with getting the birth you want. its your baby, your body. effing doctors!

i have had a couple different uterine surgerys in the last few years, there is a possibility of uterine rupture

He surely has a reason. My S-i-L had her baby yesterday and he was 8lbs 1 0z and she had gestational diabetes. They did induce her several days before her due date but after he wa born her blood sugar checked normal. Gestational diabetes may affect differently than regular diabetes. Hope everything works out. Surely he wouldn't do it unless it was neccessary

hi hun, if you have been told by the doctor tht you need a section, he is only saying it cos its what is safer for you and your baby, it can be dangerous giving birth to a big baby if your diabetic, for example, if you tear wen you r giving birth, being diabetic can make you bleed more, and take longer to stop, dont worry if you didnt need a section they wouldnt give you one, lots of people tht want them get turned down, as they dont need them, i hope this helps you a bit hun xx dont be affraid, i also need 1 xx

I felt like you when it came to a c-section. I had an emergency c-section and I cried like crazy and shook like a bad thing 'cause I was SSSOOOOO scared, I too would say I didn't want to be cut open. But you know, it wasn't bad at all! You don't feel a thing, just feels like you're getting a tummy massage! And I'm a wuss when it comes to that, the healing wasn't bad at all. I fell asleep in the O.R, so don't be too scared, you'll be alright!!!!! All the best.

you should go and get a biophyiscal profile done. i had it done when i was pregnant with my first to make sure everything looked good cuz of the diabetes.
