My First Baby...On Her Way!

Hello, I guess I’ll tell you a little about my self...I’m 24 years old and expecting my first baby with my husband. I have been married for a little more than a year but have spent eight years prior to marriage with him! i am high risk due to diabetes, i was considered boarder line diabetic when i was 18 but now i currently have to use insulin. also at the age of 18 I was told i had pcos and i do not ovulate. do to the pcos it was a extra small chance that i would be able to conceive, by the way let me add that i hardly ever got my period do to unbalanced hormones...making it hard to get pregnant. well I gave up! what do you know 5 years later I’m expecting my blessing, i hank God every kick i feel!

I'm now a few days away from being 8 1/2 months! i am just now experiencing heart burn, once again morning sickness and shortness of breath. i see my ob/gyn once a week, starting this week. he has ordered NST ( non stress testing) once every other week due to the fact of one dizzy spell i had. i have gotten ultra sounds once every month and as of today gained only 12 lbs. i cant wait to see what we have created!

I think at 34 weeks that's a little early ..how big is the baby>? I haven't herd of being induced that early. Good luck! Happy moms day

araya-sunshine - Sunday, 11 May
Babies usually turn for good around 28 weeks, give or take. Um... 34 weeks is too early to induce unless there is an emergancy and in that case they'll take your little one by c-section. My sister was induced early with both of her kids because of her specific health problems and they waited until 37 weeks. If your situation truely warrants being induced that early make sure the doc gives you the shots to speed up the babys lung development.

P.S. you can check out my page to see what my little ones looked like after birth..They were born at exactly 34 weeks weighing 5lbs 7oz and being 15 and 17 inches long. I have pics up of them at a week old in the nicu where they spent 17 days. They had no other complications other than just being born early. They didnt have the surfactants in their lungs to support their breathing, they were fed through tubes for 2 weeks because at 34 weeks their suck reflex is not strong enough and neither are the muscles in the face to suck their own food. Im not trying to scare you at all, just giving you the facts so you can make the best choice possible. The first 2 years of their life was a little harder than if they were born closer to their due date. They got sick alot easier, had respiratory issues, and digestion complications. Check into it as much as possible and, also, I might look into a second opinion if I were you :) Take care!!

hello mommy. my baby has been upside down since i was 28 weeks, i also heard that if the baby is breech they can flip the baby, which i heard can be painful, but it works. hope this helps!

austihaydian - Sunday, 11 May
Babies turn in their own time. Have them check to see what position the baby is in before inducing. By what I experienced having my twins at 34 weeks, I would urge you to push that date back to atleast 35 weeks. Both of my babies were in icu for 17 days. Not saying that's what would happen with you but I would DEFINITELY be asking the doc to just test you very prequently, do stress tests on the baby to make sure everything is fine and hold off on the induction as long as possible. Look up babies born at 34 weeks (there are alot on u-tube and such and google) and judge for yourself. One of the greatest things you can do as a mother is trust your own heart and instinct, regardless of what others say.. even if it is a doctor. Good luck to you and your little one!!

AlyEwing-Ball - Sunday, 11 May
hiya, my baby has been head down since before week 27 ... i think they say that kneeling on all fours helps make the baby move if you are concerede but i also believe they won't induce you if baby is still breech - i may be wrong though!!

young.mamma - Sunday, 11 May
hey there,my baby was breech from the beginning but she turned over just not to long ago, they say babies usually turn by the time they are 37 weeks but that doesnt mean they will in that week, just anytime up until then u can iether massage her/him and make baby turn or try excersizes, but all babies turn at different times so ull just have to wait and see what happens, either way ull be fine so dont worry

lisasmells - Sunday, 11 May
hey hun, well babies turn upside down different times, mine is upside down and im in week 33 tomorrow, diff times for diff babies, ull be ok x

savvysmom05 - Sunday, 11 May
Hey there. I am from week 30 and saw your message. I don't know much about being induced, but my midwife told me that the baby is usually in position around 35 weeks. I know somebody that had their baby girl at 35 weeks and she weighed a little over 5 lbs. I would ask your doctor to check her weight, but I am sure he/she wouldn't induce you if it was threatening to your baby. Well, I hope that helps a little. Congrats and take care.

personally I wouldnt go. I wouldnt really feel comfortable leaving the state. But to have to sit for that long would be killer on my back and well my bottom. If it was me I wouldnt. Me and hubby are planning to drive probably about 12 hours when the baby is like 2 months or so. But it is up to you. I am a first time mom too.

anr - Sunday, 4 May
i think its just really up to you...if you feel up for driving that far then go ahead! you might be doing a lot of stopping though! :) just make sure to call your doctor just to double check. im a little further along than you and my doctor said that this whole month it will be fine for me to travel...so there shouldnt be a problem for you!!! well besides being a little uncomfortable that is.

mary11 - Sunday, 4 May
I just came back from a trip this week that I only drove 2 1/2 hours and my feet and legs swelled up like you cant believe. I wouldn't recommend it if I were you. Good luck

Leah B. - Sunday, 4 May
I'm sure health-wise, if your pregnancy has gone well, it would probably be ok (but ask your doc)...however comfort-wise - there's NO way you could PAY me to be in a car that long at this point! :) 3 1/2 weeks ago I took a 2 hour car ride, sat through a 2 hour play & took a 2 hour car ride back & it was MISERABLE. And from what I've read on here, it seems I'm doing/feeling a lot better than a lot of other women @ this point. So it's up to you - but I wouldn't recommend it! :(

araya-sunshine - Sunday, 4 May
Go to see your doc the day before you leave for vacation. If your not effaced or dialated or showing any other signs of labor it should be just fine. You certainly dont want to risk it. It would suck to have your baby so far from home. So, just check with your doc and make sure you haven't progressed.

mommyof3goingon4 - Sunday, 4 May
i would c how u r feeling closer to that time. im almost 32 wks & there is no way i could do a Fl. trip, but its like an 18-20 hr trip 4 us. im debating a 9 hr trip to Indiana @ 35-36 wks & i don't think im going 2 b able 2 do it. oh well, i can always vacation later. after my last baby, we drove to CA. when the baby was 6 wks old & i had a C/S, but it went well, but damn, what a long drive! :) hope u feel well enough then, but be careful.

CCQ - Saturday, 3 May
I have had alot of back pain so I have to be able to get up and move or be able to lay back in my chair. If you feel good and your dr says it's safe then I would just make sure I could have frequent trips to the bathroom and be able to stand up now and then. Also, make sure you know where the hospital is located and maybe look up a dr there just in case. Best Wishes!

mommaHope - Saturday, 3 May
I just recently went to Fl. but it was only a 6 hour car ride for me, but it seemed much longer. You may be able to handle it better than I was able to. Sitting in the one position can give you extrememly uncomfortable back aches. If you are up for it, I recomend bringing a back pillow with you and getting out of the car to walk around and do some stretching every few hours.

rossis-babygirl - Saturday, 3 May
oh there wouldnt be ne problem lol aslong as your from the states incase soemthing were to happen your atleast in your own country just expedct the drive to take ALOT LONGER you will have to get out and stop and walk around alot cause sitting for that amount of time isnt good for the baby or yourself.i.e blood clots in the legs and so on. aswell you will have to pee alot more lol.other then that you shouldnt have a prob. at all. i know i was told not to FLY to europe becuase of how long i will be sitting for and cause in europe its different health care then here in canada where im at. ne ways plan it no reason to hold off. i drove nothing like that but 2 hours away a week before i was due and did TONS of walking i wasnt concerned about giving birth or ne thing ok yes i was but it didnt stop me. ne ways good luck

Rachel918 - Saturday, 3 May
A 10 min car ride bothers me. I have a big belly tho because i am so small to begin with. So the whole top of my belly is always numb and my ribs are killing me. I would def rethink a 21 hour car ride if i were you or if you do plan on going top every hour to pee and to walk around for a bit. I pee every 5 mins lol.. good luck to you depending on what you do and have a good vaca!

mommydearest1 - Saturday, 3 May
well if you are anything like me..then your back would be killing you!!! i went on a 12 hour trip when i was 29-30 weeks pregnant and i could not find a comfortable position to sit..and my legs got so swollen i couldnt even get down to walk! and i constantly felt like i needed to pee!!! unless you are traveling in a really comfortable vehicle then i wish you luck!

bethk - Saturday, 3 May
Just read ur profile on the high risk bit! I would double check with doctor too before going! Just incase you need to get to a hospital on the road! xx

bethk - Saturday, 3 May
You are going to be very tired on the road for that long. Can be done just wouldnt advise you to be driving as you are going to get SOOOOO uncomfortable! If you can be a passenger and move around like in the back seats with plenty of stops to get some moving around can't see why not? As long as everythings fine with the pregnancy. Good luck xxx

tiffyW - Tuesday, 29 April
Which ever side I am sleeping, that arm will get "tingly" and my fingers will go numb, not all the time.. But there have been a few memorable nights..

And I am not diabetic- Hope this helps!

Tiff

BrandiL - Tuesday, 29 April
I have the SAME problem with the numbing!!! I thought I was the only one!

Angiepangie - Tuesday, 15 April
Its pretty standard to get a fetal echocardiogram if you suffer from GD or just diabetes. There are a couple of problems that are more common in babies born to moms with diabetes...macrosomia (big baby) but also a rare condition called polycythemia, where the baby produces too many red blood cells, making the blood thicker, and therefore harder to pump. This may enlarge the heart, so diagnosis prior to birth is important, as it requires treatment right away after birth, to protect baby from thrombosis, stroke or heart attack. Try not to worry though...it is rare, and if you are good about keeping your blood sugar in check, all should be well. Hope this helps.
