My First Baby...On Her Way!

Hello, I guess I’ll tell you a little about my self...I’m 24 years old and expecting my first baby with my husband. I have been married for a little more than a year but have spent eight years prior to marriage with him! i am high risk due to diabetes, i was considered boarder line diabetic when i was 18 but now i currently have to use insulin. also at the age of 18 I was told i had pcos and i do not ovulate. do to the pcos it was a extra small chance that i would be able to conceive, by the way let me add that i hardly ever got my period do to unbalanced hormones...making it hard to get pregnant. well I gave up! what do you know 5 years later I’m expecting my blessing, i hank God every kick i feel!

I'm now a few days away from being 8 1/2 months! i am just now experiencing heart burn, once again morning sickness and shortness of breath. i see my ob/gyn once a week, starting this week. he has ordered NST ( non stress testing) once every other week due to the fact of one dizzy spell i had. i have gotten ultra sounds once every month and as of today gained only 12 lbs. i cant wait to see what we have created!

Oh, and my girlfriend dilated and then went back- apparently for her, it was dehydration. And it was a BEAR to get her to take liquids! I finally went out and bought the yummiest popsicles I could find and that's how we hydrated her!!! Needless to say, she's planning on getting me boxes of them before my due date - just to have on hand!

It depends on your insurance. If you have a PPO, all you have to do is find another OB GYN, and call up the office and make an appointment. Let the doc know at your appointment that you are seeing them as a back up doctor, and would like his/her opinion on a specific matter. He/she will probably have your records transferred over, and then can give you a concrete answer. So you will probably end up having at least 2 appointments with your back up doctor. Either way, it is YOUR body mami! Your birth plan is entirely up to you. Listen to your doctor, but ultimately YOU make the decisions. Blessings!

Can you ask the doctor to induce you rather than have a c-section?

mamatess - Tuesday, 22 July
Hey- I don't know anything about the diabetic/c-section connection, but I strongly support your decision. And if he won't give you real, medical reasoning, like "WHY don't you want me to push?" and then ask "Why ... "(the next thing) - if he can't give you a reason that you feel comfortable with, then you get yourself to a doctor who will. I would imagine if he said that it is a threat to the baby because of, oh, I don't know, but you get my drift, you could understand a c-section a little better. But I have heard that c-sections are just given out like candy - and you have the right to do what YOU want with your body and your child! As long as it is in the best medical interest for you both. So, girlfriend, dry those tears, get a little angry and march back into his office with about 20 "Why"s!!!

Just tell ur doctor that the only way ul have a c sec is if its an emergancy tell them u want 2 try natrually or by getting induced if they still say u have 2 ave a c sec just say that u wont turn up 4 it n ul go in when u start having contractions they would want 2 keep an eye on u so the chance of getting induced is great but they should listen 2 u there is several women who ve had babys having diabetes and had them naturally u should b given a chance n if it leads 2 a c sec at least uve done ur best 2 give naturally

maestraloca - Tuesday, 22 July
You can do whatever the smurf you want! Even in an emergency c-section scenario, the doctor needs to get your approval. Just because they get paid more for c-sections than a natural delivery, don't be scared into an unnecessary c-section! I would get a second opinion. Definitely.

haleyd226 - Tuesday, 22 July
Not that this will be much help, but it depends on how they are measuring and if it's the same person to check for dilation. Some might say you are dilated to a 1 while another might say a 2. The other thing that could happen is the baby readjusted.

mama2bearandnana - Tuesday, 22 July
I too have diabetes and we're doing an amnio on Monday and probably inducing next week sometime. This is my third and I was induced for my other 2 also, Unless you have a small frame or the baby is really huge I don't see why they can't try to induce before a scheduled c- section. Good Luck!!

adriennella - Tuesday, 22 July
I would just tell the other doctor what the first doctor said, and ask if he/ she would also schedule a C-section just because the baby is weighing 8 1/2 pounds.

adriennella - Tuesday, 22 July
I also have diabetes and talked to my doctor about whether or not she'd do a C-section on me. She said that if the baby is not in distress, she will not. Perhaps you should get a 2nd opinion from another doctor. A big baby doesn't seem like a reason for a scheduled early C-section to me. I have a small friend that just had a 10 pounder naturally. All the best to you.

kytti - Tuesday, 22 July
If the doctor thinks you will need a C section then that is what is going to be best for you and your baby. I actually heard a C section is WAY easier than labor... I almost want one but I can't have one unless it is necessary. You should talk to your doctor as far as why you are not dilated anymore, only he can tell you why that is.... any concerns you have you should ask your doctor, he will be the best form of advice while pregnant!

cosmomama - Tuesday, 22 July
hey hun. Wow, I don't know much about being diabetic and pregnant, or how big your baby should be, but I would most definitely get a second opinion at least. C-sections shouldn't be taken lightly, and I know I'm trying to avoid one at all costs if possible, which Im sure you are as well. I have no idea if this doc is right or not, but I would ask 2 or 3 docs to make sure...and if you do need one, well then it just has to be and you will be ok! And you'll have your lil one! good luck!

ITZmeASH - Thursday, 17 July
Good morning!
I just saw your post asking if anyone else was dilated.. at my appointment yesterday they said i was 50% effaced and 3cm dilated.. this waiting game is killing me!!!

sondra0031 - Thursday, 10 July
ok i need some advise on my page. i went to the dr yesterday and he has told me that if the baby get more then 8 1/2 lbs he is doing a c-section. he asked my husband if he wanted the baby to get stuck in my virgina. he said 8 1/2 lbs is a big baby for a dabetic to deliver. ok well on june 30 my baby weighted 6lbs and 11ozs. so from that date i had 4 weeks to go and the baby to gain only 2 lbs. wtf what can i say, do i have a say so. i'm not to pettie person... a c-section? why? who ever talks about hard hard it is to recover? i'm not scared to deliver natrual, but scared out my fuckin mind to have c-section? and wait he wants to induce me only 5 days b4 my due date. ha i'm going crazy... please help me

augustmommy2B - Wednesday, 2 July
Wow! That is quite a growth spurt. My last u/s was the same day as yours and my little guy was weighing 6 lbs. 2 oz. which they said was in the 95th percentile for size. My baby has been consistantly gaining about 1/2 lb. a week. Don't forget that there is always room for error with their estimation of the baby's size. Also, with diabetes during pregnancy comes big babies. I wouldn't worry to much. Just be happy you are having a healthy, beautiful baby girl. Lots of luck to you!!!!

made2bmom - Tuesday, 1 July
Hey there...it's my second day in week 34 and I just saw your questions. I've been leaking for almost 4 months now. It varies from woman to woman. My best friend never leaked before giving birth. As for the doctor...I go to a military hospital (my husband is in the army and we live on post) and they have measured my uterus and listened to the baby's heartbeat every visit. but have not done anything else for me at all to reassure me that all is well. I would've switched doctors a long time ago, but I probably wouldn't have been approved. That's the military for ya. Anyway, I hope everything is good for you! Not much longer now!
