My First Baby...On Her Way!

Hello, I guess I’ll tell you a little about my self...I’m 24 years old and expecting my first baby with my husband. I have been married for a little more than a year but have spent eight years prior to marriage with him! i am high risk due to diabetes, i was considered boarder line diabetic when i was 18 but now i currently have to use insulin. also at the age of 18 I was told i had pcos and i do not ovulate. do to the pcos it was a extra small chance that i would be able to conceive, by the way let me add that i hardly ever got my period do to unbalanced hormones...making it hard to get pregnant. well I gave up! what do you know 5 years later I’m expecting my blessing, i hank God every kick i feel!

I'm now a few days away from being 8 1/2 months! i am just now experiencing heart burn, once again morning sickness and shortness of breath. i see my ob/gyn once a week, starting this week. he has ordered NST ( non stress testing) once every other week due to the fact of one dizzy spell i had. i have gotten ultra sounds once every month and as of today gained only 12 lbs. i cant wait to see what we have created!

Just a few suggestions for your trip that helped me when I traveled recently (about 30 weeks and also a trip to Florida...only from Georgia 'though!) Bring a pillow to tuck behind your back...you may become uncomfortable! Also, bring some Preggie Drops or Lollipos (or anything else you can use to ease car sickness.) I don't know why, but now that I am preggo, I get sick pretty quickly riding in the car! Who knows...maybe it's hormonal, maybe it's my hubby's driving! LOL! Those were the two discomforts I experienced, but hopefully, you won't! Go have a good time! Oh, and bring your list of approved medication, just in case you need it! I got a cold and couldn't remember what I could take! Best of luck!

30 weeks SHOULDN'T be a problem, as long as you look after yourself properly. Usually any time after 36 weeks isn't a good idea, so you have lots of time.
I travelled over seas toa third world country in my 8th week, and I was fine.

I am also diabetic but am able to control my diabetes with a diet, I am really affraid to end up with insulin in the next couple of weeks, I can't picture my self giving myself shots like my mom does everyday. Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy!

ready4mygirl - Monday, 12 May
I read your comment. I am from week 7,but just had a baby 5 months ago. Most babies turn before week 32. It is rare that they dont turn by week 32, ecspecially for you. Since you are a diabetic your baby will probably turn a little sooner, because it is probably a little bigger than most babies. I would say if a baby does not turn before week 33, it probably isnt going to. Hope this helps and good luck :)

34 weeks, the baby should be ok after a little help from modern miracles. I wouldnt be afraid to get a second opinion, but at the same time, your doctor knows you and your current state, so I would assume he is making the right decision. Anyways, dont worry too much about the baby, my mom had diabetes and she was induced, and when that didnt work she had a csection. But, I turned out perfect, so there you are. Good luck, and God Bless!

abelsmamita - Monday, 12 May
Sondra- if you and baby are doing fine at 34 weeks there should be no reason to induce you. Only when the doc sees signs of it being necessary should he/she induce you, especially at 34 weeks. Thats REALLY early and probably the baby will spend a lot of time in the hospital. And if the baby is breech then they will do a c-section adn that means a lot more recovery time for you....If i were you I would get a second or even 3rd opinion if you can...You hired this doctor and are paying them---they work for you--even if you have medicade--the state is paying them----and whatever they say isn't the last word.....I've learned that with my pregnancy...Good Luck and truethfully all you can do is pray that God makes everything easy for you and your family....:)

I'm not diabetic, and have never been induced, but two of my precious little angels were born at around the 31 to 32 week mark, and one was footling breech. They had to receive special care in the neonatal ICU for a week or two, but then both began to breastfeed and grew well. Both are fine, healthy teenagers, now: my boy Charlie just turned 15 and is bigger than me, and Becki is 13 - she's still small for her age, but perfectly healthy. I wouldn't fret. Relax. Least you soon get to see your precious little one! He/she might not be able to suck properly at first - my two had to be tube fed for a few days, but they were earlier than 34 weeks. Otherwise, you'll be fine and so will they. Being induced, I've heard, makes the transition at birth a little more painful, but it's soon over. Keep smiling!

firstmaybaby - Monday, 12 May
baby usually doesn't turn with the head down til at least 36- 38 weeks along. if you are diabetic i would ask to be put on bed rest until your at least 36- 37 weeks along to ensure no major health risks to your baby.

BeeRieth - Monday, 12 May
Looking on the dr. side, Usually due to the lungs, drs. would perfer 35 weeks, but a baby is fully developed at 32 weeks time after that is maturing. I would follow your drs advice. Even if the baby is ICU its waiting for the lungs... its ok every child is different.. whats dangerous is because you have high case diabetes you would have a large baby and delivery complications that is why the doc is suggesting

CCQ - Monday, 12 May
I would hold my dr down and kiss her if she induced me right now!!! I am miserable and I would love for this to be over at any moment. :)

momof2oneonway! - Monday, 12 May
umm.. induced at 34 weeks! NO WAY! that is too early, I would think. I am NOT diabectic but I know where I live they do it about two weeks early, not 6! My best guess would be don't do it. Tell him you want to wait until about two weeks before. Hope this helps, but I am not a doctor, this is just my opinon. :) Apryl

pandaspenguin - Monday, 12 May
I'm a diabetic as well, and barring any serious complications, I'm allowed to go to 37 weeks, but if my sugars stay like they have been I think that will change.. and quickly :| I would definetely get a second opinion.. 34 weeks is still quite premature

mumofsix - Monday, 12 May
I would get a second opinion. 34 weeks sounds early to me unless there are life threatening reasons. I would push to 36 week if able.
As far as baby turning goes, Most babies will be head down by 34 weeks but not all, some do not turn until a bit later and some when you go into labor. My 4th baby turned at 36 weeks but the others were all earlier.
I hope all works out for you.

Begrateful - Monday, 12 May
I'd get a second opinion before agreeing to that

elizabeth25 - Monday, 12 May
mine wants to induce me at 36 weeks because of my diabetes. what type are you and how are your sugars?

beebop - Sunday, 11 May
do they want to induce you because you are diabetic or do they think there maybe complications if you go longer.... i have gestational diabetes and on insulin and my doc did not mention having to be induced early?

Stacey baby 3 - Sunday, 11 May
Just make sure they give you steriod shots for the babies lungs. I was induced at 31 1/2 weeks with my last one. She spent 2 weeks and 4 days in the hopsital. She could breathe on her own she just needed feeding help. At 34 weeks your baby should be fine, with no long term complications. Your doctor wouldn't suggest inducing you if it wasn't needed. Everything will work out great. Good Luck

tracylavene - Sunday, 11 May
My first baby was born at 35 weeks, naturally pre-mature. I would fight to at 37 weeks if I were you. Every day your baby can stay inside gives baby a better chance outside the womb. My 35 week baby had to be hospitalized 10 days because of he had immature lungs, he had jaundice, he was having trouble feeding and he couldn't regulate his body temp. You must also remember that it takes a premie years sometimes to catch up to where it should be health and growth wise. The baby next door to mine this time at the hospital was 32 weeks. She had been born April 19th and the mother said it would be at least the end of the week before baby went home - 1 month that mother had to see her little girl in the hospital. Try with all ya got to keep your little one in there as long as you safely can!

Aidens Mommee - Sunday, 11 May
i think 34 weeks is toooo early to be induced... What reason does the doc have to induce you that early? Are you already having complications with your diabetes? Because babies born that early are at increased risk of other complications... respiratory problems, bleeding to the brain, etc... I'm not a doctor.. i just think that they should try to have you wait until full term- 37 weeks if they are concerned about the size of the baby. Good luck sweety! and keep me posted!

Hey there. Happy Mommy's Day. All I know is that my sis in law's sister just had this done. She was preeclamsia and not following her diet and thing weren't going well. I want to say Baby was in the hospital for 2-3 weeks afterwards. If I were you and your BP was under control I'd get a 2nd opinion. I always thought you want the baby in there as long as possible-at least 36 or so weeks. I'm sure your OB knows what he's doing and of course I don't know the whole story. Everything is fine with Mom and Baby but it's just seemed very hard to have him in hospital, pumping instead of nursing, etc.

bethk - Sunday, 11 May
Usually if you have ur baby that early its via C-section! But they do say a Premature baby born through Vaginal Birth are a lot more stronger than a C-section baby! And its better for their lungs! Baby should definately be Head down by 34 weeks! Mines been down for 2 weeks now (since week 28/9) xx

mommy2S - Sunday, 11 May
My OB won't induce before 37 weeks.....I too gave GD and my baby is measuring large. How large is your baby....are your blood sugars being controlled....what complications is he so worried about taking the baby at 34 weeks?? Cause that could cause more for your baby....also boy's lungs mature slower than girls so if it's a boy I'd consider holding out a couple more weeks....even if it's a girl I'd try to get 2 more weeks...full term is considered 37 weeks....good luck!!

shazia - Sunday, 11 May
Not sure if this is of any help, but many celebrities that are "too posh to push" and schedule elective c-sections, actually schedule for 4 weeks prior to the due date b/c the baby is apparently fully developed and it saves them from gaining another 4-5lbs (as you gain most rapidly in the last 10 weeks). I'm sure everything will be fine at 34 weeks. I know lungs are almost fully developed in 31 weeks (my week). Good luck!!
