WEEK SEVEN.5
What is the biological purpose of morning sickness?

This is the first and last time I am getting pregnant.
I will produce my 2.1 children, hopefully, in one go, and my babies have siblings.
I can safely say that when I slept through forty hours recently I knew I was tired. Equally, throwing up water (a whole pint) after waiting to drink for hours is not normal!

I have been to the hospital for re-hydration and am sore, tired and dirty.
Therefore, what is the biological rational for morning sickness?
Multiple mothers are supposed to get it bad but this is making me very down, tearful and resentful at week three. I found out it was twins at week seven after an amazing eye-watering pain ......

Labour pains I am expecting; they are right at the end and by then, you are expecting the pain, the anguish the blood and gore.
However, at week 3, when you are trying to get your head around being a mother, then a mother of twins and then it feels your body is trying to reject them.....
It feels that the saying "mind over matter" really comes into its own.

I read that morning sickness is to stop you poisoning the baby. Hence the water. Your body does not know that mankind invented public health, found the cause for cholera; large drinks of water means infection. Great! Sipping water did not work either. Ice just about.....

Another rational is that pregnant women up and about during the day were likely to get killed due to hormonal changes making them, "smell different" to predators. So the body, handicaps the mother at this risky time. Hence the midnight munchies. I now eat at two am-three am and cannot sleep until midnight. Best not drive to work any more then.....

Any prehistoric reasoning aside, I am a twenty-first century, busy advocate without the ability to talk without vomiting. The thing is I would have been the first on the list for Thalidomide if I were around at the time.

This is when I count my blessings and go cold turkey with this thing, I mean, I can defeat anything can't I? And I will fight anything which hurts my babies-therefore I can fight morning sickness, even fighting my own body to keep them fed, watered and warm.

I guess that is the real rational for morning sickness, once you have a found out and your body is trying to get it out, it is how badly you want it and how hard you are willing to fight must be the real biological rational behind it.

WEEK NINE
I think they're boys!

Using the stars, their date of conception and the patterns of acne on my face, I think the twins are boys. I heard today that if you have boys, you only have to worry about their penises, with girls, you have to worry about everybody elses!

Despite that, I have bought two lots of little tiny dresses, even for the christening. Boys it is then....

Week Thirteen
Twin Envy?

This is really weird but I am cannot believe what people say to you when you say that you're expecting twins.

I am really blessed to be having twins on the way but enough with the scare stories! Another Twin mother states that she was constantly told that she would not cope by other singleton mothers....
She left the ante natal class.....but her mother and MIL both continued to frighten the bejesus out of her ante and post natally

Admittedly some are hers, but they were too funny not to add to.

The God One
I am not really religious (but am, even more so now) but the best one liner, I have heard is
"that God must really hate me because I prayed for twins? And what did you do, Sophf you hate kids?" WTF
(I just did not want children right now)

The Fat One
Me: It's Twins
Other: Twice the fat! You will never loose it.

The Death One
Twin Mum: It's Twins
Other: God that is risky, there is such a high chance of serious complications
Congratulations, though

The Buggy One:
Me: It's twins
Them: You'll never find a buggy, you will be trapped in the house.

The Breast Question
Other: Jesus, how will you feed them
Me: I have two breasts!
Other: Yeah! One is the spare.....

I'll update the comments

Her advice to me was
"Join a twin's group, unless you've done it,
shut it!"

Week 14: Baby2

As some of you are aware I had the morning sickness from hell. This did not endear me to the twins as the sickness was so unexpected and really nasty

This week I fell in love with them, sickness is now normal - a little throw up here and there.
(No longer being sick through my nose)

And my tummy is huge!

I awoke from my afternoon nap and wrote this:
(If you use it credit me please,
I will track you down
I write for a living also,
I need to work for the extra tummies)

Baby Squared

Twice rotund and ripe,

With twin stones, two pips, second-cored.

Plump with juicy dual expectancy,

With a pair at one birth.

Two centres, second swelling,

With taught skin stretched over replica rich, full belly.

Duplicate fears, repeated fun,

With one of two similar or identical buds.

Paired at birth and in life,

A pair, a couple,

With more love for the double.

My baby, squared.

Sophf Ball

Week Fifteen

And I have one of each......
How about that...perfect result!
Job done for my little family....

No Evil Twin!
Wow, life is truly amazing.

WEEK SIXTEEN

The Chubby Question?

I am so chubby, ripe and round.
But if I see another celeb tummy after six weeks, flat and perfect I'll scream!

A pregnancy is not a fashion statement.

Week Twenty- One

As you may know, being a lawyer, I am furious with the law relating to twins in the UK (watch this space)....

HEY SOPH WELCOME TO THE TWINNY CLUB LOL IM HAVIN MY 2ND SET OF TWINS, 1ST SET WERE FRATERNAL, THIS TIME ROUND WE ARE GOING FOR IDENTICAL BOYS. NOW IM NOT GONNA BULL, ITS HARD WORK BUT HEY WE ARE INDEPENDENT STRONG WOMAN, AND CAN DO ANYTHING. MY ADVICE TO ALL NEW TWIN MUMMIES IS.....HAVE A ROUTINE ASAP, DONT PICK BABIES UP IF SLEEPING, AND DONT BE AFRAID TO TELL VISITORS NOT TO CALL. REST IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU WILL NEED TO KEEP UP WITH YOUR BEAUTIFUL BABIES. ITS SO REWARDING THOUGH WHEN YOU GET THE SMILES AND GIGGLES AND THEY LOOK AT YOU SO ADORING, COZ AFTER ALL YOU ARE THE BEST THING THEY KNOW! ENJOY THE REST OF YOUR PREGNANCY, AND GOOD LUCK.

Thanks...that picture was taken when I really put some effort in trying to look decent for a pic to post. You notice it has a christmas tree in the background. It was in Decemeber. How are you doing double MOMMA? I really wanted twins. I figure two for 1. With how rough this pregnancy has been I couldn't imagine it being any worse but with my luck it would be! I am still nausious everyday. I have been going through severe depression recently- being so tired of the nausea, feeling very isolated from pepole since I am so sick I do not go anywhere really, the gloomy weather here in Washington, and just plain and simply tired of pregnancy! Erin Kelly is breech. The doctor is going to try to turn her through my stomach in 2 weeks. OUCH! I think I would rather the c section. Well you take care of yourself.

twinboys - Sunday, 27 Jan
Congrats on your twins! I too am having twin boys. Thanks for the recoomendation for my Pupps break out! It drives me absolutely insane. Sorry to hear you had such rough morning sickness. I had that up to week 14 it was a nightmare. I was so worried all the time that they would suffer because I couldnt get any nurtion in them but so thankful that they are growing great! Isn't it awesome to bond with them, especially after being so sick the first trimester. Glad to hear you are feelling well!

Hi Soph-fe,
Yeah we are mostly English in Australia - mind you this country is so multi-cultural that we have languages from all over spoken widely - Chinese, Greek, Italian are the big ones. Australian-English is rather different to UK English though. I think we have more American terms spoken these days due to the huge number of American TV shows and movies shown in this country. ( I speak fluent Japanese and some French as well as English ).So you think they're girls....I have had a number of people say that I must be carrying girls because I am showing a lot....We'll see tomorrow!

THING1AND2 - Tuesday, 22 Jan
and by the way i totally feel you on the everyone having nothing good to say. when we first found out it was twins my husbands mother drove him too tears with all her negativity.

THING1AND2 - Tuesday, 22 Jan

Glowing-Mama - Tuesday, 22 Jan
Congratulations!! How amazing to be having a boy and a girl - just perfect! You must be so thrilled! I find out this Thursday - will let you know what we're having!

Glowing-Mama - Thursday, 17 Jan
Hi Sophe-fe, I was reading your comments about the awful things that people say when you tell them you're expecting twins - the ones I get which I hate are: 'you're going to get SO HUGE!' and 'You will have SO many stretch marks!' and 'Wow, having two newborns is going to be SUCH HARD WORK!'.
I don't know why people think we want to hear such things! Then there are the lovely people, who clearly care about you and say that you're doubly blessed - which we are indeed!
Still waiting to see a photo of your bumps my dear!!! I find out the sex in less than a week now - everyday my opinion changes - if I go by what the old wives say then I must be having a boy and a girl - but thats impossible with identical twins!! Suppose I'll just have to wait!
Hope you're well.

nichola - Sunday, 13 Jan
Congrats on your pregnancy.

ssmith32s - Saturday, 12 Jan

obaby2 - Friday, 11 Jan
I am tring to breastfeed every 4 hours but my milk still isn't in so I give them a small amount of formula too after each feed. I think after today they will finally just be able to enough breast milk

Startingoverat37 - Friday, 11 Jan
I am dressed for the day even though it took me til 12:45 pm. I am not nausious at the moment so that is a good thing. I have no serious complaints. How are feeling with the growth of 2 babes? I would imagine you are getting pretty big rapidly. What a double blessing for you. Are you still working? Managing work and incubating babies?

obaby2 - Thursday, 10 Jan
thank you, no they aren't id, but they sure could pass for some. ;0)

Glowing-Mama - Thursday, 10 Jan
hey there Soph-fe, I checked out the jane powertwin and love it! Have had no luck so far finding someone who will ship it to Australia though - I have tried outlets in Spain, UK and USA! Where did you get yours from? I wonder if they are willing to ship to me in far off Oz? There are no shops which import these prams to Australia either....
If I can manage to get one, I think we'll go for the basic pram with no car seats - I don't think I'll be doing too much running around in the first 3 months anyway! I friend is giving me a Maclaren single pram and I have a baby harness too.
Anyway, thanks for telling me about that pram, we are so excited about finally finding something that we think will really suit our lifestyle, is good quality and has funky colours too!
Hope you're well.

Startingoverat37 - Thursday, 10 Jan
Hi how are things for you? How are you feeling? Erin is sleeping soundly at the moment! She can move around alot so I think its a nice break when she falls asleep. I am feeling blue and lonely today. I really need a friend near by. I am really tired out as usal with the anemia. I keep praying I will have a enjoyable last 10 weeks...that sounds soon but it seems like eternity@!!!! I want my body back! Heres a silly thing a friend sent me this morning that is going through hyperemesis (SEVERE MORNING SICKNESS .01% -.03% OF WOMEN GET IT- ME INCLUDED)

HOW TO KNOW IF WHETHER OR NOT YOU ARE READY TO HAVE A BABY....
1. MESS TEST
Smear peanut butter on the sofa and curtains. Now rub your hands in the wet flower bed and rub on the walls. Cover the stains with crayons. Place a fish stick behind the couch and leave it there all summer.

2. TOY TEST
Obtain a 55-gallon box of Legos. (If Legos are not available, you may substitute roofing tracks or broken bottles). Have a friend spread them all over the house. Put on a blindfold. Try to walk to the bathroom or kitchen. Do NOT scream (this could wake a child at night).

3. GROCERY STORE TEST
Borrow one or two small animals (goats are best) and take them with you as you shop at the grocery store. Always keep them in site and pay for anything they eat or damage.

4. DRESSING TEST
Obtain one large, unhappy, live octopus. Stuff into a small net bag making sure that all arms stay inside.

5. FEEDING TEST
Obtain a large plastic milk jug. Fill halfway with water. Suspend from the ceiling with a stout cord. Start the jug swinging. Try to insert spoonfuls of soggy cereal into the mouth of the jug while pretending to be an airplane. Now dump the contents of the jug on the floor.

6. NIGHT TEST
Prepare by obtaining a small cloth bag and fill it with 8 to 12 pounds of sand. Soak it thoroughly in water. At 8:00PM begin to waltz and hum with the bag until 9:00PM. Lay down you bag and set your alarm for 1o:00PM. Get up, pick your bag, and sing every song you have ever heard. Make up about a dozen more and sing these too until 4:00AM. Set alarm for 5:00AM. Get up and make breakfast. Keep this up for 5 years. Look cheerful.

7. PHYSICAL TEST (WOMEN)
Obtain a large bean-bag chair and attach it to the front of your clothes. Leave it there for 9 months. Now remove 10% of the beans.

8. PHYSICAL TEST (MEN)
Go to the nearest drug store. Set your wallet on the counter. Ask the clerk to help himself. Now proceed to the nearest food store. Go to the head office and arrange for your paycheck to be directly deposited to the store. Purchase a newspaper. Go home and read it quietly for the last time.

9. FINAL ASSIGNMENT
Find a couple who already have a small child. Lecture them on how they can improve their discipline, patience, tolerance, toilet training and child's table manners. Suggest many ways they can improve. Emphasize to them that they should never allow their children to run riot. Enjoy this experience. It will be the last time you will have all the answers

Glowing-Mama - Sunday, 6 Jan
I just had a look at the Jane Power pram you bought - it looks great. Do you know if you can put two new borns in that pram? It looks like the back seat reclines more than the front???
Cheers.

Glowing-Mama - Sunday, 6 Jan
I'm 125 pounds (57 kgs) today. I started out at 114 pounds (52 kgs). I haven't put much weight on in the last 2 weeks - which is reassuring for me because it seemed to be too much too soon!I can't hear fluid swishing around - I feel bloated a lot of the time, so maybe all that air is affecting my ability to swish!! I will check out the pram you bought too - might be available in Australia. So, you're eating raw fish - I love raw fish - used to live in Japan. But my doctor told me not to eat it. I have been craving all sorts of Japanese food though - eating plenty of tofu, seaweed and soy sauce! Do you know the sex of your babies??? Cheers.

Glowing-Mama - Saturday, 5 Jan
Hi Soph-fe,
Thank goodness your morning sickness has passed - that must have been terrible. You are going to be a wonderful mother - I can tell just by reading what you wrote on your page. I have no idea whether my twins are boys or girls - suppose I'll just have to wait for the 18 week scan. Hang in there - we are all in for the ride of our lives!! It is worth every little bit of discomfort to bring life into this world and so much joy into our lives (*^_^*)

Startingoverat37 - Monday, 31 Dec
Wow Twins! You have a exciting several months ahead of you. Are you getting any better with the sickness? I am at 28 weeks and really am a heck of a lot better than even a month ago but not over it all. I am serioously depressed right now with all the sickness and tiredness. I do not have a lot of physical complaints with the baby but emotionally and mentally its been tough. Are you working full time currently? I just can't imagine being sick and working. Well God Bless you and congrats again!

panda503 - Sunday, 30 Dec
thanks for the advice! i hope it works for me! congrats on the twins!

spoiledLiL***** - Friday, 28 Dec

dianna79 - Friday, 28 Dec
Hi.. I am also new to this town I live in, and right after I moved, I found out I was pregnant (this pregnancy was planned, just like my first was also, so I am very happy about the new arrival) But anyway, experiencing a change such as moving and getting adjusted and then becoming pregnant is a lot to take in at once, and I think that has really contributed to the depression.. its so hard to meet other moms. I feel as if I dont fit in here very well.. Im trying though, and exercising? Oh.. I dont have the energy!! So you are having twins?!? Congrats!!! What a surprise to you huh? Good luck to you in the future and thank you for writing to me. Keep in touch.
