A Bit About Me, and the the rest of my Family.........

Antony and I have been married for 16 years this year! We left it a while before starting our family so I was 28 when our first daughter Bethan was born on 24th October 1999. By some strange coincidence our second daughter Kate was also born in October - four years later on 14th October 2003 when I was 32.

It was very difficult to decide whether or not to have a 3rd baby, but somehow our family didn't seem complete with the two girls, so this year we thought we would give it a go. As I am now 36 we thought age would be against us, but unbelievably I fell pregnant straight away and guess what ...... our 3rd baby is also due in October! This time about 08th October.

I'm not sure if there are any other mum's out there with 3 children all having birthdays in the same month - I am sure it isn't a record or anything - but October is already a busy month with two birthdays to organise, so it will be interesting to see how things work out with 3 birthdays to fit in to one month!

Bethan and Kate are very excited about the prospect of having a new baby in the house and being 'big sisters'. I am going to try very hard to enjoy every minute of it this time as I am pretty sure this will be the final addition to our family!

UPDATE: 23rd April 2008, (16 weeks) My pregnancy seems to be progressing well, if the size of my waist line is anything to go by! I have somewhat belatedly discovered that there is a blog facility on this site, so I have moved my pregnancy diary there....a much better place for it as it probably isn't all that exciting for anyone else to read!

Thank you to everyone for visiting my page, and thanks especially to everyone that writes me a little message! I don't always get a lot of time on the computer, but I always write back (eventually!) :-) Best wishes to everyone Valerie x

Hi just a quick one, scan went well all looks good and we are having a BOY! It took me a while to get over the shock as I convinced myself we were having a girl, I feel quite scared but I am sure it will pass x

Hi Val,
We are doing pretty good. This baby seems to be a fairly good sleeper. Some nights are good, some not so good. Last night, she slept for almost 5 hours. I couldn't believe it. Our oldest didn't sleep well until she was 2, so I am hoping that Riley continues to be a good sleeper.
I am really having to keep my patience with Kaitlyn. She has complained some that I don't give her any attention. I do, it's just that she was used to having all of mommy's attention. Now she has to share, and it is hard since babies require so much time and attention. We are managing, though. She's also 5 going on fifteen - thinks that she knows a lot. I have to correct her a lot and remind her of how to act and be around her sister (how to hold her, not to pat her too hard, etc). She really doesn't like me correcting her. We are getting there, though. It will be strange in the fall when Kaitlyn goes to school. I will just have Riley at home. That is probably a good thing. I don't know how well I would do with both of them at home all the time. I hope your girls adjust well to their new sister when she comes. I'm sure you will do great with all of them.

Aww you are very sweet thank you!!
Well my appointment went well thanks!!
So they can only see one baby, which means this time I may think it will be a breeze ha!!
It was cute to see it move and what not for being only a 11wks and 1 d lol. But, its cute!! Disappointed there wasn't two at first, but I don't care anymore just happy to be giving live to a little person.
Yes, if I had another boy it would be cheaper, but I think ever girl wants a baby girl sometime. But I am good with anything I get.

Hi there, no I don't think it was the punch that caused it (laugh)although I do think I might be starting to have problems with my sugar levels and the punch did miss with that. My doctor told me I need to be eating 3 meals and 2-3 snacks a day. Sometimes I just don't feel hungry though and she did say when your sugar levels start dropping you don't feel hungry. I do feel better today though and I'm feeling more rested if thats even possible while your pregnant. Take care and don't stress to much about the neighbour, I will talk to you soon!! Kathy

That sounds like quite a weekend! I bet the girls just loved it! Party dresses, puppies and swimming...sounds like every little girls best day! We really didn't do too much. Mostly we got the house clean, since we had been neglecting it. We went to hear the symphony play outside and watch fireworks for our Memorial Day. I also let the girls wear their dresses and they had a great time, although my little man jumped quite a bit at the fireworks and canons that were going off, I couldnt' tell if he was enjoying it or scared out of his little mind.

We have not gotten any closer on names, in fact, we can't seem to agree on much at this point. My husband likes Zane and Atticus. I don't really like either too much but I think Emerson is ok. I am not sure what we are going to do about it. I have got the fabrics for his nursery picked out so that is something I suppose.

I recently was told of a family that had six children and they lost their house in a fire. It just so happened that they had some little girls that needed lots of pink clothes so I got rid of alot of stuff in the attic. As I mentioned before, my daughter is a clothes horse so they probably don't know what to do with the piles we gave them but I'd rather they have too much than too little. We threw in some dress up princess dresses just for good measure.

Everything else has been a little quiet. My littlest one is home sick today with a fever and a rash so I am going to go home as soon as I am done with my meetings this morning. My husband is sitting with her now but he has meetings this afternoon. I have been watching our silly poitical mess unfolding in the news. I am for Barack Obama and can't stand President Bush. I have disliked him immensely since he first decided to run for president. When he was first elected I remember saying, "I hope he doesn't do anything in four years that we can't undo in the four after.", not believing he would ever get a second term. Some people watch sports and I watch politics, it's actually what my undergraduate degree is in. How do you like Gordon?

Well, am off to my meetings. Hope you have a good day.

Hi Valerie! For sure our kids will keep us young! It worked for my parents having me so late in life! And in the 70s I think it was almost unheard of having a baby at 39!! I was born in Scotland (Edinburgh) and lived there till I was 3 and then we moved to Canada for my dad's work. And I actually met my husband through my old job in Canada! Long story short - I was in marketing/advertising and he's a graphic artist in Greece - the company he was working for wanted to launch a product in Canada. Since he spoke English and we needed to communicate about artwork specs, etc., he and I were the contacts. But, 6 months later, I realized the campaign had died and he was still calling and emailing me! We spent a year long distance like that and finally decided if we were going to make it work - someone had to move! It was easier for me since I have EU status and 5 years later - here I am! It's very hot at the moment - we are having a mini heat wave - temps are in the 30s and very humid!!! I don't know if this is a boy or girl yet - will find out June 17th! xox

Hello! I'm having a bad day I had to call my doctor on Fri because of swelling and headaches and I kept seeing white spots they had me come in for an appt today and I got put on partial bedrest! My blood pressure has been high for 2 weeks now and they told me if I get any severe headaches or start seeing the white spots again I need to go to the hospital. They scheduled me for a ultra sound next Mon to make sure the baby is growing and check the amonotic fluid. I have only gained 12 pounds thru my whole pregnancy and women with lupus often have small babies so they want to make sure my baby is still growing good. Now they are telling me that I will be lucky if I even make it to Aug 1 and I sure don't want another premature baby like my son was. Well I hope you are having a better day than me I will talk to you soon!!

LGK616 - Tuesday, 27 May
Congratulations to you too and thanks for your posting! You're also on my side of the world I notice! I'm in Greece - was born in the UK and raised in Canada however - I've been here for 5 years now. Luckily my doctor isn't too freaked out on the age thing - she has many patients who are 35 and over - it is a common age to have kids apparently! I don't feel old myself - nor do I look 37 going on 38! My mother had me when she was 39 and she is 76 today - she said I kept her young! So my little one will do the same and I've tuned out the "Oh wow - you'll be 38 - aren't you scared that something will grow wrong?" xox

Hi Val, Busy has been an understatement but this weekend I got the bedrooms done ready to move the 2 kids into 1 room and get the other room ready for baby. So I have been on my feet for 1 hour then resting for 1 hour as my ankles have been swelling up so I am doing it nice and slow. All I can remember from my second pregnancy was me in and out of hospital with swollen feet and high blood pressure, so i am so taking it easy from now on.

I wonder if you can help me with a decision I have to make. In the summer holidays I make a lot of money over 6 weeks. It is about £1000. I know I am going to be struggling to do anything with the kids as I am already big and feeling the swelling. If I go onto maternity allowance it is £100 per week and I will be taking a big drop, what would you advise to do?

I am so looking forward to the scan on Thursday and I am sure the kids are looking forward to it too, but again I am not counting down and trying to take a day at a time as I always get stressed before we go on holiday. I have a few kids over this week but the parents are aware that I am so not up to much and I am taking it easy. I can't wait to find out what we are having, I have a strong feeling it is another girl, but we will see.

Well my DH surprised me by saying he is coming up for the second week as he knew how stressed I was about going it alone for 2 weeks and he made me smile and cry at the same time lol. I will be taking the lap top with me for support from my friends and so I do not feel so alone.

I am so glad that you feel more settled about having another girl, I think I will be joining you. My two girls have told everyone we are having a girl lol the thought of a boy I think scares them lol.

We will sort out a date to meet in Nottingham that would be lovely and look forward to settling it out when I get back from holiday.

I will let you know how I get on with my scan, and also do me a favor please and measure your waist, I did mine today and it was 49 inches, I am quite scared I am carrying a lot of water, I will get it checked out when I go for the scan.

Have a good week and look forward to chatting with you soon, Kat x

Thanks for the advice about baby movements. I'm starting to feel little tappy taps from time to time.. they still disappear before I can believe they are my BABY, but the knocks are getting louder and louder.

Yeah, in Canada we have public healthcare too. Everyone at home gets pretty good health care (could be better)

Here in the states it feels like you get what you pay for and if you can't pay... look out... ouch

My first attempt at a doctors appointment was at a clinic in a dodgier part of town. Those poor people. Waiting room the size of my bedroom, no air conditioning and not enough seats for everyone to sit. There was people standing and coughing and begging to be seen... I didn't end up seeing a doctor that day due to delay in insurance enrollment.

We moved here for my husband's job. He got a promotion with the New York office and it was too good of a job opportunity to pass down. But it was hard, hard to move!

I have no living family in the UK, but have some wonderful friends in Manchester and Yorkshire. I've been 2 times and have to say I would gladly settle down in either Canada or UK! I find the sense of humour very similar to Canadians in UK. People "take the piss" out of others in an affectionate way.

Hope your weekend was good. It's memorial day here, so we've got one more day off "as a family" before Jeff heads back to the grind.

thanks again for pep talk and advice

Pam

Yes, I don't know what is with us and december, but it seems to be pretty popular!!

Oh, I am feeling good, I haven't had morning sickness with my twins, and now!! So I don't know if that makes me lucky or not, but I don't know if its twins yet, we will find out on Wednesday with our ultra sound!!
With my boys I did not find out until 19 weeks, but I know I showed fast with the boys, and I know I show fast now, at 10 weeks I get asked are you sure its not twins again. from before I was pregnant to now around my tummy has gained about 5-6 inches, and to me that is alot. But oh well!!
What about you? how are you feeling? I want a girl this time, but if its a boy it will be okay too! As long as its healthy.

kathy24 - Sunday, 25 May
Hi Val, I had a great baby shower, it was on my husbands side of the family and I got alot of great stuff. It is like a party we had some fruit trays and a cake and some punch and alot of nice gifts. I had no baby stuff at all so this is going to help out so much. My mom and sister is giving me a shower for my side of the family the end of June so hopefully I will get even more great stuff. I can't belive how much baby things have changed in over 16 years since Matt (my son) was born. My husband got the babys room painted so we are going to go shopping now for some baby furniture and hopefully get the babys room done. I'm 27 weeks pregnant today so I have around 10 weeks left before my baby is here, I can't belive how fast time is going. My husband is so excited and he loves going to the doctors appt with me he doesn't usually miss them. Well have a great weekend and I will talk to you soon!

Congrats on your little girl too... I know how it feels when you want one gender over the other.... But sisterly bonds are the best bonds ever... Yep I'm very excited to buy to pink... This girl is only going to have that color on for months...LOL.... and a bow always.. Let's hope the rest of this pregnancy flys by with the summer coming... I'll talk to you soon... Love, Sherry

RoosterMOm - Saturday, 24 May
Valerie,
That's so exciting that you are having another girl. And I loved how your husband reacted. My husband was excited to have another girl as well. He's so good with our oldest. He makes a great dad for girls. Sounds like yours is the same.
I can understand your disappointment. I had a little bit of the same feeling, but then it passed. I thought about how we already had girl stuff and that I already knew about being a mom to a girl.
I am tired a good bit of the time from getting up at night with the baby. Breastfeeding is good for the baby, but sure can be tough on moms. I am looking forward to when I can pump a little and have my husband feed her with a bottle every once in awhile. I think we can do that in about another week or so. I have had help, though. My mom has been here, and next week my mother-in-law will be coming for a few days.
Take care,
Jennifer

Hi,
I have twin boys who were born on the 1st of december, well my due date was the 15th of december, but since its twins you don't go the full 40 weeks, so I delivered them on the 1st of december. So I am now pregnant again, due december 18th, so I too will know how busy having 3 or 4 kids birthdays are in one month, and the month of christmas of all months lol.

shelm2 - Friday, 23 May
Hello there, look at your litte pumpkin!!! She is precious! I'm glad all her guts look as they should! I still haven't had that scan yet and am a bit nervous. I never cared with my other two, I just really trusted my body to do what was right but now I have to admit I am really looking forward to them telling me that everything looks great. Maybe it is because I am older now and have seen more of what's possible, not sure.

I am having a terrible time with names! I don't know what to do, really. Ava came so easy to us and we had to work quite a bit harder to come up with Ella, but this time I think we may have come to an impass. Josh, my husband, likes Zane and Atticus, I think Emerson is ok but am not completely sold on it. What are you thinking for girls? I was ready to fight for Rose when I thought it was going to be a girl. I just love that name. Did you have any boys names you were especially fond of?

As far as getting back to you quickly, when I have slow days here at work I am usually just sitting at my desk killing time so I check this site a couple of times a day.

I just found a girl here at work that is 15 weeks pregnant. I had no idea she just saw me in the bathroom and told me. My gut is sticking way out and she doesn't look any different but this is my third and this is her first. Anyway, I know you have a co-worker there due close to you, it's just nice to have someone who understands. I feel for her though because she is really tired and sick...poor thing.

Well, we have a three day weekend as well and I am excited about it. Since I work for a bank I get eleven holidays a year! It is really nice. Well you take care of yourself and have a good weekend! I wish I could give you the best of my girl stuff. I have to have a massive garage sale now.

debora - Friday, 23 May
Oh, yeah...I am fine on the age thing.

I could have gotten off track but now I am okay.

Too...bummer on the ultrasound...she said the dates and the size did not cause need for doing such...boo....

Anyway, I am working at getting some contracts for my business....have to raise money for baby!

Debora :-)

itskristen - Friday, 23 May
Hello!

Are you able to get a 3D or 4D scan in the UK? I haven't had any at the clinic I go to, but my friend gets to have one EVERY time she has a scan! So she has already seen her son's face! I'm so jealous. The only time I was able to see her face was when we were getting our sonogram and for about 2 seconds I could see her from "skin level" on her face--I think they were checking for a cleft lip--but I felt so lucky to just have that glimpse, although I didn't know the sex yet and I remember thinking, "Oh that looks like a boy." I was wrong! Where do you live in the UK? My husband is from Birmingham.

surprisedwith2boys - Friday, 23 May
It's a girl.... Found out yesterday and she's 12oz... We are so excited... How was your scan?? Keep me posted...
Love,
Sherry
