A Bit About Me, and the the rest of my Family.........

Antony and I have been married for 16 years this year! We left it a while before starting our family so I was 28 when our first daughter Bethan was born on 24th October 1999. By some strange coincidence our second daughter Kate was also born in October - four years later on 14th October 2003 when I was 32.

It was very difficult to decide whether or not to have a 3rd baby, but somehow our family didn't seem complete with the two girls, so this year we thought we would give it a go. As I am now 36 we thought age would be against us, but unbelievably I fell pregnant straight away and guess what ...... our 3rd baby is also due in October! This time about 08th October.

I'm not sure if there are any other mum's out there with 3 children all having birthdays in the same month - I am sure it isn't a record or anything - but October is already a busy month with two birthdays to organise, so it will be interesting to see how things work out with 3 birthdays to fit in to one month!

Bethan and Kate are very excited about the prospect of having a new baby in the house and being 'big sisters'. I am going to try very hard to enjoy every minute of it this time as I am pretty sure this will be the final addition to our family!

UPDATE: 23rd April 2008, (16 weeks) My pregnancy seems to be progressing well, if the size of my waist line is anything to go by! I have somewhat belatedly discovered that there is a blog facility on this site, so I have moved my pregnancy diary there....a much better place for it as it probably isn't all that exciting for anyone else to read!

Thank you to everyone for visiting my page, and thanks especially to everyone that writes me a little message! I don't always get a lot of time on the computer, but I always write back (eventually!) :-) Best wishes to everyone Valerie x

Hi Val
Funny when I write all that I have done in last few weeks I have sounded like superwoman but believe me I felt it!!All that moving and travelling, but like anything we women do, when its got to be done we just DO IT!!! multi taskers..good practice for when bub comes!!! Am also starting to feel bigger...the first time in my pregnancy..am sure I am bigger than my first sons....
As for your sister in laws bellydance teacher, maybe give her my website, she might like to purchase my world first book on the subject to give her some insights..( www.bellydanceforbirth.com) in the future I will develop an antenatal weekend workshop for those wanting to teach my method but I think the criteria will be that they already have a background in childbirth (midwife..doula etc) bec you really do need an understanding of the birth process to "get it" fully...

oh and thanks re sleep..i am sleeping a bit better ..the more I settle..generally v tired by 8 at night..how are u going anyway???
m xx

I'm glad your husband is doing good then yes your right men would never make it through a pregnancy! Could you imagine them delivering a baby that would be quite a site! I have been feeling prttty good I had a scare on Tues and I was really down most of the day, my doctor ordered a special ultra sound that takes 40 min and during this 40 min the baby is suppose to move its hands & arms twice, sallow fluid twice and breathe on its own twice, well my baby did everything except breathe on its own so the ultra sound tech had to get the doctor and of course she was in surgery so I had to go home and wait for the doctor to call me and of course it was late in the afternoon when she finally called me but she said that she thinks he is still a little on the small side and thats probally why but they are making me have the ultra sounds weekly now. Of course I love seeing my little man every week but I'm scarred thinking that there might be something wrong with him now. He weighs 3# 11 oz so I don't know if thats good or not considering I only have about 6 weeks left. I didn't want a big baby but I don't want such a small baby that he could have breathing problems. At least I'm keeping my sugar levels down and I'm trying to eat right! Bon Jovi was in concert here about 5 months ago we didn't go to it but now after hearing what you said I almost wished we did go. Well I better go I have a busy afternoon, how are you feeling? Take care and talk soon!

shelm2 - Thursday, 26 June
Valerie! Hello! How are you? I haven't heard from you last week and I always look forward to my weekly emails from you. I hope everything is ok. I have been in Denver this week for work and have missed all the good chat on the site. Did I miss anything? I also met up with a friend when I was there and had a delicious glass of wine! Although with the altitude and the wine it seemed to get a bit hairy for a minute but passed quickly.

How are your girlies? How's your family? Only 15 weeks left! So hard to believe, I still haven't done a thing to prepare. What are we even supposed to be doing right now anyway? You would think I would know this since this is my third but....

mummydawni - Thursday, 26 June
Hiya Val
How are you all doing? We are fine, had a midwife appt today and got a new one now and she is lovely, not like the scary one I had before lol. Blood tests next time though which I hate having done but never mind. Pickle is back to back with me so she couldn't get his heart properly only thru the cord but she said he is fine which is all good. Possible urine infection which is why I have the back pain so got to wait for test results now. Oh what fun!!

Nursery is done and it looks soooooo amazing I want to sleep in there myself lol.

Hope everything going ok?

Dawn x

shelnMatt - Tuesday, 24 June
Hey there! Yes I was very sick as well until 16 weeks. It was horrible. I felt nauseous all the time and hard to keep anything down. My poor boys had to endure me pulling the car over more often than not! 2nd trimester has been very good to me so far (knock on wood!) I don't want to jinx it!!
I am still working at the local hospital and plan to work until the 3rd of October.
Do you get ever get commments about having another child at the age you are at? For the most part people have been pretty good but I have received them. Gotta say it bugs me. More and more people are waiting and because of my field of work I see so many women in our age range that have perfectly healthy pregnancies. Anyway enough of that rant! :)
Have a great day!

Hi Val

Move was exhausting and took more out of me than I suspected..but all good now...I was having trouble deep sleeping, I think unsettled, new house, noises, different smell in air etc etc!! and I have just been away in Melbourne (over 1500 km drive from here) but I flew! to take bellydance for birth classes..was great and sold some books to book shops and workshop girls...home now to settle and relax..am feeling lots of movement and glad to be home...there was a girl in my class who is pregnant with no. 4...she had retained placenta with no. 2 and NOT with no. 1 and 3....so interesting huh??? xx

wilsonwilson - Monday, 23 June
Hi Val, I wrote you a long letter and my computer crashed that is just so frustrating. All is well here I was in hospital on Saturday due to braxton hicks but it is too early for that turns out I have an infection and I need to take antibiotics which I am not too happy about but it has to be done.

I am so excited about the second half of Desperate Housewives, I can't wait. Who is your favorite character? I am not sure I have one as they all have their own qualities.

I am sorry to hear about you in hospital with your knee fluid behind the knee is not funny especially if it gets infected, I hope your knee is a lot better soon.

I love twycross zoo and always take the kids there we are on first name terms and they are on my Christmas card list lol. I hope you get to go there soon, it is lovely in the summer and have a picnic on the grass. I am sure you will get there another time.

WE HAVE A NAME woo hoo we have decided on Joseph, little Joey when he is born and Joe when he is bigger and Joseph Wilson when he is a bit naughty lol. It has seem to have grown on us, so Joseph I think he will be.

I had a really bad week with work last week and I am hoping for a better one this week and a bit more relaxing. I went to the doctors with pain and they thought it was grumbling appendix but I think it was this infection then I got back and didn't have enough time to do tea for the kids I was looking after and felt really bad but the parents were so understanding which was nice but I felt a bit bad, but what could I do? I am so hoping for a better week. How has your week gone? better than last week?

I do feel brave putting those belly pictures on I have to say it is something I wouldn't normally do but i wanted people who have the stretch marks to show how normal it is and that we are not all like a barbie doll and have a flat tummy within a second of birth! It is natural and great but they look horrid lol. Oh did I tell you I had a lady tell me how puffy I looked and that my face had swollen and I looked ready to drop this week, I was so good not to get upset about it but my goodness I have to say I handled it pretty well. Some people are so insensitive. I too have been having people go wow your huge and it really is getting to me. I hope it is not going to be a hot summer this year as I will suffer big time. How are you coping with pregnancy? I hope you are well and love to hear from you soon, *hugs* Kat xxxx

RoosterMom - Saturday, 21 June
You sound so busy! I hope that you are getting the rest that you need. I have had to step back on what I try to do. I am one of those kind of people who thinks that a lot of things need to be done, but I've learned that some things can wait. It;s difficult for me to do that, though.
Riley has started smiling! It is wonderful. She's more alert and getting more interactive, which is fun. She has gained weight quite well, too. She's now over 9 pounds. I cannot believe how fast this is going. I've discovered that she likes to be carried in a baby sling at times. This seems to calm her down when she's fussy. She also likes pacifiers.
Like you, we will be taking a family holiday in August. We are going to go to the mountains. It will be a nice family time. We are also going to sprinkle my sister-in-law's ashes in the mountains. She died last October and this was what she wanted done with her remains, so we are doing it. I'm glad that we can honor her request.
The rest of us are doing well. My husband now gets to work from home on Fridays, so I see him even more!
Enjoy your weekend. I hope Bethan has a good trip on Saturday.
Jennifer

shocked - Saturday, 21 June
Well, I guess I'm replying to everyone at this rate about once a week!

The short, cross-country trip went just fine. The baptism was beautiful and we enjoyed the short time with my brother and his family.

I can't believe how time seems to be flying - I'm starting to get panicky at the thoughts of taking care of a newborn in less than 15 weeks!!!! Of course, I've done absolutely nothing to get ready for the little man either. Hopefully it's just because this is not my first time and I realize how truly little you really NEED to take care of a newborn, some diapers, pair of boobs and a carseat/stroller - oh yeah, and some clothes!

Hilton Head Island is about a 5 hour drive - it's really very easy. Although I've never done it 7 months pregnant, so the jury is out on that one! Your trip sounds beautiful - I've heard of Cornwall but I've never seen any pictures. I'll have to google it!

The baby is really not a huge kicker. I feel him moving around a lot at different times of the day but I've got a feeling he is still head up and pointing backwards because the kicking is rarely felt on the outside of my body. If I do feel it with my hands, it's very low. He's never woken me up at night - I hope that's a good sign!!! However, he seems to know right when I wake up because I'll usually feel him pretty strongly then.

How has your week been?

LGK616 - Friday, 20 June
I have some mental plans - but I am not really sure. Right now the room is painted a deep mustard yellow and I LOVE the colour but I've read and heard that yellow is not a good colour for a baby's room - apparently they cry more. I don't know how much truth there is to that but this is just what I've heard.

If I do decide to paint, I would like to go with light green and lilac colors and the furniture I think I would like to be in white. No real theme to be honest - just a cute, calm room for her! Might be so calm I will want to sleep in there!!

I have her name already - although not a hit with the Greek side of the family because 1) it's not Greek and 2) in Greek Orthodox, she won't be named after a Saint. WHATEVER...she's our child and we both like the name. She will be named Isabella Katerina - after my grandmother and mother. If we were having a boy - we would have named him after my hubby's father as is Greek tradition (with my father's name as a 2nd name) and I accept that.

We are in the middle of our 2nd heat wave here and this week has been a little bit unbearable for me - I feel sorry for women who are 8 or 9 months right now!!! But we will get to the beach on Sunday to cool down. My a/c is my best friend right now to be honest!!

How about you? Names? Nursery ideas?

So have a lovely weekend!!! xox

Oh I'm sorry your husband didn't have a very good fathers day! At least he is ok and nothing real serious!! Thats nice that your going to be aunt I bet your girls are excited about there new cousin also! I'm feeling much better I had to go back this morning and see the dietician and I lost 3 pounds, she said I need to increase my snacks some because they don't want me loosing weight while I'm pregnant! But other than that my sugar levels are looking good! Yay! I'm so excited about my baby shower its only in 2 weeks I still need so much stuff so I'm hoping its a good turn out! The time is flying by so fast my little man is going to be here in no time at all! Have a good day and take care!!! Kathy

mplsmama - Wednesday, 18 June
Hi there! Sorry to hear Father's Day didn't go exactly as planned, but sounds like you all made the best of it! I hope your husband's knee feels better soon. I had a rollerblading accident about 10 yrs ago, so I can relate to bursitis in the knee, as I had a bout of that too after the accident. It isn't pleasant.
I'm feeling a little better each day. The past few days have been absolutely gorgeous here, so we've taken long walks w/ Maisie. Probably walked close to a mile each day. I figure it's good to be active, as long as I don't overdo it.
Maisie is doing well too. She scared us a bit w/ projectile vomiting all over Dan after her bath last night. I had just fed her before so I think it was just a bit too much stimulation. She woke at 1 am to feed, then didn't wake again until 6:30! I was expecting her to feed at 4:30 am. Dan did the 1 am feeding by bottle, too, so I finally feel rested today! Yay! :)
Interesting that you don't get too many bad storms in the UK... I wonder why not? We live in the midwest, so we get tornado threats often in the summer.
How are you feeling w/ the pregnancy? Are your girls excited to have another sibling? We're still debating on whether or not we want to have a 2nd child. My husband is a teacher so it really worked well to have a baby in the summer, since he gets summers off. We'd kind of like to time it so that any future children would be born around the same time... so that means trying to get pg in Sept. I'm definitely not ready for that yet this Sept! So we'll see if we want to try again in about a year. Who knows., Sometimes we think one is all we need. We'll see where life takes us!
Off to play w/ Maisie! Talk to you later!

shelm2 - Wednesday, 18 June
Hello Valerie!

Hope all is well with you! I have been a bit busy here with work. Not very often, but sometimes, I actually have to focus. Most of the time I am bored to tears. I agree that time is moving a bit quickly. I can¡¦t believe that we are at 23/24 week mark! I haven¡¦t done anything for the baby really and my husband and I still can¡¦t figure out a name. Oh well, I work best under a deadline ƒº.

Wow! Four years at the same school already! Is she excited or nervous? Ava is so excited for school but she is really enjoying playing outside with her neighbors till late on these summer nights. We have 7 kids in the neighborhood and when they get together¡Kwell who knows what they are up to. All I know for sure is that Ava is developing mentally at an uncomfortably rapid pace. The other day we were at a family party for Father¡¦s Day and I went into the house and saw Ava and this other little boy (not related to her but a couple years older) jump behind the couch. As they were the only ones in there I told her to come downstairs with me. I asked her what they were doing and she told me they were playing boyfriend/girlfriend. I tried not to freak out and tried to calmly ask her what that meant. She said it meant that they were playing house. I just about killed the little boy on the spot but managed to maintain. But now I do not want her around little boys by herself, those heathens! I am sure that my angel had nothing to do with it and was just taken advantage of by a sinister and ill intentioned young fellow. Yeah right! I heard her later asking him if he wanted to play boyfriend/girlfriend outside with us ƒ¼.

Our scan went well, thanks for asking! Little man was in there swimming away. The tech said that he was ¡§text book¡¨ which made me relax a little. She also said that he was ¡§amazingly strong for 22 weeks¡¨. I said, ¡§Tell me about it!¡¨ So the good news is he has all of his parts and is doing well. The potential ¡¥not great¡¦ news is that he is breech and I have had to have my babies turned in my stomach in the past. It is not awful, but not a whole lot of fun either. I have had two scans and they have both showed him in the same position Ava was when she had to be turned. Two doctors stood on either side of my stomach and used their fingers to manually roll her around. It was a whole lot of pressure and I had to have an epidural. But, alas, there are worse things that can happen so I will not complain.

Gas here is $4.09 a gallon. I tried to do the conversion but I keep coming up with .55p/L, that just can¡¦t be right, can it?

Your story about how you met your husband is funny as well! Who knew we were so frisky at such a young age. It is weird because my sister¡¦s story is the same as mine. She was kicked out, moved in with her then boyfriend and has now been married for 11 years! You might think after my sister did that she would try not to do it with me but here we are! My sister and I both have wonderful husbands! In fact, I keep having these stupid nightmares. Since I have been pregnant I dream super vivid dreams and about once a week they turn into rather awful nightmares. Last night I was screaming in my sleep and my husband, Josh, rolled over and put him arms around me to wake me up and told me not to worry that these dreams just meant that I was a very creative person and he loved that about me. At that moment I went from terrified to flattered and happy. What a great guy! Anthony sounds quite sweet as well as he seems quite excited about his brood of little ladies! I just love it when grown men are so proud and adoring of their little girls!

I am so sorry about Father¡¦s Day!!! That sounds like no fun at all! I am glad you got a nice dinner in though. We spent the morning at my parents house and the afternoon at his parents house. There was a bit of drama at his parents house, not to mention Ava¡¦s new game, but we got it worked out. His family is a bit more complicated than mine but he handles it well. I did find it interesting though, I was at this party and there was a side of someone¡¦s family that I hardly ever see and they are soooo different from me. If you can imagine what a backwoods, sorta hayseed stereotype would be like it was them. They don¡¦t speak proper English, they are very rough around the edges with the cursing and smoking around children and pregnant ladies. One of them told me I was huge! They were getting wasted on cheap beer and I thought to myself, ¡§even though we are very different I should really find something to appreciate about them.¡¨ I am embarrassed to say that I didn¡¦t do a very good job.

I am really not too interested in being a politician but thank you. As you know, being a politician requires also being a sales person and asking for money. These are things I simply cannot do. I do love the sport though.
Well I hope your little munchkins and hubby are doing well. We have had a spat of tornados here lately but things seem to be calming down a bit now, although we are having serious flooding issues at the moment. If someone believed in signs of Armageddon I think they may consider it happening with all the natural and man made disasters lately¡K.but it keeps me in business I guess.

Take care,
Sarah

shelnMatt - Wednesday, 18 June
Hi there! I am very excited about having this little boy. I really thought that whole experience was over for me. My boys are thrilled to have a little brother on the way. I am sure I will have lots of help when he arrives. I agree that age has made no difference at all with this pregnancy. In fact I actually had high blood pressure with my first and my pressure is fine with this one. My GP told me that more and more people are waiting until they are well in their 30's to start a family. All my tests so far have checked out fine...so now it's just the waiting game and I'm enjoying every minute!

LGK616 - Wednesday, 18 June
Thank you so much!! We are really excited - it's like finding out that we're pregnant all over again!!! And now that she has an identity - I feel even more attached to her then ever!! My hubby was a little disappointed, actually more shocked - he's the only boy in his family - his sister has 2 daughters - and he of course was hoping to have the 1st grandson. But he's so happy and so thrilled - I can see his heart just melts at the thought of having a little daddy's girl! Now I can plan her bedroom!!! Hope you are doing great!!! L xox

RoosterMom - Wednesday, 18 June
Just wanted to pop in and say hello. I hope everthing is going well for you. You are getting closer and closer. I am loving being a new mom. Sure, there are things that are frustrating like interrupted sleep, but it's worth it. I am able to figure out ways to still have a life and have a baby, too. She can take a bottle now, so I can pump some milk and get away a bit if need be. Take care!
Jennifer

mummydawni - Tuesday, 17 June
Afternoon how are you? I have had such a bad day with back pain but not in the lower back more in the middle to top half and being a tough chick I tried to handle it but it wasn't working and my manager sent me home at half 3 so I managed to relax and it's easing up a bit now. I do feel it could be my shoes which prob sounds silly but I had comfy sandals on instead of trainers and I think they are to blame so going back to trainers tomorrow.

Had a lovely moment last night when baba kicked the heart monitor and I managed to capture it on video on phone. He is getting so strong and feels like aerobics in my tummy alot of the time!

So how are your other girls? Looking forward to the new baby arriving? A year off sounds fabulous and I can't wait to have some time off. My parents arrive on Friday (petrol strike allowing) to turn our spare room into a nursery which will be brilliant. We also just found out that my fiance's brother and wife are expecting a baby in November which was conceived with IVF their first attempt was successful so two bundles before Xmas in the family is exciting news.

Take care Dawn xx
