Im sorry you went thru the same thing I did as far as not dialating.. It really sux!.. I guess with me I had ''planned'' on having a completely natural birth in a birthing pool if possible.. And I think when things are ''planned'' out and things change or dont go according to plan its a shock.. So I dont plan things anymore Lol. I just try to go with the flow.. Im so glad to have read some of the things you were saying becuz you totally hit the nail on the head with how Im feeling or have felt.. I felt like a failure as a woman and as a mother because I couldnt deliver her naturally or how I had planned.. I felt ashamed and that feeling of "there must be something wrong with me" for not being able to deliver her as ''most'' women do.. And I blamed myself and my doctor.. I felt rushed during labor and think ''what if I had just been able to labor for as long as it took without being rushed maybe things would have worked ''right'''' but I also know that things happen how they happen for a reason.. And things could have turned out horribly if I hadnt had a csection so who knows Lol.. I know in the end its not how they get here or when but that theyre here and healthy.. It really does help speaking with others and venting my own feelings so I can release them and move forward.. Almost like an online therapy group Lol.. Thanks so much for talking with me and letting vent and release! =) *Sorry for the novel Lol*

Hello.. Thanks for the response. Sorry it took so long to get back to you.. My 2 year old keeps me busy busy Lol.. If ya dont mind me asking what was the cause of your 1st csection?.. I went in for an induction and labored for 14 hours but I wasnt dialating past 4cm and the ob decided to do a csection becuz my water had been broken for a long while and I had that group b strep.. It was so traumatic becuz a csection had NEVER crossed my mind.. In fact my ob never even discussed the possiblity with me.. and Im just beginning to work thru some of the unresolved issues I have due to it.. I too am so grateful that my daughter is happy and healthy but I thought maybe talking to other women who have been thru a similar situation may help me in moving forward instead of dwelling on the ''what ifs'' and the ''if Id just done this or that differently''.. =)

Yeah I'm on facebook.I'm not too bad thanks, how are you?

Yeah the lactulose is really sweet and sickly... The fybogel goes down much more easily... Thats just my opinion though - you should try the lactulose first since it's prescribed and then if thats no good, ask them to prescribe you the fybogel.. Also, drink as much water as you can.. I have a 500ml bottle and I fill it up 4 times a day and sip it throughout the day so I know I get 2 litres.. I also eat fruit and bran for breakfast and eat 2 pieces of fruit like apples or pears - as the skin is classed as 'roughage' and helps move things along.. Hope you go soon, I feel your pain.. lol

Oh the Fybogel is nice!! I've got the orange one and it taste just like fresh orange juice, except it's quite thick and bitty as it has ground husk stuff in it. You can get lemon too but I havent tried those yet.. I only take them because I'm anaemic and on high dose iron, so I started taking them to prevent constipation.. Also had them twice after a 3rd degree tear with number 1 and a 4th degree tear with number 2 :]

Just got my test results back and they are negative, yay! That means the risks of anything happening the next 2-3 weeks are very minimal. I am contemplating whether or not to basically go on bed rest though, since my cervix is still shortening. My own doctor is not a fan of bed rest, but so many sites say it may prevent early labor when you have incompetent cervix. After all the baby is pushing less down on the cervix when you are off your feet. My mom arrived yesterday and is here for 7 weeks, so that is good. It means that either way I can take it easier. I am also waiting to hear back from my doctor about whether or not we can do progesterone injections which is known to help prevent preterm labor. I can't thank everyone enough for the kind and encouraging comments you sent me after my last post. I was so touched by the friendships I have here and so thankful for the prayers. Much love, Karin

Dear friends, please pray for me and baby. I had an extra ultrasound today that I personally requested because is has been 8 weeks since they checked my cervix. I am funneling - meaning my cervix is getting shorter. It is now about 2.7 whereas it was 3.5 8 weeks ago. Studies have shown that women with a cervix shorter than 2.5 has a 50% chance of going into early labor. My doctor took a swap to test for Fetal Fibronectin, a protein that is produced when the body is preparing for labor. I should have the test results by the end of the day. If they are positive there is a 15% chance I will go into labor the next 2 weeks. Please pray it will be negative!! Either way they will be keeping a close eye on me and I will have another ultrasound in two weeks. I am so glad I followed my heart and requested this extra scan, even if I don't have any labor symptoms. Of course I am anxiously waiting for these results - it will be a long afternoon. Please pray for me. xox Karin

lol, there are lots of medical terms out there for pregnancy conditions and unless you are actually faced with them, I don't expect you or anyone to know them. I seem to know most by now - that is both good and bad. But yes, when you have incompetent cervix they can insert a cerclage (basically they sow the cervix together) and 80-90% have a successful pregnancy this way. Placenta previa is when the placenta is actually covering the cervix and therefore there is no way you can give natural birth. Your placenta can also be low lying (so close to the cervix) and usually it moves away as the pregnancy progresses but the previa condition usually doesn't change. Unfortunately there can also be bleeding and other complications connected with previa simply because the baby is sitting on top of the placenta. The condition where the placenta separates from the uterus wall is called placenta abruption. So there's a bit more explanation and terms for you :) I do have an ultrasound appointment on Tuesday just to give me some reassurance. Again, my doctor is not concerned but he said that if I was and felt stressed about it, it would be better to give me one and give me some peace of mind. I have a great doctor and clinic!! Take care! xox

roosa - Thursday, 12 November
I think you are slightly confusing placenta with cervix. Placenta can be low lying and if covering the cervix it is called Placenta Previa (like your friend had). Incompetent cervix is when your cervix is basically not strong enough to hold the baby in and it slowly shortens and then suddenly opens which means labor, and often very prematurely. They said there could be a slight chance I lost my last baby due to this which is why I am of course concerned about it. It has measured okay at the previous scans but as I said, my last one was 8 weeks ago and much could have changed. It will be nice to have some reassurance. Take care! xox Karin

I am doing quite well thanks. I did call my doctors office today though and am hoping to get another u/s next week. It has been 8 weeks - also since they last measured my cervix length and I am feeling slightly stressed about it, particularly because baby kicks kicking straight down on my cervix. Yes, it did get easier for me once I passed my milestone but I still wouldn't say it is easy. We all know there's no safe time and that a million things can go wrong, and that knowledge is forever integrated in our brains. Oh, if just we could go back to being innocent and ignorant again. But overall I am coping alright, both physically and mentally. Lots of hugs, Karin

I just read your comment in the pregnacy loss or something like that that was meant for 14 wks and yes I have experianced that and I experamented and its due to too much soda and not enough water for me... Yet drinking water for a day or mix half a glass of aj with half water If ya don't like water for a day and see If it helps. Other words its normal just your body saying you need more water.

indigocream - Saturday, 7 November

Thanks so much for your comment! Yes it was very very hard losing my first pregnancy, but now I have a beautiful and healthy 5 1/2 month old boy who just cut his second tooth! And I'm sure the same will happen for you! I know I was so scared when I hit 11 wks (that was when I'd m/c) but it came and went and I was ok. Take heart. 9 months goes by faster than you think!!
