My husband is in the RAF so we live down south at the moment (hopefully not being posted elsewhere for another 3 years or so)

We have a boy who is 15 (16 in March 08) who is delighted at taking the role of 'big brother'

Have had cone biopsies on my cervix due to grade 3 smear tests - the last one in 2002 the doc said I could either not have treatment and there was a high likelyhood it would turn cancerous, or have treatment but couldnt have any more family. I broke my heart having the final procedure done, but know that I needed to do it for my beautiful son. I saw a gynae in 2005 about endomitriosis and mentioned the treatment - he was very surprised and reassured me that I could carry full term if I had a stitch.

Have had 4 miscarriages - mostly during the first 5-8 weeks. The worst one was discovered during my 12 week scan - they thought I had my dates wrong and had to go back 2 weeks later where they discovered I had what is called a missed abortion. I still hate that term.

So - bringing me up to date - now I am having a baby due early August. It's hard as I do worry that something may go wrong, and as I need a stitch I am classed as high risk. I am prepared for weeks of bedrest if necessary as long as my baby is OK.

Sunday, 9 Dec
I am classed as a high risk pregnancy due to a few LEEP procedures a few years back. I am waiting for a scan before getting a cerclage put in at 14 weeks. Good luck ladies to anyone in the same position. x

Saturday, 15 Dec
Had an u/s a few days ago and go a heartbeat. How exciting!

Sunday, 6 Jan
Have u/s on 21st January - cant wait to see it on screen and get a piccy

Thursday, 17 Jan
They changed my due date to 2nd August so am back to week 11! Was great to see it on the screen and see the little heart beat. I could see its fingers on one hand. Very cute.

Wednesday, 23 Jan
Bump definately here although im my head I still just look fat. Give it a few months and there is no mistake I havent eaten all the pies!

Tuesday, 29 Jan
Got my date for my cerclage - going in on Tuesday 5th Feb. The nurse advised me I could eat toast at 6am, and could have water until 10am. Surgery scheduled for the afternoon. Bet I crave soft drinks all day....lol

Wednesday, 6 Feb
Had my suture put in yesterday. They ended up knocking me out for the procedure rather than the spinal. Really sore yesterday, and was quite crampy. I didnt have spotting during this pregnancy so to see bleeding (even though I was warned) was a little scary. Been home for a few hours and am now camping out on the sofa as sitting upright is uncomfortable. Ive got another appt on 21st Feb and they are doing another scan - very excited.

Wednesday, 13 Feb
Lower back pain is keeping me awake. My back tends to click when I turn over in bed, and I find it hard to go back to sleep. Good practice for when the baby arrives huh!?

Saturday, 23 Feb
Went shopping today for maternity clothes as I am living in sweatpants. Am amazed at the lack of choice - which means I am going to have to buy clothes online. Why is it manufacturers think pregnant = dowdy??? Baaah... rant over......

Thursday, 28 Feb
Ive noticed my appetite is picking up. My midwife said to eat 6 small meals a day (yeah right!) and im still not eating a normal portion size as feel full quicker nowadays. Now Im finding Im wanting something mid afternoon or 11pmish - and my stomach actually rumbles! Am sticking to cereal or toast though as I dont want to balloon. Im getting really excited about my little bump - I will be relieved when Im over 24 weeks as having the cerclage means I have the worry that any twinge or sharp pain could be disaster. Am resting as much as possible and trying to not stress out about it.

Sunday, 9 Mar
I had been experiencing pains in my stomach last Tuesday and they were getting more and more painful. More worrying was the feeling of pressure I was getting in my cervix. I went to A and E and saw the gynae doc who examined me and said he cannot determine what is happening until I get a scan. He organised one for the next day and admitted me. He said that if my cervix had funnelled to the stitch they would remove it - and the likelyhood was my baby would be born soon after. We were devastated as Ive read lots of stories on here of women who have been hospitalised and had the beds tipped back with their feet above the head to keep the baby in - however these examples seemed to be in the US and I wondered how far behind the UK really is in gynae high risk pregnancies. After a terrible night of hardly any sleep I was sent for my scan at 9.30 the next morning. The sonographer showed us the baby first and I could see it moving about (first time ever its been awake!) and I was so nervous as she did the internal scan to check my cervix length. Apparently the scan came back normal - HUGE RELIEF!!!! Due to my pains they kept me in for observation as they were unsure if it was contractions or something else. They concluded it is pulling due to my adhesions - and since paracetamol is the strongest thing I can take (which has zero effect) There is nothing I can do so it will be a `growing ` pain I will live to bear for the next few months. Not a problem! I was moved to the maternity ward on Thursday due to bed shortages so I had a lovely private room to catch up on much needed sleep. It was a real eyeopener there, as that is the ward I will go on after Ive had the baby. I could see heavily pregnant women in the corridors (and boy did they look big!) and hear babies crying through the walls. They checked my babys heartbeat 3 times a day so after such a scare, Ive really bonded with my growing bump. Its movements have been getting stronger over the last week, and I am getting proper kicks/punches. Its finally dawning on me Im having a baby!

Monday, 17 Mar

Went to a shopping centre which had opened up nearby with my hubby on Friday night. I was walking around minding my business when a shop assistant comes rushing over asking if im ok and if she needed to get a bucket and mop. lol. Because of my backache im walking rather awkwardly and quite a few people recently have asked me when im due. I put a brave face on and say ive another 4 months but I think I will enormous by then. If nothing else fits I shall be sporting a tent.

Tuesday, 25 Mar

Detail scan today - wow! It was an amazing time bonding with my baby. I could see its toes, fingers and its face. Everything looks great. The cord is at the back and high so no complications there. My funnelling and shortening has greatly improved. Today there is NO funnelling, and my cervical length is 37mm which is fantastic. We decided to keep the sex of the baby as a surprise. We were on cloud 9 walking out the hospital. I see my specialist on Thursday but apart from painful SPD I am totally loving this pregnancy.

Wednesday, 2 Apr

Decided to try reflexology for my SPD. It was fantastic! I felt as if I could do back flips out the door...lol. Will definately continue with fortnightly sessions as Ive read will help towards the birth too.

How`s my pregnancy doing?

2 weeks ago my midwife said I was measuring at 32 weeks so she sent me in for another ultrasound...turned out I was bang on to the day that I should have been measuring for. I think she just thinks I look bigger because I'm only 5 feet tall...so still no due date being moved up! Did your MW just measure you or send you in for a scan?

PRETTIEST MOM
Once you have been hit, you have to hit 5 pretty Moms.
If you get hit again, You will know you are REALLY pretty!
So hit 15 pretty moms on your friends list to let them know they are
pretty!
Before I was a Mom
I never tripped over toys or forgot words to a lullaby.
I didn't worry whether or not my plants were poisonous.
I never thought about immunizations.
Before I was a Mom - I had never been puked on.
Pooped on. Chewed on. Peed on.
I had complete control of my mind and my thoughts.
I slept all night.
Before I was a Mom
I never held down a screaming child so doctors could do tests.
Or give shots.
I never looked into teary eyes and cried.
I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.
I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep.
Before I was a Mom
I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn't want to put her
down.
I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn't stop
the hurt.
I never knew that something so small could affect my life so much.
I never knew that I could love someone so much.
I never knew I would love being a Mom.
Before I was a Mom -
I didn't know the feeling of having my heart outside my body.
I didn't know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby.
I didn't know that bond between a mother and her child.
I didn't know that something so small could make me feel so important
and happy.
Before I was a Mom -
I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every 10 minutes to
make sure all was okay.
I had never known the warmth, the joy, the love, the heartache, the
wonderment or the satisfaction of being a Mom.
I didn't know I was capable of feeling so much, before I was a Mom.
Send this to someone who you think is a special Mom.''

Hi, thanks! I'm fine more or less so far. Have my 28wk check up tomorrow. I'm sure the baby is breech at the moment as he/she's kicking away at my abdomen rather than up high. Ah well I guess there's still time for it to change! Apart from that I have the usual - backache, leg ache, restless legs heartburn! How are you getting on?

MommyWonder - Saturday, 3 May
Hey, congrats on the pregnancy! I have been experiencing my little guy pushing me and I can't tell if it's a foot or a fist. That just started this week and it's very cool! It's like this little lump pops out.

JoJoUK - Saturday, 3 May
Hi there just read your post about a foot! Well it's happened to me about 3 times so far and I keep doubting myself but i'm sure like you it was a foot! Felt very different to the other movements that i've felt hard and stronger!! :) it's exciting, congratulations on your pregnancy. x

mumofsix - Saturday, 3 May
I read your post about babies foot across your belly. You are probably right. Often the feet and knees do this. I love it. Sometimes baby will leave it' foot or knee sticking out and I love giving it a little prod and baby moves away and then comes back again. All the best for your preganacy.

Hey Suze,

Its like living two lives, not to mention the fact we now have a built in babysitter (although I'm sure my son would say something different)...I am truly living a dream as I had my boy when I was 22 and I was a single mom with no involvement with my son's 'sperm donor' with this baby I am married and he was planned...and honestly I don't have a worry in the world, not to mention the support of my husband physically, mentally and financially. Don't get me wrong if I had to live my live to this point, I wouldn't change a thing as the struggles and challenges that I perservered have made me the person I am today, but its been interesting living such life so differently now.

I am amazed by the differnce in technology now...when my son was born we just started using faxes and there was no internet...now its anything's possible. Not to mention the mere choice of products now available, its amazing...how the heck did our grandparents ever survive!!!

I hope you are enjoying your pregnancy this go around...michelle

george - Tuesday, 29 April
Thanks for the advice. I've seen the ones that go under the mattress but was worried i was being too paranoid - I guess you can't be too careful. Am determined to try to be a slightly chilled out mum! Am doing fine. Feeling more tired, and breathless but otherwise feel (although I don't look) normal! Is this your first?

nayster01 - Sunday, 27 April
Happy belated birthday!
Hope you had a good one??
Love Naomi xoxoxoxo

AnnieB82 - Sunday, 27 April
Hi Suzie, was just reading your comment on week 26 and couldn't help but smile as I turned 26 weeks last Tuesday 22nd April, and it was also my 26th birthday on the same day - great coinicidence. My mam cooked me dinner and muffins as a treat! Hope you're feeling well :)

mjeans - Sunday, 27 April
Congrats on your pregnancy...I see you have a 16 year old as well...my son will be 16 in August...I smiled when I read your comment about your 'perfected waddle'...I seem to get the same 'horror' on people's faces when I tell them we are not due until end of July...I'm feeling rather huge myself and wonder how much like 'Shamu the whale' I will be closer to my due date...lol, its all good...michelle

Happy Birthday!

fabforty - Tuesday, 22 April
Thanks for commenting on the nursery...I love it. Going really well. I feel good and he is moving, kicking and punching mommy daily :) How are you?

firsttimemomtobe - Wednesday, 16 April
Hey! I definitely know how you feel. I tossed and turned all night long too. It seems that I haven't been getting much sleep lately. I often wake up laying on my back, and then get worried, as everyone says not to do that. Last night, I woke up laying on my back short of breath and extremely dizzy like the room was spinning. I got up about 5 times last night. Anyway..just wanted to let you know you aren't the only restless mommy to be, lol..I don't really have any suggestions for ya..sorry!! Good luck on getting a good night's rest :-)

fabforty - Wednesday, 16 April
Hey there! Hope all is well with you, your family and baby!

nayster01 - Monday, 14 April
Hey Suzie,
You sound just like me if i had a house to do it in!!!!
My pregnancy is going great and is more exciting now i can see my belly moving and feel the kicking, Somedays more than others though! I am still convinced its a girl but will wait til the big day!
Been watching loads of programmes in Mexico on the Discovery health channel about women giving birth! Bit gory but interesting. I am just paranoid about the pooing yourself thing but i am sure when it comes down to it, I wont care either way!!!
Let me know how your appointment goes xoxoxo

nayster01 - Monday, 14 April
Hi Suzie,
I was getting Braxton Hicks too and my gyno said it was perfectly normal to have 20 in a day, as long as they were not about 5 minutes apart. He said if it happened to sit down and take it easy, or go to bed but if its happening alot i would get it checked out. Hope this helps xxxxx

fabforty - Monday, 7 April
Hey there! I will definitely try the apple juice with it as anything will help! It's much better now thank goodness. Hope its not TMI, but I'm ususally pretty regular so this was a complete suprise and was really painful. I know women get it with pregnancy but for some reason I thought I was safe from that problem because I'm usually really regular. Well pregnancy at 40 with a 16 year old has been good. He is really a smart, intellegent, cool kid and is excited about having a brother. It's a little weird because I don't remember alot about what I'm experiencing with my body changes since it was so long ago, so everything seems new! How about you?

shell1981 - Friday, 4 April
hi
thanks for your cooments about ssp i disnt know that thanks i really appreciate it.

donnamarie - Friday, 28 Mar
Congrats on your baby, hope all goes well, stay healthy :)

nayster01 - Thursday, 27 Mar
Hey Suzie,
You lucky thing, I love snow! It must of been like Christmas! Its my birthday tomorrow and I will be 35!!!! Cant believe where the last 5 years has gone already!!It seems i will be eating all day, acording to my hubby and his family plans!
Great news on your scan, sounds like it all went well and babe is doing fine! I am glad you decided to keep the sex a secret. Most of the women on here find out and then talk about the babies with their names, I think thats weird! I always thought you would decide on a few names and see what the babe looked like when it arrived, then decide??? Maybe i am living in the stoneages!!???!!!
I am so happy for you feeling it, I dont feel much at all although I am not worried, just envious!!!! I get the odd flutter here and there, but thats it. My skin is as dry as sandpaper and sooooo itchy, its driving me nuts! I am using palmers oil and balm which helps for a bit. If I could be naked all day, i would be great!!!!
Anyway my friend, keep up the good work, speak soon!!!
Love naomi xoxoxoxoxo

Cece-Y - Thursday, 27 Mar
Hi Suzie

Thanks for leaving your messgae for me. I have read your page and it's so bizarre how similar our experiences are.I'm 22 weeks tomorrow and have been a nervous wreck all week due to being admitted on Saturday as I had a little bleed. I'd also been having a few sharp pains and worried the funneling had reached my stich and was pulling on it. Went for a scan yesterday and the funnel has closed up!!!!! It's such fab news, my cervix is 32mm...we are so chuffed. So i'm carrying on with rest, rest and more rest where possible. I definately agree with your comments on US v's UK doctors and medical care. I find I research a lot on the net at the mo, especially around care patterns of women in the US with similar problems to me. I must be every docotors nightmare though, but I think knowledge is power and the more I can do to help my little baby the better xxx

braenel - Tuesday, 25 Mar
started feeling baby moving at eleven weeks. my partner was able to feel the baby at thirteen or fourteen weeks. that's pretty early though.

nayster01 - Wednesday, 12 Mar
Hi Suzie,
Hope you are feeling better now???
After I wrote to you, I had to call the gyno because I had loads of pain in the whole 'downstairs'! area but found out it was like a bladder infection. I have never had one before and didnt realise it was so painful! Now I have banned my husband from sex for a bit! Hahahahah. He doesnt mind though, I think he is just happy for me not to be in pain!
Its pretty hot here but not unbearable but I am missing my crumpets and roast dinners! I dream about crispy roasties!
You cant get gravy or anything here, although my hubby is a chef but his recipes are long winded! Much easier to do from a bisto packet!!!
Hope your resting good,
Take care xxxxxxx
