Friday, 11 April well, I found out what mine was from. I had a severe kidney infection that was starting labor. So I had to go on strong antibiotics and bed rest to stop the contractions. Now they have stopped and the menstrual cramping has stopped -but they want to do an ultrasound next week to check on the baby now. Hope yours is nothing like that. dancinmama -
Friday, 11 April That's a good plan to stay at home for as long as possible. One way you can do that (its a little weird to some people) is to have your husband learn how to check your cervix. That way you know how labor is progressing and whether you should be getting to the hospital quickly or not. (Only if your water hasn't broken, though). My husband learned how to check mine and he was right on when we got to the birth center with my two kids. Just a thought... dancinmama -
Thursday, 10 April I have had both of my children naturally and had great experiences! If you really want to have a natural birth , I highly recommend the Bradley Method. I took the classes with my first pregnancy. They are 12 weeks long and each week you learn a different relaxation technique as well as "pregnancy info." They require your husband/partner attend with you and that he be the one coaching you through the entire labor. They are also very focused on nutrition (especially getting LOTS of protein) and lack of medically-unnecessary intervention. The website for these classes is www.bradleybirth.com I did not re-take them for my second baby but my husband and I pulled out our workbook and started practicing the relaxation techniques and reviewing some of the key phrases that really helped me through.
My second baby was born "sunny side up" and his labor was much tougher than my first; I didn't even once think of asking for pain relief...I sort of got "in the zone" of delivery and it truly did not enter my mind.
Sorry this was so long, but I REALLY believe in these classes! Good luck with your pregnancy and feel free to ask me any questions at all! Natural childbirth CAN be done and is a wonderful experience...(by the way, with my first I was convinced I wasn't in labor because it should hurt more. When I went in to be checked, my daughter was about 5 minutes away from crowning!) lisasmells -

Wednesday, 9 April Hi there! I have had 2 natural, unmedicated births and 1 induced hospital birth with an epidural. My natural births were both homebirths. I'm expecting my third homebirth any day now. My first was the induction at the hospital with the epidural, and it was the most horrible experience I have ever had. I had less pain combined with my homebirths than I did with the epidural. Plus, I had to stay in the hospital 4 extra days because they couldn't get my heart rate down, and I was so cold, I delivered with about 4 or 5 blankets they had in the blanket warmer for the baby. I was so at peace with my natural births, my midwife didn't think she was in labor when she got here. Last time, she was here barely an hour and a half before I gave birth (I was playing along with Jeopardy when Ken Jennings was winning big from 7:30 to 8:00, went into my room, and at 8:20 my son was born!) This time, with the rate my labors keep shortening, she said to call her right away because she's about an hour away by the time she gets stuff packed up to come and commute time, to make sure she makes it! We're not having any more kids after this, and I'm actually sad after this time, I will never go through the awesome experience of childbirth again. (I'd rather go through the actual birth process than the 9 month pregnancy thing!) Good luck to you! sickasadog -
