luvin3 - 2.8 hours ago I've been kicking myself for not going with a midwife too. Your right, they seem to be so much more involved than the dr. I'm in with my dr. for about 5 min. too...feel totally on my own!
Shaymika1987 - 2.8 hours ago I feel the same about my OB appointments they only last 5 mins at the most just to tell you how fat you have gotten since the last visit. i mean we can tell ourselves that. lol
millercl22 - 34.1 hours ago That's great that you're going to breastfeed. I agree that you should get a high-quality breast pump if you're going to use it a lot and you really want to increase your milk production. I got a high-quality Medela brand pump when I had my first and it really worked well.
dapie898 - 40.5 hours ago aw thanks! glad i could help
dapie898 - Friday, 5 September after a few weeks you can always pump to stimulate your milk production if you don't want to exclusively breast feed...if you are going to do both breast and pump then you can get any pump but if you are going to exclusively pump (like if you have to go back to work or breastfeeding isn't working out for you but you still want to feed baby breastmilk) i would get a medela or ameda pump...they are expensive but worth it...if only pumping they are as efficient as breastfeeding..if you are doing both any pump will do because baby will still be latching on. pumps aren't as good for keeping milk supply as a baby is but the medela and ameda are close
uk baby - Friday, 5 September hiya, if you plan to breastfeed, better do it exclusively, the more the baby drinks, the more you produce. by giving a bottle of formula a day you would produce less milk. in fact if you want to produce more, better feed and express and you will have loads!
dapie898 - Friday, 5 September If you are going to breastfeed you should probably strictly breastfeed for the first few weeks...the first 5-7 days all you produce is colostrum...which is plenty for the baby. baby's belly is the size of a small marble when born...if you give a bottle then baby's belly stretches a little and they aren't satisfied with just colostrum...very important for your milk supply to breastfeed every feeding...it's a supply and demand process so if you don't do it for a day your body thinks baby didn't need to eat that day so would produce less. Also drink lots of water and calories like you are pregnant...your body will use them up breastfeeding and will make breastmilk healthy. Also..a bottle is easier for baby because with breast the first few min. of sucking is really just bringing down milk...if baby has a bottle too soon baby may not want the breast because they have to work harder at it...but it's definitely better for baby. I feel the best formula is Goodstart...I pumped and supplemented with formula with my first (he was in the nicu for a long time and wouldn't take breast by the time he came home) only issue was when i stopped pumping he got su per constipated and Goodstart doesn't have any special formulas like Enfamil and Similac do. I tried Similac but hated it and so did he and ended up on Enfamil low iron for a a few months until his bowel habbits were under control then just went to regular Enfamil and I thought Enfamil was pretty good too. I don't like the consistency of Similac. Also I recommend the powdered formula that oyu mix with nursery water...then you never have to worry about the bottle being cold because they don't need to be refrigerated...you should just feed baby a bottle at room temperature. :)
millercl22 - Friday, 5 September Everyone will probably say Enfamil is best, but, with some exceptions, there really is no "best" formula. You may find that your baby will respond best to something other than Enfamil. I spent years as a daycare worker and each parent had their preference of formula for their baby. FYI- I was informed by my daughter's nurse to be careful about using soy-based formula. She says it doesn't have all the same nutrients a milk-based formula does, and to use it only if it is certain that your baby is lactose intolerant or has some other medical reason to be on soy formula. Good luck choosing a formula :)
mommatiff3 - Friday, 5 September Enfamil Lipil formula is supposed to be closest to breast milk.
