September 20th. Two days before my wedding!! And I thought the nausea was from nerves!!

LOL! Alyvia knows when she's gonna get the boob... She'll be crying and screaming, and once I pick her up and put her on her side facing my boob, her eyes get really wide, her forehead wrinkles up, and her mouth turns into a big "O" and she starts to make all these funny noises. She'll squeal and put her hands up by her mouth like she's super excited! hahah. I'll have to see if I can get Kamil to take a picture of it one of these times. It's so cute! And then she'll pull away sometimes and just look at me like 'OMG THAT'S GOOD! Then her head will start to shake back and forth like we talked about before, and she'll start to snort through her nose like "OK! GIMME SOME MOOOORE! I'M READY!!" hahah! I love her.. she's such a comedian, and doesn't even know it! I can tell she's gonna have quite a sense of humor when she's older!!

Her hair is starting to turn a reddish color!! My natural hair color is strawberry blonde (not real blonde, but it's a reddish color lol). My dad has dark reddish brown hair, and my youngest sister has an orangish red hair... That sucks for Kamil if Lyvi ends up with red hair.. cuz he'll be the odd one out with his black hair! hah!

And I had asked my mom when her eyes would turn brown, since both Kamil & I have brown eyes. She said it could take several months, or they could even stay blue! I was wondering how that could happen, since we have brown eyes.. and she said because it's in my genes. My mom has grayish blue eyes, so that gene could have skipped me and been dominant and gone on down to my child. How weird?!?

That's stupid that you weren't able to get WIC! I like it, cuz the price of milk has gone up! The only bad thing, now that it's just me & Kamil, besides Alyvia, but she doesn't eat real food yet, we can't finish 5 gallons of milk in a month! It was fine when we were w/my mom, cuz she didn't have to buy milk, or eggs, or cheese! (we get 2lbs of cheese, too! Along with 2 dozen eggs, 36oz of cereal, 16oz jar of peanut butter or a lb of beans). So now I take my mom shopping for some of that stuff hahah

And yes, I definitely leak on demand! It's so weird how our bodies know when it's time to feed the bebes! It's funny.. she'll latch on the pull of a few seconds later, RIGHT AFTER my milk lets down, and I've got milk squirting in 3 different directions! It gets all over her face, the pillow, me, whatever I'm sitting on.. everything! I even squirted Kamil earlier today... LOL!

Haven't heard of a hooter hider I don't think.. Well maybe I have. I think I've seen them before - only with a different name! I'll have to look for one and see if we can get one. It'll definitely be a lot easier to BF in public with that, instead of throwing a blanket over my shoulder and her, and having it slide off!

I'm so happy that I don't work! I wouldn't be able to handle leaving Alyvia for any length of time during the day!! Hopefully your boss will just continue to let you work from home, since you're doing it already. That'd be great!!

LOL about the pump and thinking of me!! Hahah. I can actually get one for free from WIC, but not until the baby is 6 weeks old. It's stupid, but I think they just want to make sure I've got breast feeding established first. So I'll just wait. I'm not planning on going anywhere w/o her right now anyway, so all I gotta do is pull my boob out! But breast feeding is getting sooo much easier for me too! Yay for us!!! It only hurts for a few seconds when she latches on, like tiny little knives, but after that, I barely feel it! All I feel is her tugging on my nipple when she sucks. I'm sooooooo glad I stuck with it. I love it so much! It's time consuming, especially now, since I think she went through a growth spurt and she's eating more now at each feeding, but I still wouldn't give it up for bottle feeding just to gain a few more mins during the day.

Lyvi is doing AMAZING. Growing like crazy, for sure! She's real awake during the day, I absolutely love it. I love how I can interact with her. I heard that around 4-5 weeks is when babies start to smile intentionally, instead of grinning when they toot lol. I can't wait!

The only shots she's gotten so far was the Hep B at the hospital - the first dose. She goes back August 1st for her 2 month checkup, and I think she has to get like.. 6 shots then :( I'll cry, I just know I will!!

My mom told me about 45 mins before we go in, to give her infant tylenol, so kind of help reverse the hurt. So I'm definitely gonna be doing that, so she doesn't hurt as bad afterward.

QUESTION

Dear Dr. Needlman,
My premature baby's tongue quivers randomly toward the end of a bottle-feeding when he starts to get sleepy. It also does this when he is sucking on his pacifier. It doesn't disrupt feeding and is not causing any problems. I am wondering if this is caused by immature muscle development. Any help would be appreciated!

Dear Concerned Mom,
I am often impressed that parents observe absolutely everything about their new babies! Sucking on a bottle or pacifier is hard work for a young baby, and most probably tiring. The tongue or chin quivering likely represents random activity by a muscle that is temporarily over-tired. You are right to call it "immature," because with growth and maturation, the muscle gains strength and endurance. You also might notice tiny muscle twitches of hands, legs, and face as your baby drifts off to sleep. These, too, are entirely normal.
