Did you receive a baby aspirin when you had the bleeding? If so, as a nurse I would say it was to control the clotting factors in your body. Aspirin acts as a blood thinner and keeps the blood from clotting which could cause serious complications. It is the same reason the nurses massage your fundus (top of your uterus) after you deliver to control the bleeding and prevent clotting. Hope that answers your question!
