On 4-8-08, at 28 weeks pregnant, I went to the ER with horrible stomach pains. On 4-12-08 I had emergency surgery. It turns out I had been born with a malrotated bowel, which until then I did not know about or had had any problems with. A portion of my bowel had twisted on itself causing a bowel obstruction. That portion of bowel was dying and very close to exploding which would have killed me and my baby. The surgeons removed the obstruction and sewed the remaining bowel together. A few days later I was released from the hospital. Unfortunatly, on 4-20-08 I once again developed stomach pains. By the time I got to the emergency room I was screaming in pain. I had another CAT scan which showed a perforation where the bowel had been reconnected. I was rushed into another emergency surgery. The second surgery was more extensive, they had to remove scar tissue from the first surgery and then clean out my "dirty" abdominal cavity. The second surgery left me with an ileostomy. My small intestine sticks out of my tummy and leaves waste in a bag, rather than the waste continuing through the colon and out the rear. In the future, I may have another surgery to reconnect the large and small intestine. I hated having to have surgery, medication, and radiation exposure while pregnant, but it was a life or death situation. I was given Indocin after each surgery to stop preterm labor, and steroids to mature my babys lungs. I had low amniotic fluid after the surgeries so I had NSTs and fluid checks twice a week. I lost a lot of weight, so I also had growth ultrasounds to make sure my baby was still growing. My baby did wonderfully through the whole ordeal. I had a easy labor and deliever and my daughter Alyssa Grace was born healthy and beautiful at 36 weeks. I am blessed and thank God that my daughter and I are alive.

Thank you. He is precious. He gained an ounce, over night. That makes me very happy. It is so hard with a preemie as young as he is. Every day is different. I am just looking forward to the day I get to bring him home. It is horrible to wish your life away, but I can not wait until October!

Wow. What was the surgery for? Is everything fine now? I sure hope so!

i pump, so i bottle feed with breast milk. so with pumping and feeding her i have absolutely no time to do anything else during the day. like you i have trouble knowing if shes really hungry or just wants to suck. today i tried giving her a pacifier in between feedings..i only made her wait an hr since the last time she ate and it seemed to work. maybe that will work for your baby too?! also like your baby my daughter had plenty of wet and dirty diapers, maybe nothing is wrong with our babies and they are just hitting a growth spurt?!

I'm not using soothers 'cause my parents never used one with me and my dad's side never used them at all! So I wanted to keep it in the family

Wow, what kind of surgery did you have?

jcody777 - Monday, 21 July
I was the same way as you. It broke my heart to let my little Colton "Cry it out" then my mother in law told me that when they are this young there actually is a reason they are crying. Be it an air bubble in their stomach, they are still hungry, etc...
She said it is when they are a little older that you are supposed to let them cry.

Glad you enjoyed gettign out of the house! The more you do it, the easier it becomes too. We never play with our son in the middle of the night. From everthing I have read, you should do nothing to stimulate them at night time feedings so they know night time is all business. Change, feed, burp, back to bed!

I had to post you when I read what you wrote last time I was on!!!!! Abby is my 3ed and you think I would know what I was doing, I have no clue somedays what she wants. It is hard work, but like it said it gets better. Abby is a very cranky baby, (just like my first) I had a week where I was letting her cry it out and not holding her every min but I was more stressed when all the crying was going on, so I thought to why am I doing this she wants to be with ME. Things have gotten alot better in the last few weeks when I give her what she wants. Like I said it does go so fast. A book I read was the happiest baby on the block, it helped me understand why she is so needy. If you have any questions I would be happy to help, Cherie Alyssa very cute aswell ENJOY her.

Hi what you are feeling is very normal, Your life changes, It will get better!!! Abby is almost 10 weeks old and she had just stoped fussing, when they do a growth spurt they will often eat every 1-11/2hrs we have been going throught this for the last 2 days. So see if it gets better in a few days. Abby was our 3ed daughter and our other 2 are 11 - 7, BIG eye opener they are alot of work when they are so small. But I swear it gets WONDERFUL, smiles, hugs, running around, frist words. Dont rush the first few months, They REALLY dont stay small for long. Just hold her, feed her when she wants dont worry about when the last feeding was!!!! In a fue weeks she wont be so needy. I also found that when she was getting a cold she would want to eat every 1hr-11/2. Take care xoxoxox

Hey! I think how you are feeling is normal! First,. do you make day and night obviously different for her? Night time should always be quiet, dark, no talking. Day should be bright, some noise like tv or radio, etc.
As for feeling alone, as soon as I started taking Michael on a daily outing like a trip to walmart or dollar tree or whatever, I felt a lot less isolated. I was so afraid he might need to be fed when I was out, and I was not even breastfeeding. Eventually, I just got all ready to go with the diaper bag packed. Then as soon as he fed, i would pop him in the carseat and go. He usually sleeps through all of our little field trips! Good luck. You are not alone to feel this way!
