Thanks for the info. That's a good point about the bowel movement...I didn't think of that. I'm going to ask my doctor today how long he lets moms go past due, but I have a feeling it'll be 2 weeks. Hopefully I'll go before then!

OH that's hilarious. I think you and I are sharing the same brain and the same husband! lol Poor things....they'll find out soon enough!

Awwhh, don't worry about breastfeeding - nothing to worry about! Your baby will know exactly what to do, you'll just need to help alittle. It's so rewarding, only you can do that and the bond is amazing! Abbygail hasn't had any trouble, infact its going beautifully. I did make a mistake the 4 day I was home....I let her sleep and whenever she woke up I fed her....OH no, no, no.....She MUST nurse every 2-2 1/2 hours during the day-whether shes asleep or not, BUT at night time, she can sleep all she wants. Doing that helps her to know that nighttime is for sleeping, daytime is for being awake/napping. Hope that helps ya---Good luck and let me know how it goes. *hugs*

Gravol is an anti-nausea drug that causes drowsiness but doesn't hinder labour. Check out its safety here: http://www.safefetus.com/DrugDetail.asp?DrugId=323&TradeName=Gravol&TradeId=5511
I used to take it when I got motion sickness as a teenager. If I took one before school, I'd sleep through my classes and get in trouble!

Jo-Mama - Tuesday, 11 Mar
My midwife encourages me to go to bed as soon as I feel labour pains in order to conserve my energy. She said to take a Gravol and knock myself out if I have to because I will need to get rest.

Don't give in! I received so many sweet messages after I posted about the negative women I talk to. You don't have to have the birth everyone else wants you to have. Now, it's not like you are guaranteed to have the birth of your dreams, but you can chart a course and aim for it, despite what people say.

Here's what I keep thinking when it comes to the pain: the worst of the pain is during transition (when your cervix finally reaches 10 cm dilated). Transition is the shortest part of labour. For many women it's only about 20-30 minutes. It passes. Many women tell me that when they started to push it was a lot easier and the horrible doubtful painful part was past. So I think, can I handle something that's excruciating for 20 minutes? Sure I can. If you tough through it, then pushing is easier without the epidural and goes a lot faster.

This may not be the situation you're faced with, but it is a likely situation. The worst pain is the shortest part of labour and it definitely comes to an end. Just think of holding your little baby afterwards. If that's not a reward, I don't know what is.

Good luck and feel free to make the choices that make you happy.

It's great to know someone else is feeling that stabbing awful pain (not that I would wish it upon anyone, but it makes me feel better that I'm not a medical freak of some sort). It's so bad I can't even speak when it happens and I just gasp for air and either throw myself on my side and recline or if i'm standing I just try not to hit the floor. At this point I just want to go into labor because it can't be much worse than this awful type of pain. At least contractions have some kind of pattern, this pain is so unexpected that it makes it hurt worse than if I knew it was coming. Hope everything else is going okay for you and thanks again for the comment!

Last week at my dr. appt., my bp was 145 over 84 and they sent me to Labor and Delivery to be monitored. Now, it went down & my blood test for pre-eclampsia came back negative and I was not spilling protein in my urine, so I was sent home with no problem. I think your BP can be higher if you don't have the other issues going along with it.

Chrissy2008 - Wednesday, 5 Mar
Hi, in regards to your question about high bp, your bp is not really in the boundary of high, it is still ok. They will keep an eye on it for you, but at this stage your still well within the normal range. Try not to stress or you will make it go through the roof.. Take Care, and wishing you a happy health and quick delivery!!

Hi ya~ a mattress cover would be good or just a towel or 2 under your sheet. As I recall (14 yrs ago) it wasn't ALL of the fluid, a good bit though, like a tall glass of water. Wasn't bloody, it was clear. Can you believe its this close???? 7 more days!!!! Argh!!! You ready?

Hi,
Thanks for the Target info. I was able to print out a gift reciept online from the packing slip that came in the box. It was so frustrating b/c if eveyone bought stuff on my registry online w/o a gift receipt I would have to contact each person. I'm just glad I was able to return these items now b.c Im so exhausted lately. Well, good luck to you and thanks again. :)

I've never taken my prescribed prenatals. I've been taking organic/natural ones since the beginning. They run me $15 a month.

lisar - Monday, 25 Feb
I take Natal-Care which is a generic. I forget the name of what I originally took, but I know it was one of the newer ones (my dr. said the best) that contatined the DHA and the Omega 3 fatty acids that many vitamins don't have. The pharmacist assures me that the one I'm taking now has all the same stuff in it. I switched for a similar reason, I was paying about $60 each time I refilled and now I pay $10.

mom-o-7 - Monday, 25 Feb
I'm the last person to ask about prenatal vitamins...I never take mine...I did at first, but now just forget...the Dr. said as long as I take one every once in awhile..he would be satisfied..I know, I'm bad!!

Hopefully they dont get very deep and bright colored. I got them on my breasts in the 1st trimester b/c they grew so quickly but they are very light already. hopefully the ones on my belly will do the same!!

Oh dear. This week just got over a huge debate on bottles. Babydane found an excellent website that rated every single bottle. See if you see the debate in the past postings. It was just about 2 days ago. I decided to go with a variety. Some glass and then there is the Born Free brand that is BPA free and I got some small plastic ones from them and I already had Dr. Brown's that I will stick with anyway. I plan to breastfeed, so hopefully won't need bottles too often. Our hospital recommends the Avent bottles, but they were rated one of the worst. Not BPA free at all.

momagain - Friday, 15 Feb
I intend to breastfeed, but once I begin to supplement, I'm doing glass bottles, until he is old enough to hold them himself, then I will have to improvise. I've always thought glass bottles were much easier to keep clean, re-heat, etc. I can't remember where I got mine for my daughter. Maybe at a 2nd hand baby store. They have them at babies r us, also.

Jo-Mama - Friday, 15 Feb
I am definitely using glass bottles. My mom is so happy. She says that all the moms now always cut up the way they did things in the 70s, but now glass bottles are back! She feels that finally she's acknowledged for doing something right.

Glass is good because it doesn't stain the way plastic does, it's easier to clean, it's better for the environment, and it doesn't have those pesky plastisizers that are causing all the scares lately.

I saw your post about baby movement, if you are doing a lot during the day you probably rock the baby to sleep. I have a really active baby- who just kicks none stop and when he didnt kick or move for 14 hours i went straight to hospital they put me on a moniter and as soon as he heard his own heart beat he starting kicking... made me out to be a right fraudster! lol. My placenta is at the front which makes it more difficult to tell whn baby moves. Also when the baby is having a growth spurt (someone else who is pregnant told me) the baby doesnt move a lot. And I have noticed that for about a day each week my baby doesnt move quite as much as he normally does. Hope everything works out for you. If you are very concerned dont delay in calling the doctor, as it will just make you more distressed not knowing. xx

mommyinthesky - Thursday, 14 Feb
Hi, I've had the same baby movement concerns my entire pregnancy. My baby just does not move that often. The location of my placenta is part of the problem. It's right on top and acts as a buffer. But it's the same for me, maybe 3 times a day. A little in the morning a little in the evening when my husband comes home from work, and then sometimes when I wake up in the middle of the night. My sister's baby moves all day long and it makes me sad when I hear about others. I wonder if there is something wrong with my baby etc. But I've seen him moving on the ultrasound where I can't feel a thing, so I know he's in there. It's hard not to worry though, I know.

yay4baby1 - Thursday, 14 Feb
This is my first post, but I saw your comment about baby movement and signed up to be a VIP because I just went through all that. I went to the hospital to be put on a monitor because I have a really active baby and she wasn't moving at all. As soon as we got there, she was doing jumping jacks and perfectly fine. It was such a relief! If you are worried, it's the confirmation that you need to make sure everything's fine. PLUS--they suggested I do a 'kick count'. You just keep a record of your baby's movements everyday. Everytime you feel the baby move, mark a tally. Once you feel 15 kicks, you're done for the day! They also suggest you monitor by what time you get to 15, to make sure it's not a significant difference from day to day. I hope this helps!
