AND TWINS MAKE 5!!!

December 21st 2007

I took a home pregnancy test today and after several weeks of extreme nausea and denial confirmed i was pregnant. something everyone but me already believed to be true. I even had a girl i work with ask if was pregnant today and said absolutely not just getting fat!

January 9th 2008

Had my first dr visit today. I was very nervous to see how everything was going and must admit have been feeling depressed. I have had 3 miscarriages very early in pregnancy since my 2 sons were born. My youngest being nine years old. The dr wanted to make sure everything was going as should be and maybe start me on some hormones to help sustain the pregnancy so she ordered an ultrasound. The first surprise was i was much further along than thought. 15weeks. what i thought was my period in November was not. The second surprise floored my husband and i.

WE ARE HAVING TWINS!!!!!!

2/8

Well we had the anatomy ultrasound done on 2/4 and found out we are blessed with one of each. Its a girl and a boy. Only thing is I am petrified now. They told me the girl tested postive for 1 of 15 markers for downs syndrome and asked if i want amniocentesis, which my husband and i said no to. The risks do nt outway my need to know about something i cant change. And my regular dr says the one marker we showed was a very common one and we shouldnt worry. But i cant help but to worry. My quad screen came out great however which makes the risk of her having downs even smaller. I just have to think positive, but at the same time I want to be prepared. What do i do?

2/12

Feeling alot better about the ultrasound results today. I had to go back to the Dr for a kidney infection yesterday and she was very reassuring that the only marker we tested for was a common one. and she felt there was no need for the amnio. so i am not freaking out like i was anymore. things will be as they were meant to be

2/21

well it seems things keep- going wrong. I went to the dr yesterday for a routine visit and since they didnt write a number down for my cervix and she is picky about how her charts look she decided to have the ultrasound tech take a quick peek. Good thing. my cervix shortened from the normal 4 to 1.7 since my ultrasound. I had to go for an emergency procedure today. they performed a cerclage on my cervix. they stitched my cervix shut to keep my little ones in till they are done roasting. Now I am on strict bedrest for the remainder of my pregnancy. I wasnt planning on leaving work this early.

everything is going along pretty good right now i guess. last week i had a good scare though. i kept having these really intense chest pains and had to go to the emergency room twice. the first time they just checked my blood and said i hadnt had a heart attack. the second time they wrapped me in lead shields and did a cat scan and said they couldnt find anything wrong. Either the babies are hitting a nerve or I am having panic attacks. lovely. but no pains in a few days. i am just taking it easy as i can and relaxing as much as possible.

We had our growth ultrasound today. everything went very well. the little girl weighs in at 2.2 lbs and the boy was 1.14. We had a 4d ultrasound and in it it looks like the little girl is whispering in his ear. their little heads are all snuggled in close. I cant imagine a bond like that. One that pre-dates their birth. its a beautiful thing and i am so blessed to be a witness and participant.

3/20

**sigh**

just when i think everything is going normal and looking good i get a call from my Dr.s office. My blood sugar for my test yesterday was 184. Not good. Now I have to go back Monday for the three hour fasting test. I kind of knew this was going to happen. I had gestational diabetes with my nine year old but i was so hoping to avoid it this. And it had been so long ago i thought maybe i could. CRAP.

3/22

Well Happy Easter. Today was horrible. I dont know what has been wrong with me today. I have been either crying or angry all day. I am not usually such an over emotional person but to day has been off the charts. And to top it off i have felt bad all day. Every time I stand up I get dizzy and feel like I could pass out and I get theses waves of nausea. I think it could have something to do with my sugar being high. I hope thats all it is. I go back first thing in the morning to have the 3 hour test.

3/26

Well the three hour test was torture just like i remembered it to be. Starve for half a day and get treated like a pin cushion. I didnt hear anything back yesterday so i assumed the results were okay. That was not the case. The scheduler for my Dr. office just called to set up my appointment with a nutritionist and specialist. I failed. I told her no one had even called to let me know that and she was a little upset that the nurse hadnt called me like she was supposed to. A few minutes later the nurse called. So it seems I do have gestational diabetes. I have to say goodbye to late night ice cream and all the goodies that we all love to indulge in when we are pregnant sometimes.

Thankfully up until now everything has been flowing so well I havent had much to write about. Had a slight glitch this weekend however. My husband went on a trip to Va. to visit his daughter and I stayed with my mom and dad and sister while he was gone. Somewhere I managed to pick up the worst stomach flu i can remember having. After throwing up all night Fri I thought I felt like I was having contractions. Off to the hospital we went. I was unable to keep anything down. They wound up admitting me to give me fluids to help hydrate me and stop the contractions. They also gave me 3 bags of potassium because I was so depleted. Let me warn you. Potassium hurts like acid going in your veins. I could trace my vein from my hand to my elbow just from the pain. Sunday they let me go home and I was still throwing up. Monday morning I had an ultrasound done to check on the growth of my 2 little ones. Not so little anymore my girl is 3 lb 14 oz and my baby boy is 3 lbs 12 ozs. Keep growing my little seeds. It wont be long now.

congratulations, they're so gorgeous! how are they doing? how are you holding up? my babies are lovely, time-consuming little monsters; so adorable but i'll be glad when they take less energy. :)

Lame! That's how big you got with TWINS? And NO stretch marks? I hate you! Ha, that's how big I am now, 2nd baby, no twins, and stretch marks! You're a lucky girl!

From where you describe your itching is, I would say you probably do have it. I was treated with 300mg of Ursadiol twice daily (after breakfast and after dinner). It is a bile acid and I guess that by taking it orally, you convince your liver to stop producing more and that causes the acid to spill into your blood less. It reduced the itch, but didn't get rid of it. It made it bearable and I was able to sleep much better after being on it for a week. What has really helped is Vistaril. It is an antihistimine. I can take it up to every 4 hours, but I only take it before bed because it totally knocks me out. But, the plus is that as long as I am ridiculously unconscious, I am unaware of the itch!

Due to increased risk in fetal demise after 37 weeks, I will be induced right at 37 weeks, which is this Sunday, May 25th. I will still be around online, though. Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions.

How is everything going for you? I'm 34 weeks tomorrow and have a dr. appointment and ultrasound on Friday, so I'm just waiting to see how big my little ones are now and how soon they'll be here. Less than a month to go, though, I'm pretty sure!

Thanks for the congratulations! Congrats to you, too! Do you have names picked out yet? I've been surprised at how hard it is to pick two names. My little boy is Ethan Liam and my girlie is either Sydney Lianna or Lianna Elise. I think. I read your profile and I'm sorry you've been having some problems. I'm crossing my fingers that everything keeps going as smoothly as it has been for me-- no problems at ALL. I feel really fortunate. When does your OB want you to deliver? Are you having a c-section?
