February 2008

My husband and I have been together for 12 years, and married for 8 years. We had a lot of time with it just being the two of us - and our pets. I went to school, earned my elementary teaching degree, and then taught elementary school for several years - primarily kindergarten. We decided to try for our first child in early 2003, but it took nearly 2 years to conceive. I was getting worried, but I was so involved in work that I hardly had time to think about it. Then in my busiest and most difficult school year of all, I finally got pregnant. It wasn't the best timing, but it really saved me! I was SO stressed with my job, that my pregnancy helped to take my mind off of work and on to the future. I was due with my daughter about 2 weeks after the school year ended, which would have worked out perfectly. However, she came 2 weeks early, and I missed the last 3 days of that year. (Thankfully I was prepared for that, and had all the important business in school wrapped up!) I'm a stay-at-home mom now, and not sure when I'll go back to work.

Our daughter's name is Melanie and she was born on May 25, 2005. I can't believe she'll be 3 this year!!! She is a bright and beautiful little girl! I honestly prayed for a little girl - even though a boy would be just as wonderful. My mother passed away when I was only 14, so I always craved having a mother-daughter realtionship I feel like I missed out on. So my little girl is a true blessing to me! I really felt like our family was completed once she came along, but earlier this year I began to feel like she might be lonely and need a sibling. This time we only had to try for 4 months and I got pregnant!

My due date is August 6, 2008 - and of course the first thing everyone says is "Boy, it's gonna be a hot summer for you." Is anyone else tired of hearing this? Anyways, this pregnancy has been quite a bit more difficult for me. I had a ton of nausea my first trimester, and it still creeps up from time to time. My breasts are still sore, and I keep getting colds. I have a nasty sinus infection right now. I really feel like this will be my last child, so I want to savor this pregnancy - but it's been hard! Right now I'm counting down the weeks until my ultrasound to see what the baby is. I really don't care this time around. A girl would be easier for us now, but a boy would be so exciting too. I just want to start shopping!!!

July 27, 2008

Well I haven't kept up the info on my page, so I thought I would quickly.

I'm at the end of my pregnancy now!!! As you can see, we're having a BOY! Our 3 year old daughter is SO excited. She keeps saying, "Mommy, what's taking so long for him to come out?" It's so cute! We have decided to name him Tyler Mathias. (I'm not crazy about the middle name, but my husband has several good reasons for choosing it - and I guess he should have a say-so in it - LOL!)

This pregnancy has been tough! I've had about every discomfort I could have, including sciatica (since 12 wks), carpal tunnel, heartburn/acid reflux, fatigue, major swelling, TONS of Braxton Hicks contractions,... etc! However, I have no health problems to worry about. I had to have an ultrasound last week at my 38 wk check b/c the doctor I saw (in place of my regular one) thought my baby was breech. She scared me so much, but I was still pretty sure she was wrong. I would have had to schedule a c-section for this coming week if so; however, the u/s showed he's in perfect position! They said he's already 7 lbs 9 oz - so I hope he comes soon.

We just about have the nursery done now. Just a few decorating final details. I will post pics of it when done. You can see what my daughter's nursery looked like in my "photos". I was very sad taking everything down and painting it. However, she now has an adorable "big girl" bedroom.

I wish the best for everyone! I will soon be having my sweet little boy and will post my birth story and pics soon after.

August 1, 2008

Tyler Mathias was born!!! He's perfect! See my birth story under "children."

I hear you on being short tempered. I am absolutely ready to be my old self. I am ready to have energy again!

Thanks for your comments. I have bad IBS too and that can be very painful. I used to describe the intense pains as contraction like pains (not that I have had a conttraction) and people would laugh at me. But it could get so damn painful that I am expecting worse of worse IBS pains plus more. With my IBS it comes in waves and I need to breath through them and not fight them until my body is ready. I'm thinking you may understand my thoughts. Thanks for listening!

hey! is it really really hard being pregnant and having to care for a toddler too? I want to try for #2 but we live overseas away from family (a.k.a. help) and I am wondering if I could handle it!

Sounds like you've been through alot with your thyroid disorder. I've been on 112 for awhile but it was increased to 125 a few wks ago because of the pregnancy. I'm still tired, achy sometimes, but its always hard to tell whether its just the prego thing or the thyroid acting up again. My mom had a garter that had to be removed when she was about 18 years old. I haven't had anything like that before. I'm like you, very concerned about the right dosage because the last thing I want is something to go wrong with the development of my baby because of he/she lacking something related to the thyroid disorder. I would be devastated. You don't have much longer to go so good luck to you and keep me posted.

I am sorry about your husband, its awful to have any type of set back but when its health related that makes it so much worse. At least this is something he will over come in a short amount of time.

But it is a very wonderful feeling getting closer to all this. Today I am taking a few hours to take my son to Chuck E Cheese to spend some specail time with him and we have to go a few towns away to do so, I may just pick up the 1-2 other items we need then I will be all done.

Enjoy your baby's new room.

Hey, I have hypothyroidism. I've had it for about 5 years. I have gained alot of weight and have found it very hard to lose it. I'm 39 and will be 40 in October. I'm taking synthroid 125 right now. The doctor increased my levels from 112 to 125 when I had my last appt. I still feel tired, achy, etc..... how do you feel?

About feeling like things are behind...trust me I am right there with you. We are going to induce on July 26th and we are in the middle of turning the garage into a mater for us. It still has not been painted, nor the carpet ordered or even installed. Plus we have to paint our other two rooms, which one will be for my 7 year old and paint the babys room. We only have 3 weeks to get all this done because I want the room painted at least 2 weeks before the baby comes. So I understand how you feel. I have to keep telling myself it will get done and not to stress out but that is easier said then done. Good luck.

I work on my feet and its only four hour shifts, but I know how you feel with the sciatica and not being able to move once I get home, but I have found that sitting on an excersise ball REALLY helps! I just roll my hips on it and it works on my joints. I at least can get up a walk a bit after.

mumofsix - Friday, 20 June
I find that if I rock side to side when standing it helps keep things from stiffening up. People may look at you funny but who cares!!! You may also find pelvic tilts and doing a hoola(?) action helps. I know I like it. Lean your hands on a wall and then gently swing you hips and pelvis in circles that are comfortable for you.

Haha. I can't imagine that! You're welcome and I hope you have a great time!

I'm on my 3rd baby and we're having a shower. LOL. My first was a girl, second was a boy and we got rid of everything thinking we were done. hahah. NOT! So, we are surrounded by a completely different group of people this time so they are throwing us a shower. I think it's great. I don't get the rules of only having a shower with the first baby. Congrats on your new little one and enjoy your shower! It's not like you're throwing it for yourself so don't let the in laws bring you down. :)

Of course:) I re-read what I wrote and I was worried I sounded like a total B! I really do like the name, it sounds very strong and I love strong names for boys! Good luck I hope you end up loving it...especially when your baby looks up at you and you couldnt think of a better name to fit him;)Have a wonderful day!!!!

mumsy - Monday, 16 June
Thank you so much for your comment about the rings! My hands just started swelling in the past few days and today was particularly hot, so that didn't help matters. I did a Google search myself and saw that same technique you mentioned. That was the only one I hadn't tried...I thought I would give my hand a rest until tomorrow! The only thing that I worried about was having the tape on for so long, didn't it hurt? I will give it a try tomorrow, and thanks again so much I really appreciate it!
I noticed one of your polls was about strollers. I too have a nearly three year old and one due in three weeks. I did a ton of "research" about strollers and the one I am going to get is the BOB dualie. It is not cheap (around $500) but it is EXCEPTIONAL!! I don't know the web address but if you Google it, it is easy to find. Good luck!
