I'm 27 years old and this is the first baby for me and my boyfriend. The baby was not planned, but is very welcome right now. . . not to say that I didn't shed many tears when I first found out. I took a test and it came back positive on November 03, a mere 6 days before we were supposed to close on our house. We spent hours debating whether or not we should still get our house and eventually decided to proceed. I couldn't imagine bringing a baby home to an apartment after being so close to getting a house. I am very glad we chose to buy our home, but I still panic everyday wondering if we will be able to handle and afford everything.

I am nearly six feet tall and I got the Chicco Cortina traveling system. Unlike models like Graco, it has adjustable handles. I didn't want to hunch over, either. As the ladies said before me, it really is a blessing for us tall folks :)

thrilledfirsttimemomma! - 40 hours ago
Myself and my man are about the same height as you guys and we have ordered the Maxi Cosi Mura 4, the handle bar adjusts to a height that is perfect for him and it is only one button on the bar to make it a bit lower for me which is really easy, and also it is a great pram, it has won Baby Product of the Year and things, so well worth looking into! I love the colours too...

My sis got my stroller from walmart, its a babytrend and they had an adjustable handle for tall or short people. I am about 5'8 and hubby is 6'0 it will work good with us. And they arent that expensive either.

I see someone beat me to it! Chicco (prounonced 'Key-co') has a fantastic stroller...the Cortina. We were very unhappy with the Graco we had when our daughter was born, so we 'test drove' a bunch this time, and this is by far the best we found. My husband is 6-4 and the adjustable handle is key...plus, it's sleek frame has room so he isn't always kicking the stroller as he walks.
Chicco tends to be on the price-ier side...but we were so impressed with the stroller's features that we went for it.
The infant carrier / car seat that is compatable with the stroller (Chicco Key-Fit 30) is one of the only seats rated for up to 30lbs and up to 20 inches...the rest don't come anywhere near that...so the baby will be in it longer.
Good luck!

Strollers...check out Chico. I'm sure other brands do as well. They have a handle bar that you can push buttons on the side and adjust up and down. I'm 5'10" and my husband is 6'2" and we found that this one was pretty comfortable for both of us during our store test.

about the swollen feet etc... i get them at the end of the day as well. My midwife said that after my evening walk, instead of standing more.. to sit down on the couch and elevate my feet..

I also sleep w/ a pillow under my feet for elevation.. it works pretty good! But the exercising really works... i think if i wasnt walking everyday, my legs would look like stumps everyday!!

I'm a nursing student and that sounds like some stupid insenitive thing we would all joke about. Nursing/Medical often joke about horrible stuff as a way of dealing with it. Its so hard to see some of the stuff we have to see. If it were me... Once I realized I upset you I would be very sorry and apologize.... AND MEAN IT! She shouldn't have treated you that way.

loveatfirstbump - Tuesday, 15 April
It would have gotten on my nerves too. The instructor should have known better than to say those things in front of you. What ever happened common courtesy? Geez!

shk0910 - Tuesday, 15 April
I think that was definitely some hormones but a nursing instructor should know better. That conversation shouldn't have happened in ear shot of anyone else. I should know, I'm a nurse. I don't think you were wrong in feeling the way you did.

Yeah, his name seems to change every day
Gato, Senior Furry Pants, Spike, Catania.
He might have a small identity crisis, but he is old and cool as hell.

I have one 3 year old cat and I would be very interested in what you learn about introducing the pets to baby. She has been around only one baby and seemed to only be curious but this is our first and right now the bedroom is set up and we only let her in there when we are in there. She has already tried to jump in the crib and we discipline her, just by speaking sternly and she usually listens, But when the actual baby comes I dont know what to do.

I have two cats as well that I would never be able to part with (unless there was a clear danger to my child!) They are both super friendly with everyone... but I would love to hear what you find out at the class if you are up for sharing!

Thanks, I am very thankful that she did not come! I would have lost it. She knew it, so she decided to bake a little longer! How are you doing by the way?

shk0910 - Tuesday, 1 Apr
You are not alone. I have a child in private school b/c the school system we are in SUCKS. Then I'm gonna have a child in day care as well. I work full time and am going to have to go back to full time after the baby comes. It just isn't fair. How do these people do it?

chastin - Tuesday, 1 Apr
yes! I know what you mean worrying about daycare! I have my daughter in daycare now and then putting the new baby in will be over $1100 a month. We really cant afford for me to quit working but at the same time that is ridiculous!! so we are still conteplating on what other options we can come up with if anything else will work! It is very scary to think we wont be able to afford it but I thought that with my daughter when I first put her in and you just kinda get use to it being a regular bill you pay!

Don't feel bad, I have dandruff too!! So weird how many ways pregnancy can affect your body! I also use vinegar...but the apple cider kind. I spray it on my scalp (like saturate my head pretty much) before I go to bed and let it soak in overnight. Then just wash your hair normally in the morning. The smell is a little annoying, but it's worth it in my opinion. It feels really soothing and after you do that a couple of nights (in a row if possible), it really gets a lot better. Good luck! Hope that helps!

junglebaby - Monday, 31 Mar
i have been having the worst dry scalp and i have tried everything i use vineger to get it out just use white vineger and spray it in your hair let in dry it takes just a few minutes and then wash ur hair it helps remove it all then i use a hyrdrating shampoo and a deep conditioner/hair mask a few times a week it seems to help i still get it but its not nearly as bad

pregnanthairdresser - Monday, 31 Mar

Oh, my!! I heard that song the other day, and I just boo-hooed!!! I know I won't miss having empty arms (especially after two years of trying), but I was more thinking of what I would be one day saying to our little girl or boy!!! What a well-written, thought-provocative song! He is awesome!

For your question about breastfeeding, this will be my first and I am plannng to breastfeed. I am a postpartum nurse so most of my job is actually helping moms and babies learn to breastfeed. While breastfeeding definitley can have it's challenges, the benefits far far outweigh any inconvienince. I think pregnancy and delivering a baby are a good comparison since they too are not always easy, but definitley worth it. I have done a lot of research on breastfeeding and I really encourage you to do the same. You can find most anything on the internet these days. I would look at American Academy of Pediatrics paper on breastfeeding, lookat what the World Health organization has to say and look into LeLeche League in your area. Here is another good website http://www.4women.gov/breastfeeding/index.cfm?page=home And finally I did a reasearch paper on cultural acceptance of breastfeeding and found an interesting study about men and brestfeeding. It basically showed that the men that worried about the interference of breasteeding with sex, were the men that just didn't know about all the benefits there wives and children would get from breastfeeding. Anyway, sorry to ramble on! It's just a very important decision! Blessings!

Thanks for the comment. I was so stressed about switching, but I know it was the right choice. I never got a 'warm & fuzzy' feeling from the old doctor, and the more I analyzed, the more I realized that he wasn't talking to me! I had to ask for any info I wanted!
Good Luck!

Hi becky
Im sorry this a little bit weird but you sound like you know what your talking about. I havent had my b/p done for a couple of weeks but the last two times i did they were both 100/60 the doc said that it is a bit low but is it ok? any ideas?

soulmama - Tuesday, 18 Mar
As for changing your ob, I say go for it. I changed mine at 15wks and I have not regretted it.

babymakes4 - Tuesday, 18 Mar
my ob stinks he is one of the TOP 100 OB'S IN PHOENIX AREA but he is as old as my grandparents and treats me like a mental patient when i ask questions.. I called the office at 18 weeks because i had a migraine for a week and fainting spells and high blood pressure and he gave me a persciption for vicadin.. I would never take a narcotic while pregnant is he crazy..and it is known to raise your blood pressure and mine was already high.. I hate his bedside manner and i have thought about switching but because he is 2hrs away & since i live in a small town and I dont know that many obs in the city and this one was my sil'S I CANT BELIEVE SHE EVER LIKED HIM ENOUGH TO see him through all four kids she has.. I also deal with bits of negativity from him that i can feel for bein an older mom to be and i dont think i deserve it.. he is gettn paid a lots to b a catcher here in a couple months and 2 see me for 5 minutes here and there...
