Birth Story:

I went in to be induced at 7:00 in the morning, however, there were two sets of twins being born at the same time, so my husband and I just hung out until about 9:30. At 9:30 the dr. started a pitocin drip. Contractions started (According to the monitor) but I felt nothing. At noon, the dr. came back and broke my water. About 1 that afternoon, I started to really feel the contractions, and at 5:48PM after only 10 minutes of pushing, my baby boy was here. (With no epidural) He is just beautiful. I am so thankful for this gift from God! We named him Elisha like Elisha out of the Bible who got a double portion from the Lord, and Elisha means "God is my salvation." Children really are a gift from the Lord!

The benefits are mostly the same as during the first year, increased immunities from you so that he won't be sick as often and if he is sick it won't be as bad and won't last as long as if he wasn't still breastfeeding. Also it is nutritionally far better than cows milk as your milk is specifically catered to what your son needs as far as calories and fat content are concerned and results in optimum brain development. Breastfed babies are in all studies more advanced socially and academically and this is increased the longer you breastfeed, in a lot of the studies it was up to two years that provided the most benefit. Toddlers can definitely be picky eaters and I loved that you said that you were going to make sure he was eating well before you did wean him. The US actually is one of two nations that quit breastfeeding at a year. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends nursing for a minimum of two years, and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) advises the same. Definitely do what feels right in your heart and don't let anyone pressure you into doing something that you don't want to, including me! A lot of Mom's that nurse past the first year will only nurse in the morning and at night, which if you are having supply issues maybe that is a good solution for you. You can definitely add in cows milk or soy milk and three meals a day so that a lot of his nutrition is coming from solids and then whatever is lacking will be made up with the extra breast milk. Does your husband want you to stop at a year? I asked my husband how he felt about it and explained that people might have an opinion because it's not all that common here and he said that it's our baby and we can do what we want. It actually surprised me that he was so supportive, I hope that he doesn't change his mind later!

You just do what ya gotta do, and know that you won't be this sleep deprived forever, I guess - right?=) They each woke up 2 times last night, so I just rotate them out of the bed with me and the hubby!

Thanks for the advice. I also had a lot of plugged ducts with my son. But this was the first time I've had one since my daughter was born. I don't remember it being so painful! I finally got it cleared out. If it happens again, I'll definately try a warm bath.
