Hello! My name is Taryn and I am currently pregnant with my second child, but my fourth pregnancy. I miscarried at 8-9 weeks in May of 2000. We named it Morgan because we don't know if it was a boy or girl. I lost my second at 23 wks in Dec. of 2000 and named him Thomas Hunter. The dr. isn't entirely sure why that happened. It could've been because of premature labor, or an incompetent cervix, or an infection I didn't even know about! Well, three years later I got pregnant again and had a wildly successful pregnancy and now have my little Ethan- who is now three and a half. Since Ethan's pregnancy was perfect- they expect this one to be also.

About this pregnancy...

We weren't planning on gettting pregnant until this next June. But I truly wanted to be surprised! I obsessed over Ethan's conception and took the fun out of it. I'm a little obsessive to start with, so I was completely shocked to discover I am pregnant again. I stopped tracking my cycles (due to obsession) but still knew when was safe and when I should start. I can't believe God pulled this off. I think a surprise pregnancy is the best gift ever (when ready for kids).

How we found out...

My period was late, but it frequently is because I'm not on the pill. My boobs hurt- but that's normal just before my period. But, sometimes I test just to put my mind at ease. So after my sister's birthday dinner, I grabbed some tests and headed home. My husband worked late that night, but was home when I got there. So while he got our son ready for bed, I went and took the test. He didn't know I was late or was testing. I was absolutely floored when I got a +. Still can't believe it. But, I couldn't tell him until our little one was in bed- so I went for a drive to figure all this out- you know, how do you pay for two in daycare, where will we put the baby in a two bedroom house? I got this all figured out in 20 or so minutes- I'm a problem solver. So, when I got home, I made him turn off the TV because I had something to tell him. He's not the kind of guy to jump around the room, or shout for joy. But he was surprised- and a little doubtful. He wanted me to retest in the morning and of course it was +. I know he's excited and loves being a daddy and having Ethan. Pregnancy is scary for him because of our past and babies may frighten him because Ethan was a colicky train wreck. But he loves his boy- I couldn't hand make a better daddy.

This is the last one...

So were having fun with it. Of course, I can't keep a secret so we told everyone right away. Besides, after loosing two, I know that I want everyone to have time to love the little guy in case something happens. We told our family in different ways. With my husband's mom and father in law, we had a dinner of baby keishes, baby carrots, and a salad of baby greens. She still didn't get it, so I fashioned crescent rolls to look like diapers and cooked them during dinner. Then, she got it. If not, I'm sure the Big Brother Brownies we had for dessert would've worked. She nearly cried- but couldn't rejoice too much because Ethan doesn't know and won't know for a long time. For his dad, we asked him how many grandchildren he had and if he would like one more. He's a no frills type a guy. My mom and I shop all the time so I led her to the maternity section absent mindedly- like. She wondered if I knew where I was, but asked me if I had something to tell her- and I did! My sister has been nagging me for years for another child, so I gave her a + pregnancy test as a belated bday gift (I found out I was pregnant on her birthday). My niece is 15 and once asked my if I was preggers. So I texted her "I'm preggers!" For my dad, I wore a maternity outfit stuffed to look like nine months. This was the most fun I've ever had sharing my news.

Jan. 25, 2008- We saw our sweet baby jumping around today on the sonogram. We are clearly having a boy!!

August 2008- Way over due to update. My second son was born on June 30, 2008- the day after his big brother's birthday! It was a fast labor, but like pregnancy, it was slow going through it, but fast in retrospect. It is a lot of work having two kids, I don't know how people handle more. But I love it, nevertheless.

How`s my pregnancy doing?

So excited - I just bought a 4ft tank set up today, well, bought a couple of bits and pieces at a local aquatics store and the rest I ordered online... I can't wait for it to arrive!! Just dying to get it all set up and start planting it out (my fave bit) and then adding the fish once the plants have established and the tank has cycled.. One of my many, though more expensive, 'projects' to keep me occupied... Honestly, was only my 4th day on maternity leave today and it's so boring! Very lonely with noone to talk to.. It's a pain because my son is at school and I have to collect him at 3:05 so I;m pretty limited as to what I can do and where I can as we live a little way away from shops and friends - and I have to bus it since Scott takes the car to work and i just can't be arsed with buses at all.. and I definitely won't be in the mood in the latter stages.. Hmph. Hope you're all doing well, bumps growing, BDing like rabbits for those TTC!!

I had tests done but was told there was nothing wrong. THey said I need to be less anxious - easy for them to say! Anyway, I'm calm this time and thinking nothing but positive thoughts. I had nausea with my first pregnancy where I got to 10 weeks but not with the other 2 so I am welcoming any sickness with open arms!

well.. im getting there. its really hard to get stuff i need. ive found prgrams that are helping me. im getting a carseat tomorrow i have a little bit of clothes. some people at my chruch are going to take me shopping for a whole bunch of baby clothes this weekend. and with the exception of hand-me-downs from my brothers son. and mentally, i am completely prepared. i have one pair of shoes. i have 4 baby blankets. my cousin had a son a few months ago. he is giving me his bassonette sumtime this week with the clothes he already grew out of. so im going to prepared here in a week lol.. my family r great! the only 2 people that r mean to me about it is my younger 14 yr old sis and my older 24 yr old is(which got prego wen she wuz 16) and yet she still discriminates me.. its ok tho. my mom is behind me 100% the father is supporting me too.. he cnt wait to be a dad. and we r still together. we r engaged.. but i told him im not guna get married until im at least 21 n he sed he is ok with that. so.. im not having such a hard time with this.
i do wish people would except me as a mother and not an 'irrespinsible teenager' who accidentally got pregnant.. u kno? lol srry 4 such a long message.

minkymoo78 - Tuesday, 6 January

Thank you for the advice Taryn! Some people have told me that this is normal and that my cervix may just stay a fingertip dilated until term. What worries me is that it was closed completely a month ago so I wonder if this is the sign of something imminent. The doc said that she wasn't able to put her finger all the way through but was not able to tell just how thin my cervix had gotten. Hence the need for the US measuring the cervical lenght. She said that if it had shortened then we would look at meds and bedrest. So far no symptoms. But I've been having Braxtons alot since about 16 weeks. The US is this Friday...seems like eons away....Thanks again for your concern. So Sweet!

Anesha - Tuesday, 6 January
Thank you so much for the vote of confidence! That is where I am trying to get mentally. I am trying to prepare myself and my husband for natural birth. I have him helping me do perineal massage [I am sure that is spelled wrong] and he was trying to imagine a head passing through and he says" You sure you don't want to just have another c section?" Its comments like that that I don't need in the labor room so I am telling him repeatedly to please support this decision although he doesn't want to see me in this pain. He is a good guy but he doesn't understand why I would want to hurt. So I am working on his thinking and understanding as well as myself.

Sorry I posted that twice - but if you think I'm going to each and every one of your profiles and deleting the second one - you can forget it - I'd be here for agges lol

I've created a nursery rooms section of the nursery so far. There are things in there that won't be in before Zach arrives and also we havent put the shelves up, or any of the other decorative items in that'll really finish it off. We're also replacing the carpet before he arrives as well, so it'll look a bit more polished when we're finished - but that's one of my projects whilst on maternity leave :)
