Hi everyone!

WE HAD THE BOYS! THEY WERE BORN AT 36 1/2 WEEKS VIA C SECTION ON 4/30/08 at 5:47/ 5:48. CHRISTIAN PAUL HUGHES WAS 6'1 lbs and NICOLAS GERALD HUGHES WAS 5' 12! BOTH BOYS WERE HEALTHY AND DIDNT NEED TO GO TO THE NICU SO WE WERE VERY BLESSED! THEY ARE DOING GREAT AND GETTING SO BIG ALREADY! ALMOST UP TO 7 LBS AND ONLY HOME FOR 2 1/2 WEEKS!!!!

About me: This pregnancy was a total shock for us ( with twins) because my last two pregnancies ended with two losses. One at 18 weeks due to a placenta abruption and low amiontic fluid and the other one was very early a "chemical pregnancy". We felt very lucky, b/c we were able to conceive our first two pregnancies immediatley ( I am talking first try each) but then we started having difficulties and it took some time to conceive this pregnancy.

After the two losses we went through alot of testing and blood work and saw many specialists to find out why this has happened twice. After all the blood work, surgery to remove some polyps in my uterus that I never knew I had, our doctor put me on the lowest dose of klomid. I conceived twins! Oh my gosh..twins ???? I didn't feel like it was real at first but I know it was a true blessing of God. We were so shocked and so excited! It has been a long emotional road but feeling really good and blessed to be having a healthy pregnancy.

Looking forward to connecting to others that are going though the adventures of a twin pregnancy!! Oh.. and we are having Twin Boys and due in May, with great hopes in making it to at least 36 weeks.

1/21/08- 22 Weeks- These past two weeks I have seen amazing growth with the babies and my belly. They have been moving and kicking and we have been able to really feel them from the outside! Last week I had to go to hospital twiice for observation for stomach tightening and smaller contractions. I wasn't really sure that was the new sensation I was feeling but unfortuantely, it was. So they just gave me IV fluids and said to take it easy. I am still having them but not as frequent, they called it uterine irritibility for the smaller ones and said to drink...drink...drink....! The babies were great and my cervix measured very long thank god at 4.7-4.8 so I was totally okay. I just have to limit my excerise and make sure I lay down with my feet up when it starts. I saw my OB/Gyn after that and he Dx me with a case of PUPPPS. It is a rash- spread all over that looks like measles. I guess very common in pregnancy- especially multiples. It is just really irriatating and itchy! Its hard to sleep with it. I have been takiing Aveeno baths, hydro cortisone cream and calomine lotion for it. We see our perinatologist next week to measure cervix again and make sure all is going well. We have had to see her every 4 weeks since I conceived and it is a extra measure of safety- and of course it helps me with my anxieties just knowing there are an extra set of medical eyes watching us closely. Other than the Puppps and contractions, I have been feeling pretty great- still have alot of anxieties from what happened in my last pregnancy at 18 weeks but keeping my hopes high and resting alot this pregnancy!

Weight gain so far up to this point- 18 pounds!

1/27/08- 23 weeks- We went to the perinatalogist on Thursday and they did another detailed ultrasound. I think this is probably like our 15th ultrasound. I couldnt believe how big the boys are getting. They were moving around like crazy and we saw one wind up, put his hand in a fist and swing at his brothers face! He the one who I think is going to be fiesty!

My cervix still measured good at 4.6 and baby A weighed 1 pound and baby B weighed 1 lb 3 oz. The doctor did reduce my activity level one more time, but said I was not on bed rest just wanted me to become the ultimate couch potato because of the uterine irribility and contractions I seem to get when I am up doing things. I already feel like I don't do to much because I don't work. Feel like I am getting so freaking fat because of my lack of excercise, I know it shouldnt matter but let me tell you. I hate not being able to excercise on a regular basis and can't stand how my legs, arm and back have turned to mush and rolls! I don't mind my belly getting huge- I expected that but rolls on my back..... anyone else ever feel that way??

Still have Pupps, this past week it spread to my back and legs. It drives me totally insane. I mean really INSANE! Doctor gave me a topical cortisteriod this week to put on it twice a day to keep it under control so I am trying that but haven not been sleeping because of itching. I was alittle paranoid that it would hurt the twins but both doctors and pernilogist said that it wouldnt as its just applied to my skin and not taken orally. I just want to be able to sleep! Well... I guess the twin boys are just preparing me for my lack of sleep for whats to come in a few months..HA! HA!

1/28/08 - Oh boy- today the boys were really active all day and moving around. It was the best feeling in the world.I could actually see my belly move, I can't even imagine what it will be like in another month or two! I am now officially able to rest my bowl of cereal on my belly like a shelf. Felt pretty good today, overall a good day- only one small contraction.

2/06/07- Last night was so long! I couldnt fall asleep until 4 Am, it seems to happen more and more, not sure if it is anxiety about everything or if it is from growing discomforts. I just know that about 3 am, I felt like I was going nuts and had a hormonal meltdown! I hate when that happens because I know stress isnt good for my little boys. Husband was awesome about it and just tried to help me relax to calm down, thank god i have his support!

On a lighter note- I must be getting the big belly because last night I was in a little boutique shop and my husband was outside sitting on the bench waiting with our dog. He said a couple walked by the shop and the wife was pregnant and said to her husband' Do I look that big' and she was pointing to me!!! I can remember saying that about 8 weeks ago to my husband! We had a good laugh about it. But seriously, the past week I feel like I am really getting huge, my belly actually hurts from the growth and is achy. Still having contractions and braxton hicks.

2/14/08 - 25 weeks- This week I havent been able to do too much as I am still having contractions if I am up for more than a hour or so on my feet. But babies are doing good, went to gyn last week and heartbeats and movements were good. He checked my cervix and still is in great shape so that is really encouraging! We took our tour of the hospital which was interesting and have started the classes. This week we are taking baby care basics class! Sleeping still totally sucks and I am averaging about 2-3 hours total a night due to aches, itching and insomnia, BOY DO I MISS MY SLEEP ALREADY!

2/17/08- Oh my gosh- today was so funny! My husband and I went to a "Basics of Baby Care" class and as part of the class they give you a doll(infant) and instruct you : "Now you are responsible for this infant- you can't put it down on the table, you must care for it during the entire class..even if you go to the bathroom..you have to make arrangements to care for your infant! "

Well when they found out we were having twins we had two babies for the WHOLE class! It was so funny because we couldnt switch, or couldnt get a break like the other couples. I just sat there and looked at my husband and keep laughing because it was like reality setting in and this was only 4 hours! We did learn some great things though!

2/18/08 26 weeks- Yes, yes yes...got a great night sleep last night! I feel so great today, I swear sleep is the miracle drug when your pregnant! My husband and my dog were kind enough to sleep in the guest room last night and I got to just spread out with all my pillows..it was awesome. I feel really bad that he had to sleep in the guest room...but.....I really needed that sleep. Poor guy, we have 10-11 more weeks to go.... and I am like a big Bear trying to go into hybernation with all my pillows at night. My " Pupps Rash" a.k.a. pregnancy rash has finally cleared..yipee!

2/19/08- Had alittle scare last night. Went to Target to look at baby stuff and started to have contractions again in the store. But this time they really hurt which normally they dont. Then when I was getting ready for bed and went to bathroom had some spotting. Freaked us out because last time we started to see blood like this lead to more progressive bleeding and eventually my previous pregnancy loss. So we "tried" to remain calm until talking to doctor. He said spotting can be very normal from time to time in pregnancy- especially twin pregnancy but he had us go over to L/D to get monitored and check Cervix just to be safe. Great news...the little blood was nothing- just a one time thing that can happen from time to time in pregnancy and my contractions had stopped. My cervix measured great again- yahooo...a 4.6 same as a month ago! So when we left I was on cloud nine my babies were fine!

2/21/08 - Today my husbands work threw us a baby shower! It was so nice of them and I couldn't believe all they did for us! They really went out of their way to make us feel special and we got so many great things that we really needed- especially with twins! I am so grateful and I feel like people just really go out of their way to help you when you are having twins! All in all - today has been a great day- feeling good. I actually took to time and energy to blow dry my hair out - which seems like a rarity since I have been pregnant- ha! ha! Our Ultrasound appt got moved until next week- was alittle bummed about that.

2/27/08- 27 weeks - Had sono today and it went great! The boys weighed 2 lbs and 10 oz and 2 lbs and 7 oz! Fantastic weight for 27 weeks! My cervix was still measuring 4.5 so that was a relief. The babies were even practicing their "fake" breathing and we saw their diaphrams moving! They were- as always- having a boxing match with each other! Way to funny! Also did my glucose test, drink wasn't as gross as I thought it would be! Been feeling great past few days!

3/09/08- 29 weeks- Last Sunday night my dad who was only 55 had a massive sudden heart attack and went on life support as he was in a vegative coma the past six days. He died yesterday. I think I am in totally shock as it happened so fast and unfortunately he didn’t pass very peaceful. I am utterly heart broken and just sicken by this, can’t believe he is actually gone. All I can think about is how excited he was for these little twins to come and how he was excited to be their part time nanny. I am sad i never had the chance to take him to an ultrasound to see his grandsons. I just wish I could hug him one more time. I know I have to get through this for the babies.

3/25/08 - 31 weeks- today we meet with doctors for scan and it went great. Baby A was measuring 4 lbs and 10 oz and baby B was 4 lbs 3 oz! We were shocked and amazed at their growth, especially with all my contractions. No dilation in or out so things are progressing right along. Both babies are head down and dropped lower. I am in great hopes now to make it to 37 weeks~ I would love to have 6-7 pound babies! I am pretty uncomfortable right now and always out of breath but it is so worth it, especially with great news like today! I have gained now a total of 36 pounds and feel huge!

4/02/08- 32 weeks- we were in hospital twice on Saturday. We went to our breast feeding class and i starting having contractions- 5 minutes apart. They were alittle more painful then usual. They gave me 2 shots of terbutulane and a oral RX of it to take home for contractions and a anitbotic. So far, so good since i have been home. Having contractions but not dilating as of yet. We go back to doctors tomorrow for check up. Feeling just tired and miserable from being so big! I can't wait to hold these little babies and bring them home, only a few more weeks!

4/10/08- 33 weeks and 5 days -Went to the doctors yesterday for check up. I will be 34 weeks Sunday, my cervix was still high and strong, no indication of dilation. Blood pressure was great but gained 3 pds this week. Dr. said that schedule C Section in 3 weeks for week 37 and if I should start laboring after 35 weeks, he would just go ahead and do the C Section then and at 35 weeks I can stop taking the terbuline for contractions- Hating this medicine but its keeping contractions at base so these little boys can stay in there longer. Started having a HEAVY Pressure on pelvis today, near vagina and actually hurts like if someone kicked me there or bruised- my sister assures me its normal end of pregnancy, babies head resting on pelvic bone. But as of tonight I started walking bow legged as it hurts- just so weird. Anyone else have this????? Does it go away? I feel like these last few weeks I have become a blobbering mess with complaints- poor dear husband!

4/21/08- 35 weeks- I thought I had updated last week but I guess I forgot to save it! We went to both doctors last week and Baby A weighed 5 lbs and 6 oz and Baby B weighed 6 lbs! We were really happy with those weights at 34 weeks! Unfortunately my Dr said he wants me to stay on the medicine terbuline until at least 36 1/2 weeks if possible then I can go off it. I was bummed as I thought last week he said we could go off it at 35. We went to hospital yesterday because I had some swelling and headache this weekend. They did a preclampsia /liver panel and it turned out okay but I was still having contractions ( strong ones) 5 minutes apart! So I got another shot of terbuline and that slowed it but doctor said at hospital if I had been dilated he would of done the C Section yesterday! No such luck!!! I know I need to be patient and let the boys grow and cook for the next two weeks, but the aches and pains of twin pregnancy is crazy at the end!!!! Start the biweekly NST tomorrow!

My big dilema the past few days has been the decision of circumcision...aghhh what a hard choice when you are on the fence with it!!

4/25/08- 35 weeks and 5 days- This week has been torture! We have had three appts and at every appt the main thing is I am having contractions 3-5 minutes apart continuiously! Today at my NST, the babies were great, all test were great but I was having contractions 3-5 minutes apart nonstop. Some were painful and took my breath away and some were not a big deal at all. Well, no dilation at all! AGGHH. Cervix is softening and doctor doesnt think I will go much longer, basically sent me home, said if they get more painful and intense to come back but no C Section until either dilation or I hit 37 weeks ....so basically I have to just deal with contractions 3-5 minutes apart. Everyone that I talk to usually when their contractions get to 3-5 minutes apart regularly it does something to cervix and they go into labor...I just dont get this. I know its awesome for the babies to harvest a few days more but come on I am so drained from the contractions. ...my poor husband, dealing with my moodiness and snappiness! I am trying so hard to keep it under control and be pleasant and nice but then its like a demon comes over me and I snap at the littles things, hormones I guess because when it happens I hear myself and think " who is this person" and I try to shut up but...it just comes out!! Poor guy .. he needs to enter Sainthood for dealing with me right now!

Hello,

I'm so glad to see your pictures! Finally someone with twins showing their growth. I am also pregnant with twins and look like you do/did. Yet I keep seeing all these pics of girls that look like they're just bloated, talking about they are 19 weeks, etc. I keep thinking, I know I'm having two, but what's normal?? Thanks for showing some real pics.

* Elizabeth Rain And Delilah Roses Mommy * - Monday, 18 Feb
congratulations.

Proud-Mama-of-5 - Sunday, 17 Feb
My belly is getting BIG! Now people are really starting to notice. The boys still haven't used all their space but my belly isn't looking as funny. Your weight gain seems right around normal for twins cause I've gained a total of 25 lbs as well. All baby hopefully! Is everything else going well?

I am starting to have some sleepless nights now from the feeling of a stretching belly. How are you sleeping?

Anyway, have a good day!

MissZazy - Sunday, 17 Feb
Hi,
nice to see that you have updated and all is going (relativly) well. I hope the itches aren't driving you too insane. The baby class story sounds good, i am not sure how i would cope!! hhahaha
Hope things continue to go well

Thanks for the nausea info. I get a day or two of a break now and then and they are back. I thought it all was in my head, so it is a big releif to hear that this is how it went for you too. I thought when the m/s was over it just instantly stopped. I din't know it was gradual. YaYY!! I have hope! Then I am really getting better!! YAYYY!! I just can't tell you how much I appreciate that info. Thanks! That sounds like a fun class. It is fun to think of what we are in for!! I went to the library today and got a buch of twin books. This is going to be sooo fun! Take care!!

buninoven - Saturday, 16 Feb
I loved reading your page!!!!! Is this what I am in for??? I am excited and scared all at the same time. That is really full of good information. I learned a lot from your page. Thanks!! The ob told me that I could take unisom for my nausea if it was keeping me up all night. Maybe you should ask your OB if you can take it to help you sleep too. One of the girls I work with swore by it at the end of her prego when she was bigger and uncomfortable. You might want to ask. :) It is so nice to have other people here to be the tour guides of this adventure. I'll take all the help I can get so if you think of anything I might be missing, let me know. Good luck to you and Best wishes!!! :)

hi jody, hope you are managing to get more sleep. i dont know how im going to survive if i cant sleep. ive started to wake up around 5 am, having really vivid dreams. i must be a really deep sleeper though because my husband generally wakes in the middle of the night and feels the babies kicking like mad - i dont wake up!
i feel really good right now. i do look like a budha! ive been really enjoying work, the kids are all looking after me and doing great work. at the end of the day i feel uncomfortable and have a really tight stomach. we have a weeks holiday now so im looking forward to some lazy rainy days in with my 4 year old. have you got a date for your c-section? any names yet? i quite like brooke (girl or boy) Alfie, Molly, lawrence (laurie for short) Brianna, Lots of ideas but no real definates. think we will be calling them baby 1 and 2 for a while. do you have a bump name? we call ours gertrude and alwyn - we love looking at peoples reaction when they think we might actually call them that. not as bad as our first boy (ptolome)! keep taking good care of yourself.
Lara

AmyJ - Friday, 15 Feb
I had my OB appt. yesterday. I gained two pounds, so now just 4 pounds under my pre-pregnancy weight. I haven't had any cervix checks yet. She will start checking that on the 28th. I go every two weeks now. At my US last week my specialist said my cervix was still long.
I feel like I am the only twin Mom not having contractions yet! Hey.....can't I get a break from work or what???
I have pain in the right upper part of my back and right upper part of my abdomen. Other than that it is OK. Sometimes I sleep well and other times I do not. Especially when my 8 year old son wakes up in the sometimes and gets scared upstairs all alone...so here he comes jumping in my bed between me and his Dad. I know that is bad to let him do that...but he comes in ..'I want to snuggle with my Mommy'...and I say...'Oh, my precious baby boy come see your Mommy'. You know that is not going to last much longer!!!
My OB told me at 32 weeks I will go to the Hospital to have a twin monitor belt hooked up to monitor the girl's HB's. I guess I have to wear it until delivery?? Has your Dr told you anything about that? Hope you get some much deserved sleep this weekend!!
Take Care. xxxAmyxxx

jennas-mommy-and-2-more-on-the-way! - Saturday, 9 Feb
I have been feeling fine! I think my body enjoys pregnancy. I had a really easy pregnancy with my daughter too. I have been having a little siatic (sp?) nerve pain. Aside from that I have been ok. I am getting really excited the closer I come. How have you been feeling? Do you have names picked out for them? How have you been feeling?

Proud-Mama-of-5 - Wednesday, 6 Feb
Do you have names picked out? I am 20 weeks with twin boys as well!! My husband and I can't seem to even agree on one name let a lone two, are you finding this to be an issue?

jennas-mommy-and-2-more-on-the-way! - Wednesday, 6 Feb
Hi that's so neat that we are only a day apart. I am gettig really excited! Are they thinking that your boys are identical? The doctors are pretty sure that my girls are ferturnal. I was so shocked when they told me. How about you?

AmyJ - Tuesday, 5 Feb
That is funny about the boutique. I have the opposite problem. I am bigger to begin with so people do not know I am pregnant unlesss I make it obvious like rubbing my stomach! On my last OB visit I was still 6 pounds below my pre-pregnancy weight, but I am sure I have caught up this month!
My son plays select ball and my husband bought me a shirt with the team name on it and ordered the biggest size they had (it was huge). I showed it to my son and he said... 'Finally Mom, a shirt that is too big for you!' He also told me I looked 8 months pregnant instead of 6!!! When he was about 3 years old he asked me if I had a baby in my tummy or was there just a lot of food in there!!
That is a good ? about the monitor. I've heard of a Mom having multiple babies getting one of those. Her OB ordered it for her, I believe. I hope your sleeping gets better. My DH is dealing with my hormonal issues as well!! Take Care!!!

larasbumps - Saturday, 2 Feb
hi. hope all is well with you. i had serious clothes issues yesterday. trying to get ready for work and all my maternity clothes in the wash. so i went to school in purple trousers, a long bright green top to hide the fact that the zip doesn't do up and my slobby grey cardigan that i laze about in. you got to laugh! went to midwife app on thurs and listened to two very strong heartbeats. great.

mumoftwinstobe - Thursday, 31 Jan
hi thanks for reply, i have fraternal twins to one which moves lot more then the other! when is your due date?

LisaAnn - Wednesday, 30 Jan
My little peanuts are doing well, starting to act up (I say that when I start to get nauseaus), Finally had m/s yesterday (first time, all others have just been nausea), so i'm hoping that's a good sign (increased bhcg meaning the little one is catching up). We are keeping our fingers crossed. My next U/S is scheduled for Valentine's Day, then I see the doctor the following tuesday. Very excited!!!!!

larasbumps - Tuesday, 29 Jan
hi jody, hope that all is well with all of you today. the hypnobirthing course was recommended to me by a friend but you can find it on the internet. i tried for you but only found the uk websites. it did originate in america so im sure you will find it. there are books if no one does it in your area. yes i am going to try to work for as long as possible so that i can have more time off after they are born. i am a drama teacher, teaching 11-16 year olds. i only work part time but it feels like i am there all the time. today i had lessons non stop so i am pretty tired now. the kids are great though. most of them are quite protective, making sure that i drink plenty of water while im teaching, bless them. my tummy feels really tight today. have you had to get many maternity clothes? ive bought one lovely outfit and a few baggy tops. my sister in law has lent me a pair of maternity jeans which are fabulous and i practically live in them. have you had any ideas on where you will sleep them? feeding? prams? take care of yourselves. lara

AmyJ - Tuesday, 29 Jan
That is great that your OB does scans too. My OB figures since I see the high risk Dr for those, she skips them!
I will let you know how the 4D scan goes on Friday and then I have a scan next week with the high risk Dr. I am anxious to see how much they weigh. They seem heavier!! Take Care. xxxAmyxxx

Hey there Twin-Boys-Mommy, thank you for checking in on me, how very sweet of you. Yes, I do still come to this site, if just to read or look up profiles of those sweet ladies I use to be in touch with. It's hard to believe that just last week I gave birth and lost my lil boy all at the same time but I'm doing well, copeing with the loss and I smile every day that think of him, instead of crying. My body has adjusted and already the bleeding (sorry if that is tmi) has stopped, which I jope is normal. I miss feeling him, even if I dont miss the everyday worry of pregnancy. he was my greatest blessing and though he only lived for so little time, I'll always be his Mommy and that comforts me. I see how much you've grown and I am so happy for you. I'm not quite sure how long we'll wait to try again...more than likely we wont try at all, like we did with Jaidon and just let nature take its course. Thank you for caring... I hope you're having a fabulous week, XOXOXO Sandy

AmyJ - Monday, 28 Jan
My 4D scan I had Friday was a bust!!! They said it was soooo hard to get twins. Body parts are everywhere and to get them both to cooperate is almost impossible. We would see one head and 20 fingers flying around! They will try one last time on Friday. After that they will be too crowded. They are hoping to get a pic of one at the best. They did give me a pic of each of them. I will post them later. Kennedy's pic is not very good. Harrison is worried that her nose is too big. He went to the scan, but was disappointed that we were not supplied with 3D glasses!
It sounds like you received a great report on your scan last week. How often are your scans? I hope you are feeling well!!
xxxAmyxxx

hi! thanks for the message. i hope your site (blog? i'm very new to this!) will inspire me to write more on mine. i'm still getting used to the near constant movement going on inside. in the last couple of days we have seen them from the outside. i can remember from my first pregnancy seeing feet and elbows stretching right out near the end but i cant imagine what it will be like with four arms and four legs! although i have been healthy, i have been very worried about the idea of carrying two. my mum was one of a twin but one was still born. everyone assures me that modern tech is so much better but still have nightmares. my husband and i have started a hypnobirthing course which has been great to alleviate some worries. its all about relaxing really - which im very good at! you seem to get a lot of scans which is good. we have had two so far. one at 12 weeks when we found out there were two and couldn't see much through the tears, then one at 20 weeks. that was amazing. an hour watching them. we have to wait 6 weeks for the next but the time is going so quickly it wont be long before we see them in the flesh! we decided not to ask what sex they are. it will be a suprise! have you thought of any names? have you made any plans? i have to go to work now but look forward to chatting with you more. lara

Thanks for the congrats on our twin boys. How exciting to have another mother having twin boys! I too have had slight uterine contractions, I found that taking 'Natural Calm', a magnesium supplement, stops them just minutes after consuming the drink. I read somewhere that Drs. use a magenesium (?) something to stop contractions. So I decided to try my supplement that I already had in my cupboard for the muscle twitches I experienced with Lyme Disease. And it works. So the first sign of tightening I immediately take a TBS which is approx. 600mg of magnesium. I hope this might help you too!

kirstin - Sunday, 27 Jan
Glad to hear you are doing a little better. I am having a boy so I'm happy now to have one of each!!
