July 9th

It's been so long since I updated this page! Time is flying by. I have now moved to North America from Hong Kong. I was trying to get Byron's 6 month shots completed before the move but unfortunately he had a slight sore throat the the ped said I should wait. Now I have to find him a ped ASAP to get his shots.

He's made incredible physical progress in the last couple of weeks and can now sit on his own. He's also almost crawling and rocks on his hands and knees. I think he will skip the commando crawl stage altogether.

Here's on if his sitting all by himself. I don't know whether to be proud of him or sad that he's growing up so quickly. The first 6 months just FLEW BY.

May 20th

I can't believe Byron is 4 months old already... I already miss the baby days! We went for his 4 month shots yesterday and he did really well. He barely cried and stopped completely when Daddy picked him up. He weights almost 16lbs and is 26.5 inches long! I am so proud of my big boy. He's running a mild fever right now but I'm pretty sure he will be all better tonight.

The little guy still doesn't sleep though the night though but I don't mind. I am just happy I can continue breastfeeding. The good thing is I am back to my pre-pregnancy weight and have to eat a ton just to maintain milk production.

May 1st

Wow I can't believe it's been over a month since I updated. Time really flies! The whole family's doing well and I am still loving every minute of mommyhood! I've been trying to take Byron out more often now and trying to figure out how to deal with naps and BF while we are out. It's getting a lot better and I find bringing a stroller instead of just a sling does make it easier for real naps in the day. However, I still can't get him to eat too much while we are out. If we are out for 5-6hr and he ate prior to leaving, he will only have a small feed while we are out. Maybe he's just too excited by all the new things. The only problem is yesterday he did that and ended up waking at 10pm to eat because I think he didn't get enough in the day. As he gets older I think it was be increasingly challenging to keep him entertained and stimulated. One of the good things is he seems to be getting into a schedule where he will take one BIG noon time nap instead of mini 30min naps throughout the day. I am always thrilled when he naps. I just know it's great for him to get lots of sleep.

Here's a photo of him after his first hair cut! It was getting into his eyes and we had to do something about all the hair:

Mar 24th

Today Byron rolled over twice from tummy to back on my bed but I think it's mostly due to the weight of him head LOL. It's been so much fun playing with him these past weeks. I also started going for more walks and hitting the gym once in awhile after he goes to bed (around 7pm). I feel must better going to the gym and it gives me more energy. My biggest complaint is still I have no time to do anything else other than spend time with the baby. I can't focus. Oh well... I love him to bits!

I wanted to type something else but mommybrain has already kicked in and i lost my train of thought....

Mar 3rd

I went to mommy baby yoga last Friday and it was actually a really good workout. The instructor has 3 kids and looks amazing. It was actually enough of a challenge to keep me going back! Today I went to the pediatrician to get Byron's 6 weeks shots (in Hong Kong we have 6 week shots and then 3 month shots). He cried for 30 secs and seems quite normal now. He just fell asleep and is napping happily. I hope he doesn't get a fever or anything :) The pediatrician said his eye colour is more or less set... so he will have grey/blue eyes! That's so cool so I have hazel eyes and didn't think he would get daddy's blue eyes. But he got a combo and it transitions form greyish green to bluish. He's 6 weeks and 4days now and weights 5.8kg / 12 lbs 12 ounces and is 58cm long! Oh, and I think I need to work out to get the rest of the weight off. Yoga seems to have worked and I've lost a pound.

Feb 28th

It seems my weight lost has completely stalled. I've been 115lbs for over a week now and it's not bulging. My pre pregnancy weight was 105lbs so I have 10lbs to go. I want to go to the gym and get out of the house but it seems so difficult with the baby. His schedule is not set so I am still working around him. Plus, it is so much fun playing with him now that he smiles all the time! I am taking him to mommy baby Yoga tomorrow but I doubt it's really much of a workout. Also, he seems to not be eating as much the last couple of days so I think that mean I am not burning as many calories. This box of Godiva chocolate sitting in from of me might also be contributing to the stagnation.... *sigh*

Feb 25th

Byron's almost 6 weeks and is weighing in at 12.1lbs and 23.2inches. He's quite the chubster! The last couple of days he's been giving daddy and me "real" smiles and it's just so wonderful. He's so much more interactive now... I'm really not going to get anything else done since I'm playing with him all the time.

(It's not the best photo but check out the hair!!)

Feb 10th

I can't believe it... another week and Byron will be a month old!!! Time is flying and everyday all I can do is stare at his sweet cuteness! At 2 week 5days he was already 10lbs so I am pretty sure he will be 11 lbs by next week! I go to a mommy baby class every Tues. and they weigh him there so I will find out in 2 days. At home I am constently covered in spitup and I don't think I've every been happier to be dirty and messy and spell like spit up :) I love the way he smiles when he finishes nursing and falls alseep on my breast. The joys of motherhood... I don't want my baby to grow up!!! But I guess every stage is amazing and I will be so proud of him as he gets older and reaches all the milestone moments. He's sleeping now and it's all I can do not to pick him up and cuddle him...

Jan 30th

I've been feeling a little emotional over the last few days. I guess it's the hormones kicking in. Byron's still adorable and I want to hold him all the time. However, he seems really content in his cot most of the time. He really is quite an indenpendent boy. I went to a mother baby class yesturday and it was nice to get out and chat with other moms. Byron was the youngest in the class! But I don't think he was the smallest :) I also bought a sling to carry him in but he doesn't seem to like it too much. I guess I need more practice. Here's a pic of Daddy and Byron getting ready for our mini outing last week to the grocery store...

Jan 28th

Today baby had his first checkup and he is doing wonderfully. He's 9lbs already! That means since we left the hospital he's put on 1.5lbs. He's quite the piggy :) I love him so much! And since I am only breastfeeding I don't have to worry about him gaining too much.

Jan 22nd 2008

I am so happy so happy so happy so happy about baby :) I just can't articulate the joy and love and warmth of this whole experience. Usually I am a cynical bitch :P But baby is so well behaved, eats well, sleeps lots and has quite awake time for mommy and daddy. He fusses once in awhile if he wants to be held but we are most happy to oblidge. My friend brought her 2 month old over the other day and I was shocked at how much bigger they get in that short time. Now I am constently taking pictures and truely treasuring every minute of newborn bliss. I know it's the hormones but sometimes I get sad just thinking about how quickly they will grow up (especially in the first year). Now I know why some peopel say babys are addictive... I could never imagine feeling this way... I am so overwhelmed with emotion :)

Birth Story

I just had my baby boy on Thursday the 17th at 1:21am. He weighed 8lbs and was 52 cm long.

My water broke on Wed at 3:30, checked into the hospital at 6am and sat around for the next 6 hours with no contrations. Doctor asked if I wanted to be induced and I said no after careful consideration. I really wanted a natural birth. I started having mild contractions around 3pm and went into active labour at around 6pm. After several hours and 5cm dilated I found the pain unbearable and asked for an Epidural. By the time the epidural took effect (they had to do it twice and give me a very strong dose since it didn't take the first time) I was 8cm dialted. At around midnight I was fully dilated.

I had a hard time pushing baby out so I ended up have a vacuum assisted delivery with a episiotomy. Not exactly the natural birth I imaged :) But it was worth every moment!!! I am so happy he is here. I checked out of the hospital on Friday night .

I wish all you mommies good luck :) It's a magical experience although very very painful physically.

IT'S A BOY!!

It's so wonderful to meet all you new mommies and to share the joy. It's my first so I'm very excited and everyone here is super friendly!

Jan 10th - 38 weeks... 11 more days to go! I can't believe it's almost over. I am quite surprise at how many people are being induced. I live in Hong Kong and the doctor never mentioned induction. I don't think they do it unless you are at least 10 day overdue or if the baby's in distress. I wish I would be early but the baby seems perfectly content where he is so... I'll just have to wait. Unforunately I can't really focus on anything else. I feel like a bobble head just sitting and standing around. I go out so I can walk around and hopefully that will help make labour easier. I have very mild contractions and they are never regular. Still, I am super excited and can't wait to meet baby! I hope he's cute... hahaha :)

Dec 17th - 35 weeks! Can't believe there'e only a month left... it feel SO FAR away haha... I am very excited but also tired of being pregnant at the same time. And according to the comments most other mommys are as well by this point. I feel like a stuffed turkey or a whale... but still happy nonetheless. Here a some pictures of the baby room!

Nov 15th - 30 weeks... I haven't gained any weight in the last 2 weeks but the belly keeps growing... OB said it's ok and baby's doing well... I can't wait for the baby AND to get my body back (although I am sure I will miss being pregnant as well)

Oct 30th - 3rd trimester!... I've put on 25lbs and feel huge!... can't believe I still have 2 and a half months to go...

Oct 5 - I feel like buddha!

I just had my 24 week checkup and the doc said everything's fine! It's do great to hear that baby's doing well. He has a big head and has already turnd upside down! He weights 724g or about 1.6lbs... my hubby was 10lbs when he was born so I guess I should expect a big baby.

Oct 4 - I think I am getting bloated! I woke up this morning and my face looked terrible. But it's hard to know if that's permenant or if I am just retaining a little water today. I hope I am not starting to get bloated already... still 16 more weeks to go! This has been a crazy week since I had a growth "spurt" over the weekend and my total weight gain is now 20lbs! I still look pretty normal though so I guess my belly is really growing. I could feel it stretching this week.

Hey! Sorry that I was MIA for so long. I am helping to organise a golf event and it will be held on this Saturday... which is why I am getting more nervous as Jasmine still REFUSE the bottle. I have bought her sippy cup and she seemed to like it better than bottle...at least she "plays" with it. I am running out of idea on what to try!! Anyway....... How was your mother's day? How is Byron? I just measured Jasmine's length myself and I am getting a bit worried that she isnt growing at all on her length for the past 2 months. She has been 63cm for THREE MTHS!!

I was thinking about making another appointment with the lactation consultant to see if some things have changed and may be she is stronger now and can latch on and breasfeed better than before. She had a sucking technique problem. She would do it wrong and get tired and frustrated. My breasts are pretty small and feel very soft and empty ;( I dont think that trying to squeeze more milk would help but only hurt :( Even this early mornign I woke up and they seemed really empty when before I would feel engorged in the mornings and have several let downs.. This morning I hardly pumped 1 oz!!! :( it makes me so sad... I give my baby formula so often now.. She got constipated and has not pooped for the last 35 hours.. My doctor said to wait and watch her closely.. Why hospital grade pumps suppose to work better>?

Happy Mother's Day!

I use Medela Pump in Style Advanced that pumps both breasts at once.

Hi! Thank you for the information about milk supply. Yes I heard many times I have to pump more often but I try and I still dont get more milk and it hurts :( Unfortunately my baby would not take the milk directly from my breasts. We tried everything ... our lactation consultants said to keep trying but after 2 months I decided to just pump and bottle feed. I will try to keep pumping more often rather than less. Thank you again. By the way you have a very cute baby :)

Thanks! Yes I always nurse in the same position.. I will try to switch it up, and look into the supplement... I was just curious as to why I was getting it in the same spot... but that makes perfect sense :oD

OMG, we've been going through the exact same thing with Ben! We tried cereal before bed but it didn't do a bit of good. And I know he's getting enough milk. The pediatrician felt it was because he's teething and said babies often re-set their schedules around this time, especially because they may be uncomfortable from the teeth trying to poke through. Some kids have a harder time with it than others. It's been going on for about a month for us, and it seems he's getting into more of a routine - it's just a different routine than the one he had before! He's also eating less now during the day. I've discussed it with a lot of women here on the site, and many reassured me that their babies eventually went back to a better sleep schedule. So we're hopeful :-)

oh my gosh how cute is your baby!! his hair is awesome and really he is adorible!! :) i am replying to your post on the forum about having him wake up at night all of the sudden... my baby did the same thing for about two weeks right after hitting four months (she is now almost 4.5 months) where she would go to bed around 8pm and wake up at 2am, 4am, and 6am and then be up at 8am, but has just stopped a couple nights ago and is back to sleeping all the way thru the night until 6am to eat and then back to sleep until 8am. ?? i dont know why she did it really, and just figured she might be growing again needed more food all of the sudden. anyway, hope that helps, good luck!

I do think that 3 is a good number too... I certainly believe that siblings make great friends in their adult years! My older sister is my best friend, and I couldn't imagine not having my little brothers!!! It's crazy how we can just fall in love w/ our little ones isn't it! I had my first child when I was 19...things were different for me then, both physically and emotionally, my body responded to pregnancy totally different this last time! I think it was telling me personally, it was ready to be done!! :) I have a lot of respect for you for wanting more than one!!! I think it will be a great advantage for all of them, however many that may be, for their entire lives!!! Who knows...maybe you will just enjoy motherhood so much you decide to have like 12 kids!! LOL LOL sorry..that is funny to me! LOL You enjoy your mother's day!!!

THANK YOU for the advice! I will try that! Your little 1 is sooo adorable!!!

lisareader - Tuesday, 6 May
We'd like to use cloth diapers but Benjamin is a spitter-upper, and we can barely keep up with the laundry - so we haven't taken the cloth diaper plunge because the thought of even more laundry is just too intimidating! But maybe when he's a little older and doesn't spit up as much.

lisareader - Tuesday, 6 May
Love, love, love your little guy's hair!!

swimmerbelly - Monday, 5 May
I think a while back you said that you use cloth diapers. We are considering using them, and I would love any advice you can give. We bought two to try them out - BumGenius and Bumpkins, so we could try a pocket diaper and an all in one. Let me know if you have any advice! Thanks
