A little background
I have two beautiful girls, Krysta 10 and Mollie 3, my husband and I found out we were pregnant sometime in October 2007 and we had a m/c in December our world was shaken but my faith was not. We found out in the beginning of Feb 2008 that we were expecting again and our world was worried and not sure what was going to happen. We are delighted to say we are now in our 13th week and all is going well so far. I did an intelligender test on the 9th March and it said we were having a girl but we will see I will feel better with an u/s confirmation.
I have had the first ultra sound which put us at 8 weeks and 5 days just 3 days behind where I thought I was. I have my next appointment with the midwife on the 23rd April 2008, and then my 20 week scan and then we have booked a private 4D scan in July and am really looking forward to everything. I am easy going and slow at getting more photos up and the time aspect also takes over there lol. I wish all of you ***BABYDUST*** who are trying and ***STICKYDUST*** to those who are pregnant and I wish you all the happiness in the world xoxox

How`s my pregnancy doing?

WOW, you have an awesome page!! I love the lay out you gave it. If only I were half as talented. hahaaha... anyway, I read your blurb about charlie horses... and TRUST ME, you'll know when you get one. :) For the strangest reason, I've been getting them in my big toes at least once a day. All of a sudden, my toe moves in a weird position and everything tightens up and causes a pain up my leg that is slightly painful but actually makes me laugh because you have no control over it. It's not that bad but some can be off putting. They don't last very long. I just try to stop my toe from pulling as it starts, if it's going to happen anyway, I just go with it and sometimes squeezing the bottom of my foot helps. I've also heard that if you get one in your leg, you can put your feet on a cold surface (don't know if that really works or not though). I'd mention it to your dr., if you start to get them a lot. I have seen meds in the drug store for charlie horses, but I don't know if they are safe to take while pregnant. Good luck, hope all is going really well.

leg/muscle cramps=Charlie horse

Ready2BMummy - Wednesday, 2 July
A charlie horse is a HUGE cramp in your calf... it stiffens up and you can't seem to move it! It's awful. Hope you never get one!

Great answer, thanks very much for that! lol I know it was kind of a silly question but it was something that was really starting to worry me, since I've had tons of little "signs" that labour is coming, but the baby hasn't dropped and my signs go away so quickly! Arrrg! Frustrating! lol

three-for-now - Wednesday, 2 July
omg! tummy cramps with runs.. I have had it for over 24 hrs now. I called the doctor twice and he said it was just my bowels. AHH>> my bottom is so raw!!! Best of luck with the problem! I am hoping I wake up tomorow and mine is gone. seeing I had to take today off work.

sharra - Wednesday, 2 July
Hi, are you eating anything that could be questional? Sounds strange, but does it feel like laboring pain? Keep drinking liquids to replenish whats lost. Did you call your doctor? Keep me posted.

i always think experience is the best teacher-qualifications are only a piece of paper so don't put urself down hun, i will definately be picking ur brains lol! when u say u do respite is it for kids with disabilities or others? my experience is more within disabilities and fotunately in this area things are really improving. i think a lot of that is to do with the fact that as a statutory agency we became a barnardos project before going bk into the council this august. the fact that we had the funding from barnardos meant that we were able to do alot more and go in slightly different directions. im lucky that my manager has a son with additional needs and therefore this topic is so close to her heart that she really fought for us but i have to agree the funding issues get me really fired up to! the money should BE THERE lol!
i will be keeping my fingers crossed for u re the house next door and wish u every luck!
my pregnancy is going well too thanks u...i have had a few minor problems...slight symphysis pubis disfunction which has improved a great deal and i think i have low iron as i am always so tired but apart from that all good :D lets hope we both continue on this path! only 13 weeks more! xxx

Hi Kat

How are things going? I hope that you have been better in the last week since you wrote. It sounds as though you have been having a bit of a hard time - especially with the pain that you were getting and the infection - not to mention your visit to the hospital. I hope all of that has passed now and that you are much better.

Joseph is a good choice of name. I like names that you can shorten, it means that you will be able to choose what you call him on a day-to-day basis. Either Joe, Joey or Joseph! I bet you are really happy to have settled on a name. It seems to make things a lot more real somehow.

I have had such a busy couple of weeks!!! Thank goodness things have calmed down a bit - we are back to normal this week! On sunday 22nd June Antony and I went to see Bon Jovi play at the Manchester city football club stadium. I managed to get a night away with him without the children also!! Although we have seen them play quite a few times now, this was probably the best concert of theirs I have been to and lived up to all expectations. Jon Bon Jovi is 46 now, but seemed to have the energy of someone half the age (I wish I had as much energy!) They played for 2 hours 45 minutes and the music was outstanding! It was very strange to be away from the children for so long (we haven't had a night away from them for over a year), but it was lovely to have some time alone with Ant. Somehow I think it will be the last time for quite a while (years even!!) with a new baby due soon - not sure Granny and Grandad will be quite so keen to have 3 children to look after!!!

While we were away for the concert Antony and I managed to have a short shopping trip to Meadowhall on Monday to buy the baby its 'first' outfit to wear in hospital when she is born. It was really nice to have the chance to do that bit of shopping together without any interruptions from the girls! We have chosen to play safe and bought a light yellow velour all in one suit (just in case the scan was wrong!) It is so cute, but looks so little!!

I was also away last weekend as I travelled to Sheffield straight after work on Friday 27th to visit a friend who I haven't seen for a couple of years. She had asked me to stay overnight, so I stayed at her house on Friday night and travelled back home in time for tea on the Saturday. We had a really nice day and evening together - we took her dog for a walk on Saturday morning and in the afternoon we went to have a look around the new library building where she works at the University. Even better - Antony had made a really nice meal for us to have for tea AND made some chocolate mousse!! I have decided that I should really spend more time away from him and the children as they obviously appreciate me more when I am not around!

In terms of preparing for the baby coming in October, I have finally managed to get some baby things out of the loft to start the process of sorting out what we have and what we may need to purchase. I came across the steriliser and bottles, sling, baby towels, sheets and bedding for the cot and the moses basket, plus all of the bags of clothes that we have kept. I spent quite some time on Sunday sorting through the various bags so that all of the baby clothes are now grouped according to age. I think we have plenty of 0-3 months things, but will probably need a few newborn items as I parted with quite a lot after Kate was born. I am going to start washing them ready to put away in some drawers.

There still seems quite a lot of preparation to do before October though! Only 14 weeks or so to go, seems quite scary!!

Hope you are OK. Speak to you soon, love Val x

You're so welcome, I hope it works. Breastfeeding definitely has it's downsides but it is so worth it when you consider how much better it is for your little one.

wow i was not aware that u guys were restricted to how long you can bf in public! in the Us we are aloud o bf in public as long as we please though I am sure people will give dirty looks if they see a mother nursing a 3 year old. i do not plan to nurse that long.I plan to wean her by a year or 18 months. i have never had to nurse in public actualy and my daughter is now 3 months old. I usually pump before we go somewhere or nurse int he car just because I am a little shy about feeding her in public. I was just kind of curious to know what happens if you bf a baby older than 6 months in public?

littlecavalier - Sunday, 29 June
I read your comment on the breastfeeding page and just wanted to share some tips. I have also struggled with thrush and what I do now is after nursing I wipe my nipples with a vinegar and water mix 50/50. I just keep a little container with it next to the chair that I nurse in and cotton balls. This has helped to protect my nipples even when my son gets thrush. There is also a vitamin, lecithin, which is suppose to help prevent plugged ducts and mastitis, here is a link to more info: http://kellymom.com/nutrition/vitamins/lecithin.html
