My profile

Hello,

My Name is Zavana and i finally had my Handsome little man Oliver Malakai on September 28th 2008 at 4.39pm.

Oliver was 7lb 11oz, 51cms long.

He was born safely at home in the birthing pool. My birthing plan went perfectly to plan.

My Pregnancy:

I found out that Hamish and i were expecting on Jan 23rd 08, wasnt planned for this year but we were both happy that our baby would be here a year earlier.

From 6 weeks till 16 weeks i had morning sickness, not just in the morning but at night too. But apart from that my pregnancy went along well. I gained a total of 15kgs. I have pictures of my belly every 4 weeks in my profile pictures.

After Giving birth:

Breastfeeding:

Well it looks easy, but it sure isnt. It has taken me 4 weeks to master this art of breastfeeding. Firstly i ended up getting an infection 2 weeks in, aswell as a cracked nipple (So painful!) so therefore i had to express from that side. But with me being stubborn i wasnt going to give up and kept going. And now finally all is well.

My body:

Still to this day i am totally amazed at how my body made me give birth to my little man Oliver. God works wonders i tell ya! Even though it is painful to go through giving birth, your body forgets all the pain as sson as you have your baby in your arms.

Currently i am 4kgs from my pre-pregnant weight of 54kgs. But im not to worried as im breastfeeding, and im sure that extra weight is just in my boobs! ( didnt think that they would grow that big once your milk comes in and you start breastfeeding! Growing from a A cup to a D cup haha)

Yeah, I wish we could start telling these babies what to do and when to do it. Don't think they listen, though!!

lol it's funny cause my midwife thinks I will have him at about 38/39 weeks and i'm 37 now so we could be having them around the same time, you a little late me a little early. I;m glad everything is well. Has he started heading down into your pelvis yet? I have a midwife appointment at 4pm today so will let you know what my little guy is up to

I sure hope he won't be cooking for another 4 weeks. Who knows maybe he will be here tomorrow. At the docs today they said they will probably induce me on Monday. Thursday I have another ultra sound to do, a NST plus blood being drawn, and a 24 hour urine test to be dropped off. Busy day. I looked up preeclampsia and they don't know what causes it. I am a little over weight so maybe that has somthing to do with it, but diet has nothing to do with it. So far it's mild so as long as it's kept in check then baby and me should be ok, lets hope so.

Ok so I am a retard and sent you the same message again. Just ignore me. I have given my dd all my brain cells. LOL. Yeah I have been told red raspberry tea (I take the capsules as I don't like tea) and Evening primrose oil as well. They won't make you go into labor but they will help your labor go faster as it tones your uterus and makes each contractions more effective. The oil is suposed to help you cervix to get ready. You can take it orally as well as insert it 'up'. I have yet to do that as it is said to work like BD by putting the prostagladins next to the cervix to ripen it like sperm. There has been alot of talk of this on our weeks lately. It is somewhat contravercail, which is dumb cuz you can google it and it will say it is not to induce labor. I think hormones are running amuck. LOL. My kid was a bit on the hearty side but it runs in our families. i would ask what you your siblings as well as your DH's weight was and go from there. If all the stress and work we are enduring doesn't make labor come then I think we are likely in the clear until we are really really ready. Fingers crossed.

I would have replied sooner but our internet kept dropping me. So the lady who had the boy wanted to be suprised but was sure it was a girl, so she got her wish. And the whole plug thing sure got my DH motivated to get the house done. Especially considering we have her monday. My 1st was 8lbs 10oz so I am betting that she will be around that size. My babies aren't tiny 6 pounders. We have our dining room nearly done. All the work is killing me thoough. I ache sooooo bad. It is excruciating. But rather hurt than have her come early and not be ready. So how is your project coming? Painting yet?

Man girl you are very brave! Even tho i knew it was gonna go fast and pushing wasnt going to take long i was still scared and i have a nice doc so before they broke my water knowing contractions are gonna start hurting they gave me pain releife. I was so happy for it! I just didnt wanna feel that last bit of pain. I cant imagine! But i guess a home birth is easier to do for a first timer cuz you dont know the pain yet. But i tell you the best way to ease contractions is breathing and i used to think that was funny lol...Im doing better. Last night i started cramping so bad felt like i was in labor. Literaly...its normal for 3rd timers and gets worst with each kid augh....but in the morning i passed a huge clot and felt better! So my body was trying to get rid of that i think. Baby is soooo good! He nurses realy well! So i should say im very lucky. And good luck to you!!!! Ill be waiting lol

Hi zavana,

good luck with your home birth - sounds wonderful. I've never had one, but always quite fancied the idea! I had an appointment in Cairns, but instead of a date for my c-sec, the specialist talked me out of it. He checked with an ultrasound and said she's head down - well down - and looks good and ready to go, so we'll see what happens. He said if I'm still preggo in 3 weeks time, we'll do a c. Suits me! After talking with him about it, I'm happy. Also did lots of shopping, while in Cairns, that was fun!!

Kaylaaa - Monday, 8 September
oooh I haven't got any either, oh well actually I did notice a teeny one on my butt but hips belly and thighs and all that are still clear. 22 days for me though!!

Kaylaaa - Monday, 8 September
I have a midwife appointment tomorrow too :)
Have you had to deal with justifying your homebirth to people who don't understand how it works? I am always having to explain myself and reassure people it is perfectly safe and I am not endangering myself or my baby. it is so frustrating. It's especially frustrating because the people against HB tend to be uneducated about it and don't even know the midwives carry emergency and resuss gear
