Amanda that’s brilliant, well done so far! I have a friend who breastfed twins for over a year. She got so sick of people asking her when she was going to stop, assuming it would be easier on her to switch to formula. She found it convenient and easier than bottles, not to mention cheaper.

Angie, it’s possible you could combine formula and BF so you no longer have to pump at work. Might that help your frame of mind? I could never pump enough at work so I gave my LO formula for daycare most of the time. I work 2.5 days a week, starting back in the office when my bub was 8 months old. For a while i pumped twice a day at work, then…[Read more]

Ozbaby – it sounds like neither you or your bub are ready to finish bf. I’d say that’s two against one in your family 🙂 I have just finished at 16 months and we were both pretty much ready. Clem was already having formula at childcare so it was no big deal to gradually swap to just bottles. (He’s not a great eater so I still give him about 3…[Read more]

Thanks ozbaby – I keep trying Clem with cow’s milk in a sippy cup but he really doesn’t like it! Maybe I need to warm it up or something. Or maybe offer it from a bottle to begin with. He looks at me like I’m trying to trick him when milk comes out of a sippy – he likes water from there, so he’s like what’s that!? Alycendamo and imsoexcited – I…[Read more]

bigmuma – I’ve had nipple pain for the first – week? weeks? I can’t remember – with all 3 of mine and by the third I knew I had as good a latch as was possible. I have fair skin which can make matters worse apparently (more sensitive/easily damaged) and also, when newborn, a baby’s mouth is so tiny that even wide open it may not really get the…[Read more]

MAG04 – don’t feel bad, you did your best. And in fact your post makes me feel a bit better about my failure with breastfeeding my first son. I had flat nipples and he had tongue-tie. If an experienced breastfeeder can’t do it, no wonder I couldn’t. I learnt to love formula because it made my son grow and made him happy. So it may not be as…[Read more]

Storm – you’re right to be questioning this, weaning your bub completely won’t guarantee she will take ordinary milk. My 18 month old still doesn’t like the taste. He does have a bit of formula (finished BF at 16 months). Will your daughter take formula at all? 9 hours does sound a long time for an 11 month old to go without some sort of milk, but…[Read more]

Has anyone here taken antibiotics themselves while breastfeeding? I started taking some (for a sinus/throat infection) and the doctor said they came through in breast milk but it was okay for the baby. He’s 13 months and has had antibiotics himself once or twice anyway. But, he’s been really gassy. Doing these burps that smell really bad even…[Read more]

M.M.Masi – thanks for satisfying my curiosity about twins sleeping together! That’s adorable. Mountainmama – how terrible about the melamine. It’s such a tragedy. Now I’ll be paranoid about Australian formula too – who knows where it’s made, I’ll have to check the can. I give Clem a bit, at childcare and also when he’s extra hungry. Hmm.

Larissa this sounds a bit like what happened with my first son. I had to give up breastfeeding at 12 weeks because by then he was starving, even though I had more than enough milk to begin with. He never got a very good latch. I think this was due to my flat nipples and also he had a bit of tongue tie. I wish I’d got more help earlier. If I were…[Read more]

Well said ozbaby. Bigmuma – I totally understand your decision. You tried your best at breastfeeding and now you’re doing what’s best for your whole family. I have been there with my first child. While I was fighting a losing battle with breastfeeding, I was not enjoying my baby and no-one was enjoying me. I actually became a bit angry at what I…[Read more]

Okay I have another question for you wonderful BF mums. My 13 month old seems to be losing interest in breastfeeding. Has anyone on here experienced self-weaning? He’s maybe having one decent feed a day and just half-hearted snacks other times I offer. We have been offering him the odd bottle of formula in the past week because he’s had a tummy…[Read more]

michelle we have polished concrete and our little man has decided not to crawl but to shuffle around on his bum because it’s quite easy to slide. Not sure if he’ll ever crawl properly or go straight to walking from here!

Hi BF girls, I just wanted to drop by and say I have just finished BF after 16 months and I’ve been really grateful for this forum. Thanks to all of you for your tips and encouragement… even just reading what everyone is going through has given me the determination to keep going for so long. It’s been great and has come to quite a happy and…[Read more]

Judi you’re totally right that sometimes it is fun to have a bit of debate going! I haven’t posted on this forum for quite a while but your comment got me fired up, haha. I think the whole meds thing came up because someone asked a question about it, so people with experience of it were responding, so it made it sound like practically everyone was…[Read more]

kla2200 – haha, yes the bottom of Clem’s pants get filthy! I have to spray them with stain remover before washing. Some are probably going to get worn right through. Oh well, he’s a happy little bum scooter!

Amanda what a gorgeous pic – and nice work on the breastfeeding, it’s obviously going brilliantly. The girls are beautiful. I’ve often wondered with twins, if they sleep better when they’re together, like they were in the womb? Do you put them in the same bed? (Or would that be dangerous?)

incrediblelinda – I would imagine cutting down one pumping session at a time over a week or so would be the best way to go (and replacing it with formula or whole milk). There are pills you can take to stop your milk coming in straight after birth, but they don’t work if your milk supply is already established. (I know this because I asked the…[Read more]

kla2200 – shingles did cross my mind when I read your post before. However I thought that might be an over-reaction to suggest it! Babybehappy – congrats on your pregnancy! I have a friend who bf through her second pregnancy but I don’t know if I could do it – one or the other can take such a toll on your energy levels. You’ve done really well.
