I had to take my daughter to the doc today for her 2 month check up and she weighed in at 12 pds and 11 ounces!! After the nurse left and before the doc came in i fed Julianna b/c it was about that time for her. After I fed her she weighed 13 pds! So she ate 5 ounces at a feeding. I was impressed as I really don’t know how much she takes in at…[Read more]

n2moola- i used to have a similar problem with my lo when she was born. i found that with the one nipple, my right when i held her it was uncomfortable for her so she wouldn’t stay on. I used a boppy for a while until i built up strength to hold her to her liking. It will get better just use lanolion (sp?) cream on it and it’s safe for the baby…[Read more]

tiffsept15- what kind of pump are you using? manuals take longer and you have to work harder for the milk. I use a double electric the medela pump n sytle and I pump in 10-15 mins. Keep going to get your supply back it, it will happen.

Hey ladies, my lo is 5 months old and ebf, no solids yet. We went to the dr yesterday and she weighs 15lbs 9 oz. from birth she was in the 97% for her weight and now is between 50-75%. is this normal with breastfed babies?? I thought they basically stayed in the same percentile. I know she is eating enough, she has plenty of wet diapers and is…[Read more]

candice- how much you are pumping seems just about right. My dd was big too 9lbs and some and she only ate about 2-3 oz in the beginning. you will get more as he gets older. are you putting him to the breast too?? either way just pump or try to feed him as often as you can right now, it takes about 6 weeks to establish your milk supply. good…[Read more]

My daughter is almost 9 months old and I am 8 weeks prego. For about the last week she has been refusing the boob off and on but more than she ever has before. It gets to the point that i juts lift my shirt and she screams and cries but if i give her a bottle of bm she is fine. When I pump at work my supply has definitely decreased. I don’t really…[Read more]

i just remembered about the whole waking your baby to eat thing. when i was in the hospital after giving birth the nurses kept telling me to wake julianna to feed her and i would try as they told and she refused to eat then because she was tired. i tried once or twice to wake her at home and same thing, she is tired and doesn’t want to eat. Just…[Read more]

NavyMommy- that sucks about your lo not being able to take your milk. You did a great job by trying, but you have to do what is best for your baby. If I were you I would just pump to releive the pain and your milk will dry up on it’s own. If you are interested you can freeze and donate whatever milk you do collect. Many premature babies need…[Read more]

Thanks erica, i will try that out and see how it works.. i really really want her to stay on breast milk as long as possible. when you went back to work, did your milk production decrease?

thanks judi and jmwolf99- it has become such a routine. Sometimes I miss feedings because i can’t pump at work and I worry so much about it. I am a natural worrier but it seems extreme when i miss a feed. I really do enjoy it and julianna and i are so close and have bonded great and i love to be able to giver her the best thing she can possibly…[Read more]

anne- i read somewhere (can’t remember where) that when bm smells, it is bad. you were right to throw it away, maybe that one just went bad on a fluke or somehting. i had a problem with one or two bags going bad but the rest are find and julianna gets frozen milk at day care. I would seriously have a breakdown if all the milk in my freezer went bad!

SunshineMaria- maybe can you tighten the straps on the carseat so he can’t get out so easily. I would make sure the buckle is up high at armpit level too so he can’t look at it while he is trying to unbuckle himself. That is a scary situation, i would pull over and buckle him back up when he does this. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

kebler- i am in the same boat as you. full time working mommy who is trying to ebf! my lo just hit 6 months and we are just introducing solids but she is not really interested. the doc wants me to pump them into her 2 times a day because she lost weight since last month. She eats like a pig at daycare 2 bottles of bm about 7-8 oz each, that is…[Read more]

babycarter- if you pump after you feed your baby it’s probably better than feeding after pumping. Either way will stimulate your body to make more milk. Feed baby first will be less frustrating for the baby. I also knew if my kids ate say every 4 hrs, I would pump inbetween, but that works only if your lo has a routine/schedulle kind of thing.

anyone know how to get a faster let down??? my dd is 6 months old and we’ve been ebf and my let down takes so long especially at night. I go to feed her before she goes to sleep and she gets mad b/c the milk isn’t coming fast enough so she unlatches and comes off and starts crying. She keeps doing a few sucks and then lets go. If she would just…[Read more]

andante- you can also add old fashioned oats to your diet. soak them in water for about 10-12 hours then heat and eat. This should help your supply as well. Also too the more formula you supplement with will tell your body to not produce as much. When you are not working try to have a nursing marathon where you just nurse your lo as much as you…[Read more]

Has anyone on here donated breast milk?? I am considering it because I have about 200 ounces in the freezer already and am pumping an extra 12 ounces or so a day. I don’t want to stop the extra pumping because I don’t want my supply to go low and I go back to work next month. But at the rate i’m going, there isn’t going to be any room for food…[Read more]

Hi Ladies, My LO is 3 months old and has been slepeing through the night since she was about 5 weeks. Up until now, I’ve been getting up in the middle of the night to pump but now since i’m back to work, I don’t wan to anymore. i have the nuby sippy cups for julianna. they seem easy to transition with as the spout is sorta like a nipple but a spout and soft like a breast. julianna isn’t too fond of hers yet but she just hit 6 months and we’ve only tried a few times with water in it. I have heard great things about them though.

I’m beginning to pump to store some in advance for when I go back to work. It will be super hard to keep up the flow when I go because it will be very difficult to pump at work. What is the best way to get the most milk now? Right now I feed on one side at a time. Should I pump the other side when she is finished or should I pump the side I just…[Read more]
