Mommyof2in10 – My LO just went 3 weeks without a BM so don’t worry. I took her to the docs and health visitors over and over and they just kept telling me not to worry and they were right. She seems back to her usual once a day again now. I think she must have been growing because she has gone up a clothes siz

How are my sore nipples supposed to heal when baby keeps need ing to feed off them? I have bought some nipple shields but not sure if they are a good idea as I am treating thrush and it’s just another source of infection to sterilise. Baby is getting lots of milk and gaining weight but it’s just so painful in so many different ways. Now the…[Read more]

Phatbaby – it took 5 days for mine to come in this time. I don’t know if it had something to do with being induced? I have heard it can take longer after a C section too. Maybe the hormones take a bit to kick in if labour isn’t spontaneous? I just kept nursing even though I don;t think there was anything there and it came eventually.

kallie – it might be when your milk lets down. It can come out reallly fast and make them squirmy. Mine does it towards the end of a feed though when she finds it harder to get the milk.

Does anyone know how many calories to eat if you are bf but want to lose weight? I have a stone of baby weight to lose. I joined a gym yesterday and hope to go 3 times a week (if I can make it). I need to fit into some decent clothes and feel a little less frumpy.

Is it safe to take all kinds of vitamins when you are breastfeeding? I know when you are pregnant you have to stick to pregnancy specific ones. I just wondered if it’s the same when feeding. Also, I am struggling with the feeding and the pain. I am sure my LO is ‘chomping’ when she shouldn’t and I find it hard to get her to open her mouth wide…[Read more]

I have a question. Some of my friends say they cut their breastfeeding down to just once in the morning and at night after a while. I am curious as to what happens to your milk supply. Do you not dry up or feel super engorged all day?

lilmamaspads – thanks I am not sure if it is a blister or just a sore bit. I just want to get past this rough patch. I really don’t want to give up and I have a natural instinct to want to feed her myself. Formula is fine, but it smells awful compared to breast milk and I am sure it can’t taste as nice. I am also feeling quite proud of myself…[Read more]

That’s it! I am on the verge of giving up. My nipples are so sore and I can’t get the cracks to heal. I am trying to position the baby right but nothing is working.

deeyore – Thanks – it’s amazing what our bodies know. Like how to grow a baby from scratch. Wow.

Natalie – it may not be leaking unusually. I collect my ‘drips’ from the other side when I am nursing in a breast shell and sometimes I collect a full oz. In one day I collect a full bottle of milk. I only just started doing it but I wish I had done earlier. Then when the baby isn’t settling well or my nipples need a little rest I can feed her…[Read more]

shirls – I get sleepy too. I wonder whether it is actually a chemical/hormone thing as it does wear off again quickly.

How long does it take for feeding to become less painful. Since my milk came in about 5 days ago I have found it to be much more painful than before. These last couple of days my boobs have been hurting after I have finished feeding too. I haven’t got any hard lumps or red streaks. My nipples look a little bit cracked, but nothing too bad I…[Read more]

Wow I actually managed a half decent night sleep. Fed baby at 10.30 and she woke at 2.30 then slept till 5.30. I feel so much better. I am sure it was a one off but if I get a night like that once in a while I can manage getting up every 2 hours the other nights.

rashcout – I agree that those things are not normal for the age. It’s great that he is doing so well.
