I have a question for you ladies, need some advice…. My second is about 3 weeks old now and she breastfeeds about every 2-3 hours. She is having more periods of awakeness during the day. At night-time, i try to mimick my oldest daughters sleep routine, bathtime, quiettime and then off to bed. I will feed my littlest just before i put her down in our room in the bassinet and keep it dark, quiet with a fan going for ‘whitenoise’ and check on her every so often. This issue that i’m having is she is ‘sleeping’ or so it seems but she makes these weird ‘animal’ like noises. The closest thing i can relate it to is it sounds like a pig! She does these noises throughout the day but at night, not only am i not getting sleep due to the 2-3hour feedings but also cause she lays in her bassinet and ‘grunts’ . Has any of your children ever done this? I cant seem to remember my firstborn doing this. She is 3.5 years older and my memory is kinda hazy on how she used to be. I swear that the baby is doing this cause she is just hungry and that is her way of ‘waking’ up to feed. I make sure to swaddle her and keep her dry and comfortable but nothing seems to quiet her down. ALso, i will feed her and then it seems like an hour to hour and a half later she is making the noises again. Like she is getting hungry again! Any suggestions or advise or comments would be appreciated:)

Hi Ladies…My LO is 12months old and she has been running a temp since Thursday and has almost NO appetite at all. At first I thought it was her teeth but on Saturday she was so lethargic and irritable, all she wanted was to be held. She is normally a really active/talkative baby. Babbling, cooing, crawling all over the place, cruising along the furniture but Saturday was the worst. She just sat there and looked miserable. NO vomiting, NO diarreah, NO cough, NO runny nose…just high temp and no appetite. She WAS taking fluids so I just upped her formula so she would get some calories in. Today there has been no fever, still really no appetite so I called her pediatrician to get her in (tomorrow morning). Any thoughts would be helpful. I am at my wits end, its so disheartening to see your child miserable like that and not eating 🙁

JustSayCheese – Pretty accurate. I have two girls and you can totally tell cause they have these little ‘lines’ where their girly parts are formed. And I’ve seen an ultrasound pic of a boy, lol! you can totally see the little weenie and balls ;-D

I have a question for you ladies. Just had my second child and as with my first, my milk is taking forever to come in. Its been almost 3 days. I had to supplement her with a little formula but am still putting her to breast and trying to have her feed and even have tried to use the small formula bottle with the little tube taped to my breast so that when she sucks on me, she also sucks on the little tube and gets a little nourishment. She was very small (not premie, though) and she has some blood sugar issues so that is why the hospital suggested supplementing her. Now i feel like i am sabotoaging myself and all of my efforts to breastfeed. Like i said, its almost the 3rd day since giving birth and when i pump, there is a little colostrum that comes out but no mature mild production yet. Please, any advice, tips, suggestions would be SO helpful!

Hello Ladies:) My little one is 3 weeks old and i feel as if she isnt getting enouhg from me. She can mostly go 2-3 hours between feedings but at night (especially between the hours of 6-10pm) she is RAVENOUS! It is stressing me out! How were your babies in the beginning? My firstborn was so different! She could go 3-4 hours between feedings and at night she would do 5 hour stretches. Not this one! 4hrs MAX at night between feedings.

Morning Ladies:) You all seem to be ‘long time’ Breastfeeders…have any of you gotten your periods? I’m still really new in the game considering my little one is only 3wks so i have awhile yet to worry about that. Are any of you on any type of contraceptives? I’m just curious as to what my options are for birth control while still breastfeeding? I dont go for my post-partum check for a few more weeks and i was just curious…

Thanks for all your input on the birth control question:) I would like to get an IUD when i can but when i tried to get one after my firstborn, the doc said he couldnt put it in without doing an outpatient visit to dialate my cervix cause i was too tilted. I’m going to revisit the issue just to see and also cause i have a different doc this time around. Hubby and i had to try for quite a few months for both our little ones and i was never on any birth control before. Just tracked my ovulation dates/period. I was always really predictable with my cycles. Always worked really well for us but now that we have our second. I am really thinking this will be our last….just gotta convince hubby of that so he will go get snipped! 🙂

Do any of you have the ‘expression bustier’? I saw it online and it looked really cool so i bought one. I pump after almost every feed and it can be a pain when it ties up both your hands and this was a hands free ‘pumping bra’. Just wanted some opinions if any of you ladies have purchased one of these.

misz-cashis-april09 – My boobs were ENORMOUS when my milk first came in. They seriously looked like canteloupes! I’m a generally small chested person so my hubby was like…DAMN! The engorgement will go down. Just try to get your little man to feed as often as possible. If this is your first, your nipples will be pretty sore for a bit, dont loose heart, just keep with it! Mine got so bad with my firstborn, they were cracked and bleeding and everytime my daughter latched on (improperly no doubt) i wanted to cry. It can be difficult at first, especially when they are that little, they’re mouths are so small but keep with it an you’ll get it:) Good luck! And, BTW, i went to your profile…your little one is SUCH a beautiful little boy! Congrats:)

tommiesmommy – Is that the stuff that makes your sweat smell like maple syrup? I thought i read that somewhere, or was that a different herb?

ok, have any of you tried brewers yeast? I heard that helps too. I really am not appealing to the idea of smelling like maple syrup:P

I have a question. Are there any of you ladies that only breastfeed, NO pumping? Like SAHM’s? And really my question is if and when you do pump, do you not get alot? I lost my job a month or so ago and basically quit pumping b/c i already have SO much stored breastmilk in deep freeze. But i’ve noticed that if i do pump, i’m reallly not getting alot at all. My LO seems very satisfied after feeds, goes about 3-4 hours in between and has plenty of wet diapers so its not like i dont have a good supply, just dont get much when i pump. Has this happened to any of you?

I read somewhere that a breastfed baby that sucks on her hands means she’s not getting enough milk? I dont get that at all!? My LO is about 3months old and REFUSES a pacifier, if she wants to suck, she sucks on her hands. I do notice that she does this after feedings but she seems well satisfied. Just wondering if she likes to suck but doesnt want the binky? Have any of you ever heard of that? Also, for you ladies that EBF, do your LO take binkies? Mine just wont…

Hi girls! i have a question about how long your little ones breast feed. Mine just seems to be a speed nurser. I was conserned at first that she might not be draining me thoughorly but after a couple nursing sessions i pumped and i got nothing. She usually is on each breast 5-10minutes. Pulls off on her own. I read on the LaLegcheLeague website that most babies can develop their own technique and time and efficiently draining the breast. The only reason i was concerned (and i’m a worry wart to begine with) was that other books say how you should nurse 10-20mintues on each side. I couldnt get her to stay on me for that long unless she fell asleep! If she finishes on one side and then comes off, i burp her and then try to put her up to that breast again but usually she gets really pissed as if she knows its empty. Just wanted to get some of your experiences and feedback:) Thanks!
