OH, annie-marie: my BEEF of a kid is 10 months old. He usually only eats 10-12 ozs of expressed milk the entire day while at the sitter. And he goes from 4:30 am (when I last feed him and crawl out of bed) until about 9am before he signals that he wants a bottle. He STILL hasn’t gotten the hang of the plastic nipple and chews on it like…[Read more]

Kayvee- p.s. The first time Augustin clapped: he had just finished nursing, was super full and ‘milk drunk’, looked up at me and clapped. Hilarious. Now, when I ask him, ‘Auggie, do you want to nurse?’ he gets a big smile and crawls over to me, nuzzling my chest. My husband watches from above and behind saying, ‘He NEVER smiles like he does…[Read more]

annie-marie: good for you. Your kiddo doesn’t NEED solids at 4, 5,6, sometimes until a year, kiddos are happy being exclusively BFd. You do what you feel is right; you’re the expert on your babe. Maybe not the general recommendations, but definitely on your little one. Solids need to be started sooner with formula kiddos (and I wouldn’t mind…[Read more]

Lilli- thrush is treated with an antifungal, not antiBs. Won’t hurt to get him checked, but I would google image THRUSH, first. Sometimes my LO’s gum and cheek tissues are quite pale and white-ish.

Precious: this can also be a sign of two scary thungs, so get checked out. Pituitary tumors or mis-regulation can cause continued (or new… did you dry up and now it’s back?) or thyroid issues. My aunt, whose youngest is SEVENTEEN still makes milk somewhat randomly, and during the BD ‘happy ending.’ They MRI’d (or CT?) for the tumor, nadda.…[Read more]

Regarding this content: you should not compress your breast to allow your babe to breath better… it can cause blocked ducts. Instead, pull babies body to the side opposite the breast he’s using (this won’t work for football: for football, pull baby backwards). IE: Baby is nursing at the right breast and having difficulty breathing due to…[Read more]

And fyi: vegans or lanolin-sensitive types, there’s a nipple cream out there for you! http://www.earthmamaangelbaby.com/product/breastfeeding-support/natural-nipple-butter.html
We LOVE their products and give them as gifts now. Their stretch oil was (IS!) divine. I used it on my tummy and then on my breasts (when the milk came in, I went from…[Read more]

1byFaith- YES. It’s stressful, but normal. Babes around 2-3 days growth spurt, trying to make up for a change in nutrition. This is GREAT. It means he’s hungry and charging through your colostrum. Milk comes in between 3-7 days, and that’s NORMAL. Until it gets flowing, expect him to be a frequent flyer on the Booby Boeing! And congrats!!!…[Read more]

Be careful w/ the beer. It has actually been shown that the alcohol can inhibit let down. That being said, once you’re established etc etc, you can pretty much do anything. Kellyroo, I’m with you! One week postpartum I was like, ‘WAIT a minute. I’m not pregnant and I’m NOT ALLOWED to have a drink? My doc wasn’t even that stringent during…[Read more]

Kayvee- congratulations on beginning the journey to breastfeeding! I think you’ve chosen a good group to talk to here. You’re not going to get the ‘it’s easy cheesy all the time’ cheer and you’re not going to get the ‘not worth it’ stuff. For me and Augustin, the first couple weeks were uncomfortable, to say the least. He’s got a bit of a…[Read more]
