• Hi everyone =) I want to get your take on something: I’m completely terrified of SIDS, I know we all worry about it, but I seriously don’t even nap anymore during the day because I have to check Beckett so often. We have a wood burning stove in our home (as well as typical HVAC) but I started thinking about the smoke and particles not being good…[Read more]

Amira: when you say she wants 14 oz is that 14 oz at a time or 14 oz for the day? How often are you feeding her? 14oz at time is more than I’ve ever heard of with any baby – even older ones. When you say it takes your breast 1/2 the day to ‘refill’ what do you mean? You should be feeding your little girl every 2-3 hours from the beginning of…[Read more]

Melissa: that hardness is your milk coming in! Do not supplement your baby yet (in my opinion) try and get him to nurse. Also, some lanolin nipple cream might help your nips, but if your baby isn’t nursing you MUST pump. I fought low milk supply because I didn’t pump early enough and my baby would’t latch. Colostrum only cuomes out in a few…[Read more]

Johnsokor: here is some basic info on relactation. http://www.kellymom.com/bf/supply/relactation.html It is very feasible to do it, you just have to be diligent. If you are serious about it, you might want to look into renting a hospital grade pump to help speed up the process. I commend you for giving the BF first priority, good luck! =)

I’m going to disagree on offering the bottle of EBM for a second time – there is no concrete research that says you can’t offer it a second time, and the LC I used said it was fine (as long as it was within about 3 hours) and must be thrown out after that. That is only with fresh/refrigerated EBM, NOT previously frozen. Do some research and…[Read more]

Cluck, my son has green poo sometimes. According to his Dr breastfed babies poo can vary widely and as long as they aren’t fussy or displaying any signs of illness not to worry about it. If it makes you feel any better contact your ped and get their take on it though.

Jennifer: Bri is right, relactation is totally possible! It will take some dedication on your part, but sounds like it might be the best solution for you and your LO =) Here is some basic info from Kellymom.com that might help get you started http://www.kellymom.com/bf/supply/relactation.html Best wishes, you can do it!

Armywife: I think that you will find most women have the Medela pump in style advanced. Most Lactation consultants would agree that it’s the best pump on the market (other than the hospital grade pumps of course). If you have the $$ you should check out the Medela freestyle – it’s handsfree pumping and the motor fits in the palm of your hand!…[Read more]

Verizonchic: the most common recommendations for upping your supply are A. eat a bowl of oatmeal that has been soaked (equal parts oatmeal to water) for at least 7 hours before cooking. I do 1 cup of oats soaked in 1 cup of water then use an additional 1/2 cup water to cook it in. B. Fenugreek is the most commonly recommended herb for upping…[Read more]

Mrsdenney: have you tried all the typical herbs and natural remedies to get a better milk supply (oatmeal, fenugreek & blessed thistle)? A lot of women who have LOs in the NICU and don’t get to BF have supply issues, so don’t think you are alone. Let us know what you have tried and maybe we can tell you what to try next.

My son is 4.5 months and I am just now getting the hang of nursing in public – not because I didn’t want to, but I was tied to a pump for a long time due to several BF issues (including low supply). Anyway, I’ve found that the using the ‘hooter hider’ draws more attention and is so clumsy for me that just nursing descretely is better (for me).…[Read more]

Hi all you lovely preggo ladies! I just wanted all of you to know that natural is possible and wonderful. Having my son naturally was the most amazing and most impowering thing I have ever been a part of. There are women out there who like to say ‘I don’t see anyone handing out medals for going natural’ , but let me tell you that a medal…[Read more]

Sorry Ozbaby, I thought that was the article that had that dosage in it. I’m still on the 160mg/day and getting ready to wean down from it (although I’m really scared of losing my supply). Anyway, here is one of the bits I found very quickly to support this dosage: The traditional and most accepted dosage of domperidone as a galactogogue is…[Read more]

jblueyes: I’m so sorry you are having such a hard time =( Don’t dispair, there is help for you out there. A lactation consultant should be able to give you some suggestions to help you correct his suck. If that doesn’t work, I would get a referal from your ped to take him to an occupational therapist. It may sound severe, but trust me they…[Read more]

Lydia, I’m sorry to say that other than the ointment and the medela breast shields (hard shell/cup worn over your nipples between feeds that keep your bra off of them while they are super tender) ,NOT nipple shields, the best thing you can do is just breastfeed. You can’t avoid BFing by pumping and hope that your nipples will adjust that way.…[Read more]
