I tried pumping more often to increase my supply but found myself taking 4 pumps just to get one bottle. Finally I gave up and decided I would just pump as often as he would eat normally (at 10 months every 5-6 hours) and I got the same amount of milk in half the pumps. Been pretty consistent for about a month. He is 11 months in a couple of…[Read more]

The older my son got the less powerfult my letdowns were. I have been back to work fulltime since he was 3 months old and once he started solids he never wanted to nurse the times I was available so after about 6 months he only nursed in the mornings. He is almost 11 1/2 months. Almost to a year and that was my goal!! Pumping I think takes…[Read more]

Totally got sidetracked, we were talking about letdowns. Anyway my letdowns definitely got less powerful since I pumped way more often than nursed. Then it was frustrating because on the weekends when I didnt even want to LOOK at the pump I would try to nurse but it just wasnt fast enough for him He refused to work at it so on a Saturday…[Read more]

I introduced the bottle to my son at 4 days old. We were commuting back and forth to the hospital a lot in his first week and I wasnt brave enough to nurse in public so I was more comfortable pumping. My husband always gave the bottle so my son would only associate me with breast. We had trouble latching at first (which would make public…[Read more]

suzm – it sounds like you are doing everything right. I found that after 6 months its a whole new game because they are getting more and more nutrients from solids and breastmilk is no longer their sole nutrient source. I found from 6-12 months my supply dipped a lot. He was eating more solids and less interested in putting the time and energy…[Read more]

mrsdenney – that is a really bad situation you are in for yourself and your son. If your MIL is an enabler then she is just as much a danger as your husband is if he is drinking. If you want to work things out with your husband, the only solution would be to get away from your MIL! Then at least you can see if there is anything to work out.…[Read more]

joelisa – You have to really put your foot down!! I had to do it with my mother. To the point that I refused to let her babysit because I knew she would sneak him a cookie when he was way too young. Even now, he is a year old but she wont listen to the schedules I set for him, so she doesnt babysit. It upsets her but she is going to have to…[Read more]

kym – SLEEP! That’s my advice. I wake my son up at 5:30 to feed him before work and thats what time he wakes up on the weekends too. Cant blame the poor kid but if you have the opportunity that your baby will let you sleep… SLEEP! Lucky lucky.

storm – have you noticed any drop in supply since you are going so long without pumping? Thats my fear even though i HATE pumping and cant wait to be done!

I miss the yummy mommy milk smiles!! Now I only get a smile when he kicks me in the stomach while nursing, or bites haha. BOYS

I still remember back to the early weeks of crying (me just as much as the baby!) There are so many doubts especially if its your first time. I was on the kellymom website reading reading reading about all of the benefits and why I was doing it. Then I would come on here and see everyone with the same problems and the pros who had been BFing…[Read more]

I work full-time and pretty much exclusively pump around the clock for my 9 1/2 month old (we only nurse in the morning). To keep up my supply I pump every 2-3 hours. You can imagine that by the weekend when I am with my son 24/7 I am DONE with pumping and just want to nurse. The problem is since he is on solids he is not interested in nursing…[Read more]

My job is totally slow too. Cant wait to go home. I pump about 6oz each session now, but in the middle of the night I get the most, about 4oz from each. The more you pump/nurse definitely affects milk supply – very quickly too! I always pump more on Monday for some reason, probably because I nurse so much over the weekends. Hes having a…[Read more]

nikki… I’m thinking if you dont want to get pregnant again so soon, use protection! I got my period after 6 weeks (**sigh), but not getting your period doesnt mean you arent fertile. I bet there are many women on this forum alone who can attest to that haha. We use good old fashion condoms because I didnt want to be on any pill while…[Read more]

You should also expect supply to drop when you start solids because baby is getting more and more nutrients from solids and needs less from BM. Especially after 6 months so you are almost there.

I had to use the breast shields for the first couple of days nursing because my son had a tendency to suck on his bottom lip and couldnt be bothered opening his mouth enough to latch. They allowed me to get into the habit and routine of breastfeeding but they were such a pain and so messy! Eventually I got frustrated and just decided to ditch…[Read more]

If you pump often and at work you are going to want the quick wipes. They dont need to be Medella brand because that could get pricey but you want something to clean them after you use them. I’ve heard some people just put them in the fridge after use instead of cleaning them everytime and then just sterilize at night. I wipe clean after use,…[Read more]

Thats so crazy. I know a lot of people who talk about comments they receive while breastfeeding, from complete strangers!! Luckily for me I only had to deal with the ‘you’re STILL breastfeeding?’ from my own family. Went a year though in spite of it. It was hard not to get defensive though. I just like to tell them that my son is in daycare…[Read more]

emily – my cycle was always lower at night. Do you pump? I pumped throughout the day when I was at work and in the middle of the night when he was sleeping through, to up my freezer supply. Then my husband always gave him a nighttime bottle of expressed to rotate our freezer supply (I would pump). That way he took more from the bottle than he…[Read more]
