• After being incredibly quiet and not moving much yesterday, my lil bub finally squirmed around a bit last night and his daddy was able to feel it on my tummy. Yay! James is moving around lots right now… squirming rather than kicking… which is nice! Hope everyone has a lovely week. JESS – Thanks for the update!

Mine did! Both my FIL and MIL called to wish me a happy mother’s day. AND we found out that my FIL (divorced from my MIL) decided to get some flowers and drop them off at MIL’s house. They had a nasty divorce and hardly speak so we were all floored. The note said ‘Thank you for bringing our 3 wonderful boys into the world.’

sunnymom – she cries and mopes if I say anything to her. I’ll give her times that we are available to visit with her and explain that the rest of the times are taken up by wedding stuff or visits to DH’s father (equal time). Apparently she is expecting us to stay with her. She didn’t ask though so I’m not saying anything until we get our…[Read more]

GRRR!!! Airlines need to stop advertising their freaking amazing deals to my MIL! Especially when I don’t qualify for the same deals.

*maybe she’ll stay at a hotel*

    *sigh* she won’t. I know she won’t.

My MIL called this weekend. They are already planning our trip up there in Oct which is to go to a friend’s wedding. She said that we didn’t need to bring the following: Coats (she has some we can use); pack n’ play (she’ll borrow a playpen from the church for LO to sleep in); clothes for me to wear (I can just borrow hers!); boots (she’s got…[Read more]

Sunnymom – Oh my god. how rude! CHRISTIEO78 – I would be pulling my hair out. No, I would be divorced. I already told DH that if she kept up this little routine we’d never move to the same town.

I just got an e-mail from my MIL. She needs our address to put on the customs forms that she’s still 4 weeks away from filling out. She’s 26 days away from coming and my heartrate is already rising. Please see my post from a week ago, 11 posts down, to see why this is an annoyance. I told hubby about her e-mail and he groaned, ‘REALLY? She’s…[Read more]

LIN – Oh my god, my MIL does the same thing with giving us gifts, except they are gifts that are old. Like when my husband was a baby. Stupid packrat. Seriously, and since she lives in a different country, even new stuff means I can’t return or exchange it. I got a ton of 30 year old blankets, and she brought down a rabbit from one of her…[Read more]

Teeanbaby – I think you are right… this last visit, I pretty much treated her like a child and that seemed to work better. I asked DH last night what his thoughts were for our visit in October and he said, ‘I was thinking that maybe we could stay with my dad, since we didn’t get to spend much time with him.’ Since we’ll be there 5 days, I…[Read more]

2babys – ha! a 10 month old in time out! He wouldn’t understand it yet. Sure, I tell my 1 year old, ‘No’ or move her away from things taht she shouldn’t be in. I put her in her crib if I need to get away for a minute. Although, when she was throwing a tantrum at one point, I put her in her crib and sat near her (feigning un-interest) until she…[Read more]

sunny – I don’t know. I doubt he would but ya never know. She hasn’t done it in front of him, but I did tell him about it and he was just quiet. Not sure what he was thinking about. He doesn’t like to be around when she visits and tells me that i just have to know how to talk to her. I told him that I tried the exact same thing he did and I…[Read more]

J-lynn – don’t feel bad, especially if she’s like that! Holy Cow! My neice was in the NICU for 3 months and she had to pass several tests before she could come home. She had one more to do, and my sister and BIL told us she was home the day after she was released. No one in our family is a fighter like that, but they just wanted to have some…[Read more]

j-lynn- I agree. Don’t let her know until the baby arrives. The only way she’s gonna know to get to the hospital is if someone tells her, and since you don’t want ANYONE there other than your hubby, don’t notify ANYONE until the baby has arrived. That’s what my brother did. In fact all throughout the pregnancy, my brother would call up and…[Read more]

My MIL called yesterday. She wanted to know if we’d decided where we were moving yet. She’s been asking us this since November. We know where we are moving, and are waiting on the final paperwork, I told her that since it isn’t official, I wasn’t going to give out the address yet, but once everything is in place, we will. She said she needs to…[Read more]

Amanda – That’s totally ridiculous! I would totally pull DH aside and tell him that its completely inexcusable and that it shouldn’t fall on your (HIS OWN) DAUGHTER to defend you against his mother. Then I would say, ‘If you don’t take care of this now, I will… and you probably aren’t going to like the outcome.’ Grab my keys and start heading…[Read more]

Lilli1317 – My MIL does the same thing with the pacifiers. My daughter hasn’t used one in 8-10 months. She never cared much for them and just stopped using them at about 4-6 months. I kept a couple of them for nostagia (some are preemie pacis) and when my MIL came to visit over the summer… she found them, and tried to give them to her because…[Read more]

Why is it that my fil, rude as he can be… stand by the rule that houseguests are like fish… they start to stink after 3 days. But my MIL doesn’t apparently know that one?

  • JessieZC replied to the topic Mothers in law in the forum Babies Forum 2 years, 6 months ago

LiZZY!!! TELL HER NO!! Tell her that you and your baby need to have time to be together and that while you welcome her to come for a shorter visit, a longer visit just isn’t something that you are up for. Also make sure to hint that it might not be good money sense since staying at a hotel that long is bound to get pricey.

WMSmuggler – I hear you loud and clear on the ‘She’s really just trying to help’ part of the problem. It’s so frustrating, especially when they force it on you, act like its a gift, but there are always alterior motives, or strings. Even if its just noise they make when they talk to you… ‘hmmm…’ or ‘ugh.’ Or to keep their son attached to…[Read more]
