• secondstar – I waited 4 weeks before introducing a binky and 6 for bottle. My LO loved to suck when she was a newborn so she when she wasn’t eating she was pretty much just sucking on my finger. lol Since I have a toddler as well there was no way that I could have her using me as a pacifier all the time. When we introduced the bottle I had…[Read more]

  • 1byFaith – I’ve heard about the eggnog thing, but I got to tell you, I’ve been drinking eggnog pretty much daily since I found it the day after Halloween (I’m crazy about the stuff, it’s a sickness really!) and haven’t noticed any differences in my supply on the days I drink more. Oh well though, at least the eggnog is making me happy! lol

  • I’m having some difficulty nursing my 10 day old. She will only take the first part of my nipple in her mouth and not the areola. It’s quite painful at first, but it does tend to lessen as she nurses (or maybe I just get used to it). She is getting enough milk, so I know she’s suppressing the milk glands enough and I’m not concerned about it…[Read more]

  • wyattsmommy – I know it sucks now, but take advantage of those leaking boobs now while you have them!! You can stock up your freezer supply without even trying! Not sure how you’re collecting milk now when you’re leaking, but Avent makes these breast shields that collect leaking milk. I got them at Babies R Us and they were $15 for two. I…[Read more]

  • 1blessedmomma – I know, it’s all a bit ridiculous! I told the hubby that if these things don’t figure it out when I’m done bf then he has to buy me ones that will! lol Some things just aren’t fair!

  • Hi ladies! So i started back at work yesterday and it’s just awful. I’m in a storage closet as we speak just pumping away! When i picked up my girls yesterday from my mil she said that she ran out of breast milk and gave her some water! I was so mad that a: she didn’t call to say she was running low and b: that she gave her water! She’s only…[Read more]

  • Wow, I definitely consider myself lucky – my ped is nothing like what you all are describing! Maybe it’s because he has 4 kids under 5 and his wife bf all of them. I can trust him and his opinions and for that I am thankful!

  • Expecting – you really pump every half hour?! I’ve tried that, but the times that I have I end up having no milk when Scarlett waked up and she struggles on the boob. Then I have to end up giving her what I’ve pumped and the day feels like a complete waste. That’s also why I’m trying so many different things to up my supply. Do you do anything…[Read more]

  • We use Dr Brown’s and both of my girls love(d) them. I’ve always heard that they are great for gas, and it’s true. My LO is such a gassy baby and she does really well with them. They do have more parts to clean, but I’m so used to it that I don’t even notice. Three of my girlfriend’s used the Adiri nursers and they all said that they leaked…[Read more]

  • wyattsmommy – Maybe you should throw out some math at your family next time they complain. One year worth of powdered formula can cost anywhere from $1600-$1800! But then, if you need to use lactose free/soy or you want to use organic then it cane get up to $5000 a year!!! Tell them you’re putting that money into his college fund. 🙂

  • Mybabysurprise – My right boob is broken too! lol It produces so much less than my left to the point that my left is two sizes bigger than my right! It’s extremely frustrating, but I’ve learned to deal with it. I usually get 4 oz from my left and between 1-2 from my right. 🙁

  • Thanks ladies! And Expecting, I WAS pissed!! When she told me, I was like ‘She’s not supposed to have water! She’s not supposed to have anything but breastmilk for 6 months!’ And she asked why and I told her ‘because she’s not supposed to have anything for 6 months!’ lol I think she got the picture. I also think you might be right about the…[Read more]

  • Yeah, I still take a huge bottle of water with me at night for that night time feeding. It’s a quart sized bottle and I finish it almost every time I nurse!

  • m.e.a – mine nurses the same as yours and is well above the average weight for her age! I get about 5-10 minutes on one side every 3-4 hours. During the night she goes a little longer. It just means that our babies are excellent nursers! lol

  • expecting – I get about 4 oz from one boob in 10 minutes. But I have one breast that produces over double what the other one does so I only pump that one. I have Scarlett nurse on the other side to try to get that one up to the same speed. This morning, Scarlett had gone almost 6 hours between feedings (it was amazing!!!) and my left breast was…[Read more]

  • Thetoymomma- Most LCs suggest introducing the bottle between 4-6 weeks. Latch should be good and supply should also be well established by then. You can start by pumping directly after each feeding to help build supply. You might not get much if anything at first, but this triggers your body to produce more. Good luck!!

  • I noticed that my daughter was gassy after I had eaten a lot of fiber. I had made a three bean veggie chili and I think the beans were too much for her! A good rule of thumb is if something will make you gassy, then it will probably make baby gassy too! 🙂

  • mom2dom- my dd pooped every diaper until she was about 3 months old. Her ped said it’s normal. 🙂

  • Mommynwifey – I agree with expecting. Disregard the clock completely! Feed on demand and you will be much happier because you’ll be less stressed about the timing. I take fenugreek and drink mother’s milk tea. Both I got at my local Whole Foods store. I think that most ‘organic-y’ type markets carry them. The oatmeal water has definitely…[Read more]

  • proudmum – I wouldn’t let her try, especially since she never nursed before. It sounds like she’s wanting special attention from you and sees that the new LO gets special time with mommy nursing. Maybe spend 15 minutes with just her coloring or reading a book. If you let her try it might confuse her even more and she might be unsure of how what…[Read more]
