ljzmami87; Check with your local LC on additional tips. I believe Medela has a special tube feeding system that you attach to your nipple. The tube runs from your nipple to a little bottle holding the expressed BM or formula. Not only with your baby stimulate you as she sucks, she will get use to getting her nourishment from your breast…[Read more]

Nursing Bra Subject; Thanks to the moo makers, I am now a 34 I or J, depending on the fit. Because I’m fairly large to begin with (34G), I have to get all my bras at Nordstrom (4+ hours away) since Target/Wallmart/Macy’s etc. don’t’ have my size, but even now, Nordstrom doesn’t carry nursing bras in my size, they have to special ord…[Read more]

Lawson’s momâ€you mentioned last week that you were able to pump 30 oz in one day using the pump + hand expression method. I watched the video from the Stanford nursery and understand the concept behind what to do, but I’m wondering how you are able to do this all at work? How long of breaks are you taking to do all the massaging/pumping/hand co…[Read more]

First timer-when you say “exclusively breast feeding” does that mean you have not introduced any solids yet? I certainly know parents who do not introduce anything but BM until 1 year or later, but if you really think it is hunger related, it may be time to start feeding him solids. Otherwise there are a few different techniques you can use…[Read more]

Domperidone Info: It is FDA approved in many different countries (just not the USA), and is regarded as the safest drug for lactation, and is approved the American Academy of Pediatrics. Because the FDA does not regulate compounding pharmacies, you can get it there via a prescription by your doctor. The side effect of the medication is…[Read more]

micaellaâ€In addition to the Federal health care policy, each state can have their own policy too. I think in Oregon, where I’m at, you are allowed two 30 min sessions unpaid for the first yearâ€this is in addition to your lunch break. Check with your employer and see if they are willing to modify that…for example, see if they will let you t…[Read more]

Scarlet; Thanks for the encouragement! I’m glad to hear you are allowing yourself some time to sleep. Are you feeling better now that you’ve omitted the 2 am pumping? How is your daughter taking to it? I considered waking up to pump too, but figured that due to my Multiple Sclerosis, getting a good night’s sleep was more important for…[Read more]

1st time posting here…has anyone heard of using this combination of foods to increase their milk supply and make it fattier? Avacado, tofu and brewers yeast. My little one is 15 weeks old today and STILL only weighs in at 10 lbs 3 oz. The pediatrician doesn’t seem worried and she eats about 12 oz of expressed milk while I’m at work and I…[Read more]

Mrslarge–Quite frankly, if you were formula feeding and your child was cranky or having tummy problems etc., your family would blame the formula…it’s a no win situation. As humans, we want to fix what is broken, and we are always seeking answers, so it doesn’t surprise me that we tend to over analyze and complicate the most basic and nat…[Read more]

Good luck 1byfaith, and congratulations on being able to pump for your baby’s good stuff! Please but don’t be discouraged if takes some time before you get the perfect latch. It took me almost two weeks before I felt comfortable with her latch, but just keep working with a LC, or the pediatrician’s office or whoever you can find for help.…[Read more]

Sleepy babiesâ€my daughter was a very sleepy eater, and sleepy baby, and a year later she still is! We would strip her down to her diaper and put cold wet wash cloths on her and she would still try to sleep through her feedings. I tried waking her up to feed her every 2 hours, I tried letting her sleep and feed when she woke up, but no matter wh…[Read more]

Yes jealousy is VERY normal for breastfeeding mamas, and I’m the WORST! I know I have struggled the entire time I’ve been providing BM to my daughter. From the beginning, I was jealous of all the babies who were gaining weight on BM (mine didn’t get out of the 3rd percentile until 6 – 9 months old). When she quit nursing at 4 or 5 m…[Read more]

MizRice88â€the breast is never empty…the flow may not be as fast, but your child will always get milk from them. It easily takes a month for your supply to regulate. If you’re trying to BF, most experts recommend not introducing any bottles or pacifires until the baby is 4 weeks old or older…all their sucking needs should come from you,…[Read more]

Rachelz-Almost all newborns are fussy in the evenings, they just have their times. Most hospitals are giving out copies of “purple crying” that talks about the infant’s fussy times, and it can last from a few weeks old up to 3 months old. Try to feed, make sure she isn’t dirty, make sure she is warm enough and just love on her during the…[Read more]

So my daughter turns 1 in 7 days…I mostly give her BM, but supplement w/ Formula when I don’t have enough BM. (She weaned a long time ago, but I refused to not give her the BM, so I pump). Is it ok to start giving her Cow’s milk 1 week early? She eats cheese and yoghurt w/ no problems. I will only be giving her like 1 bottle a day that I am short.

Madduxâ€I don’t know about the sore, but sometime my daughter makes a strange clicking noise too. In fact many of the other mom’s in a ‘Mom’s Group’ (run by an LC) I use to attend had the same sound from their babies. We were told that babies are very crafty and will manipulate the flow of the milk, so if the let down is too fast, they may ad…[Read more]

Ms. Ellis–despite popular misconceptions, formula and/or rice cereal will not cause a child to sleep longer. From the first night we brought our daughter home from the hospital she slept 5 hour chunks at night and she only received breast milk. It really depends on the child. Babies love routine. If he has eaten every two hours during the…[Read more]

BTW, I know there are many moms out there using fenugreek for their supply. I found I was spending close to $50 a month on the stuff, so I ended up ordering from http://www.drugstore.com.
