kidatrbaby: I know a lot of people who still nurse at night, I think it’s a personal choice that you have to decide when you and baby are ready for it. I personally was ready at 6 months for baby to wean at night. I didn’t do it cold turkey, cut it down to 1 feeding a night, then I shortened the feeding a few minutes at a time, then went to just…[Read more]

TonynOllysmommy: my LO went through phases like that too. If they start fussing, just get up and do something different, play, walk, sing…etc. and then go back to nursing. And keep track of your diet, some things you eat may upset your babies little tummy. Keep up the great work 🙂

nickykennedy: my baby is 15 months old and I’m in the same boat, she’s not biting me, but I’m just ready to be done! But i’m having a hard time too, b/c she’s not into whole milk AT ALL! so i feel guilty not giving her breastmilk when she won’t drink the whole milk! but i go back to work next month, so I think that will be the point when she…[Read more]

Angela, I had the same thoughts as you before I had my first, the thought of ANYONE seeing me breastfeeding aside from DH was mortifying for me. But, when baby girl came out, it kind of all changed for me. I figured I had been through labor and everyone saw the ‘worst’ of me, so how bad could it be?! And when the LC came in (and yes, it was a…[Read more]

amanda: yeah, it definitely takes your body sometime to get back to normal…especially since you are still BF, it will probably not be back to normal until a little while after you are done, but everyone is different, so it depends! My LO is 10 months and I have yet to get my period back (thank goodness!!)

Krystaldawn: not at all!! actually when you’re pumping or nursing, your body just gets the signal that it should produce more. The more you pump/nurse, the more you will produce! Someone once said that you are always producing milk, to think of it like when you are drinking through a straw, that someone is pouring a little back into your cup as…[Read more]

parkersmommy: any tips on how to wean successfully to a sippy cup? when and how did you do it? mine is the same, not a bottle drinker, she gnaws on a sippy right now, what did you put in yours? thanks!

Janna5: you’re doing the right thing, take her off, tell her no the first time. If she does it again, take her off and put her down. The important thing is try your hardest NOT to show her any reaction, that’s where she’s getting her kicks! Maybe try not to feed her until she’s really hungry, too, so that she won’t want to play around too much…[Read more]

heidi: maybe your baby is going through a growth spurt…I notice my baby who is 6 months old eating and sleeping more when she is growing or getting a tooth. or maybe she just wants to be comforted or suckle a little while longer. was she gaining enough weight while you were EBF?
MYBABYSURPRISE: yes, whenever you nurse, your body will…[Read more]

ticker: check out Kellymom.com for resources about that, I know there are things you can eat, but I’m not sure what they are, that website is WONDERFUL for breastfeeding info!

soon to be: If you’re going back in a few weeks, I would start pumping now or at least a week before. If you’re producing a lot of milk, I would have your LO eat off one side and then pump the other side. Morning is when you produce the most, so try to pump after your LO eats. If your LO has to eat off both sides, then just pump 1/2 hour after…[Read more]

npreg2: I agree, I have the Medela Pump-n-Style and I love it! This is the 2nd baby I’ve used it with and it’s great. Highly recommend it, totally worth the $280!!

AmyW: I always warm my milk up after it being stored in the fridge, my baby prefers it really warm. I heat water in a pyrex measuring glass in the microwave and then set my bottle in the warm water to heat it up. Usually takes 5 minutes or so. Feel free to ask any more questions, I know that pumping and nursing can be confusing!!

BABYCARTER: I had the opposite problem with my baby girl, she hated the bottle and only preferred the boob, which is how I think most babies are, they love the soft skin, rather than the bottle…but I would suggest at least giving your baby a bottle once every few days or once a day, whatever you prefer, just so you can be able to go out if you…[Read more]

Emma, I am so sorry for your loss and your family is in my prayers. I agree with everyone else and just let her wean on her own, I’m sure it’s comforting to both of you to continue nursing. She’ll stop when she’s ready.

YES!!! Enjoy your sleep when you can get it! As long as she’s gaining, she’ll wake to eat whenever she’s hungry!

I’m the same as dominique…my LO is currently 11 months old and plan on going for a time to be determined LOL! I thought I would stop at one year, but I think I’ll go through the summer until I go back to work when I won’t nurse or pump throughout the day, just nurse in morning/bedtime. But yes, BM or formula should be your LO’s #1 source of…[Read more]

Finally: I would definitely check with your doc on that one…I know you can take allergy meds, but have to be careful b/c they are known to dry up your milk if taken too much. Kellymom.com is a great resource for breastfeeding mothers, there is a link there for what meds you can take. Good luck!!

Tish: I’ve heard of toughening nipples, too, but I think that is a myth. Although it does hurt for a while, 3 months, like you experienced is a long time for it to hurt. Did you see a Lact. Consultant? It sounds like baby was not latching properly if it hurt so bad. When you deliver, will you have access to a LC? They are really helpful with…[Read more]
