Just checking to see if there was anyone out there. I am 19 weeks and my baby was just diagnosed w/hydrocephalus. Obviously, I’m freaked out. It would be nice to chat with others going thru (or have gone thru) a similar situation.
Hi Irene, the term for enlarged vents without a blockage over-production is Ventriculomegaly. There is a great board on this site – https://www.i-am-pregnant.com/encyclopedia/Pregnancy/Ventriculomegaly. Normal vents are about .6cm (6mm) and .8cm (8mm). When they are between 1.0cm (10mm) and 1.5cm (15mm) this considered mild. Over 15mm is cause…[Read more]
Hi Gogators, there are losts of posts on the ventriculomegaly page of this site. Technically at 10mm that is the name of the condition and not hydrocephlaus (which is a good thing). Kidney problems are quite common with this condition. Check out the other page (https://www.i-am-pregnant.com/encyclopedia/Babies/Ventriculomegaly&page=1#msg) and…[Read more]
Aleksandra, it sounds like your baby has Ventriculomegaly instead of Hydro at this point. There is a page on this board – https://www.i-am-pregnant.com/encyclopedia/Babies/Ventriculomegaly&page=1#msg that is very helpful. It is hard to get an accurate scan the further in gestation you are. Did they mention ventricle measurements? If the…[Read more]
Hi Janice, I know it isn’t quite the same condition, but I ran across this amazing family and little boy: http://winkfromheaven.blogspot.com/2004/09/were-having-little-boy.html. He has Hydranencephaly.
I actually had no intent to open the termination can of worms around here. I simply wanted to make it known that using my daughter as an excuse to consider a late term abortion is reprehensible. I would think that any other reasonable mother would feel the same, partyof5soon.
Hello Ladies, My daughter has one of the most severe cases of Hydro and is doing really well now. Most of the babies on this board are born completely normal. The most important thing is that each of these babies are complete blessings. Here is the latest video of my miracle swimming – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWdEI7L4ZsE.
There is a hydro board on babycenter that may be better for you to pose your question. Most of the cases here resolve and I don’t recall anyone else with 3rd vent dilation around here. You may have more luck with answers over there.
Hello to all the newbies, I’ve been around here for almost 2 years now. About 99.99999% of mild cases (13mm or less) wind up resolving by the third trimester. DHA or not. I took DHA even before I got preggo and my daughter still had severe hydro. It can’t hurt and I do feed her many things that contain DHA even now (she is 16 months). But,…[Read more]
Yes, Destmc, the brain is like a sponge. When the fluid is less, the brain will more than likely bounce back. Cases like mine where the brain was severely compressed for months can cause issues where the brain does not come back. But, in its place would be a cystic structure. There would either be brain matter or fluid. There can’t be open…[Read more]
