Hi everyone! I haven’t been on this site for at least 4 years now. I’m in the UK and my boy had ventricles that measured just around 13mm during pregnancy. He was discharged at around 6 weeks old saying they were happy with everything. Firstly can I say that he has turned out to be the most loving, funny and mischievous child even though a bit of…[Read more]

Hi to everyone. Just want to update. Charlie is now just gone 4 months. He is doing really well. He continues to be very big, weighing 9.42 kg at last weighing. He has a squint which I think is genetic rather than any other reason – just been referred to get it checked out. I would love to say that I don’t worry about his ventricles any more -…[Read more]

This is my first comment on any site. I wanted to say that this site and everyones comments whether positive or not so positive have and still are really helping me get my head around the whole ventriculomegaly thing. My husband and I were first made aware of this condition at out 20wk scan and have been riding an emotional rollercoaster ever…[Read more]

mylsdeniz, I’m sorry that today is such a painful one. I haven’t really got any words of wisdom or can say anything that can soothe the pain, but thinking of you. With regard to the TORCH blood screening (in the UK anyway) as Katie says, T = Toxoplasmosis, O = Other Infections i.e Parvovirus (slapped cheek) and others, R = Rubella, C =…[Read more]

Hi Katie, congratulations on your recent arrival! How are things going? I’m also in UK and just wondered whether you were advised to take such an increased amount of DHA? I’ve started taking 300mg but wondered whether safe to take more – anyone else know? I’m interested to find out what your experience was like after you found out about the bigger…[Read more]

Its OK! Worrying’s stopped, all normal, apparently movements peak around week 32/33! Note to self – STOP WORRYING about everything! Off to try and snatch some sleep before other 2 kids wake for school!

Hi Carine. Thank you so much for leaving your really encouraging message. I’m so pleased that everything has worked out so well for you. It goes to show that things can and do resolve themselves sometimes. I am just really hoping and praying that things will turn out OK for us. It is all the waiting that is the hardest thing to cope with. We…[Read more]

Thanks for that Katie, that has helped put my mind at rest. I think its so easy to start getting paranoid about everything little thing and seeing everything as a possible problem! Also thankyou Laura for your timely reminder – things were getting abit personal and attacking between certain ones and making uncomfortable reading which was having…[Read more]

Hi all – just a quick update. Our son Charlie was born last Thursday 19th April, weighing 9lb 14oz/4500kg! His head circumference was 38cm. The birth was quick and only used gas and air. We didn’t know what we would find once born as some will remember I had a real fear of the birth. If only we had known through all the worries and upset just…[Read more]

Hi all. We’ve been seen for last scan of the pregnancy @ 36wks and nothing changed with ventricle size – the left one still measuring 13mm. General size is showing large with a head circumference of 347.9 mm and abdominal circumference of 350mm with an estimated fetal weight at 36wks of 7lb 6oz so could potentially be 9.6-10lb baby boy. Also…[Read more]

I don’t know if this is of any help, I came across the tag from my 1st sons delivery the other day (they didn’t do ventricle measurements then) and he was born 3 weeks early and his head circumference at 37 weeks was 34.5cm. From things my consultant has said to us is that ventricle size of 13mm wouldn’t be putting pressure on the brain, so maybe…[Read more]

Hello babynoah from Finland and welcome! Thank you so much for sharing your story, one which is very familiar to all of us on this forum. I wish you the very best for a safe birth and am sure all will be fine with your baby. I can totally understand your apprehension for what if any, the outcome will be as I feel exactly the same. All the very best!

Oh no! Sorry to hear about your foot, you poor thing!! Thanks for being so honest about your feelings about seeing your son after the birth, it is exactly how I am feeling about it, I just seem to expect to see something totally abnormal – I feel really bad for having the feelings but just can’t help it. I wish we had a on/off worry switch! I’m…[Read more]

It sounds like you’re doing the right thing by getting a second opinion – I would if I didn’t feel content with the information I was being given. And it’s tough if the consultant doesn’t like it – he should have given you all the information you need to stop the worrying. I hope you get to speak to someone who can give you satisfying answers.…[Read more]

Hi Katie. I forgot to ask you how things are with your son after your concerns about noticing him being more distant after he’d been sleeping alot more and having temperature etc. Have things resolved or are you still having concerns? Through your pregnancy and since the birth have you just been seeing Drs and consultants in a local hospital or…[Read more]

Hi Jaycee. We had another scan yesterday @ 32weeks and the right vent had decreased to 9.1mm but the left was 13.3mm. Its always been the one on the left that has been on the larger side. The consultant says this wouldn’t be putting pressure on the brain and seemed happy with the fact that the measurement hasn’t increased dramatically. He also…[Read more]

Katie, hope you get the answers you need today – all thinking of you. It has made me very reflective this weekend after reading your post. The thing that gets to me about this condition is that the worry never goes away. One minute it’s possible to feel really positive about things and the next totally worried about everything. I’ve been…[Read more]
