My little one’s appetite seems to vary A LOT from one day to the next. It’s hard to know what she’s getting from her breastfeeds, but her feeds of solids vary from almost nothing to two feeds and a snack through the day. She’s 9 months old.

Is Lasik surgery something for your eyes? Why would nursing or having another baby have anything to do with it?

My baby is 9 months and rarely bites, but yesterday (her fourth tooth is just coming through) she really bit down hard!! OUCH!

kara G, I know this is maybe not very helpful, but if drinking lots of water and all the ‘home remedies’ like malted milk and oats don’t help, it could be you need to relax! Yeah, relax when you’re stressed about your supply and caring for a (possibly hungry) baby may be easier said than done, but worry and stress can be very detrimental to your…[Read more]

‘Grats, ozbaby! You shouldn’t express, unless you get uncomfortably ‘full’. If you express, you will keep making milk. But yeah, otherwise you should stop lactating fairly quickly. I think campimamma is right: the time varies just individually, but after a week or two it should be basically unnoticeable.

jensoontobmomof3, a chemist or pharmacist will advise you what’s safe to take while BFing. rose1003, I’ve had six babies and my advice is don’t bother with the burp if baby is sleeping.

3rdtimer, yeah, you’re right. There is no one solution. We should just all try to make informed choices. A bit of debate can be fun, too. Sorry if it upsets someone… didn’t mean to. 🙁

Hello Bri. Kym. I DO understand… I’m breastfeeding Baby #6 now and I worked full time until baby #5 came along. You seem to be enjoying finding someone to be annoyed with! I already explained that I do applaud you all, and meds are okay if you need them, but I feel they are over-prescribed. A lot of times a supportive friend or partner and…[Read more]

kym22, breastmilk is low in iron so some pediatricians recommend iron fortified baby cereal, but the truth is the iron that there is in breastmilk is in a form very easy to digest and absorb, so they don’t need added iron and in fact the iron fortified cereal causes constipation for some babies. God knows best, and EBF babies don’t need extra…[Read more]

campimamma, if you wean before 12 months, it should be onto formula. Cow’s milk is the perfect food for baby cows not baby people. But if you keep breastfeeding until Baby’s birthday, then wean, it can be onto solid food with a hefty component of dairy food. That’s what I plan to do – actually, I am not even in a hurry to wean at 12 months…

Yeah, Bri’s right, once baby is older and having some solids, you can skip even a day or two or three, and pick up again. I have never been successful at pumping, but my little boy stayed at my sister’s for three days (on formula) when he was about 5 months old, and although I got very engorged, we picked up right away, when he got home. I never…[Read more]

Angie, af is often irregular when you are breastfeeding. It’s strange that it was regular and then late, but not that unusual.

anniemarie, you’re REALLY lucky to be able to nurse and work!! I’d say forget the pumping altogether, if you can nurse when he’s hungry! I used to have a full time job where I could duck home and feed my little one at morning tea and lunch times and never had to pump as long as I had that lovely situation. It was brilliant! I hated pumping and…[Read more]

Dulcianasmom, I reckon you’re lucky! My babes have all been on the other side of the spectrum – nursing for half an hour a side. But from what I’ve heard, 5 – 10 minutes is plenty of time for a super-efficient baby!

That’s amazing, oldie44! I barely manages two weeks of pumping when I had a premmie baby in NICU. Can’t imagine 10 months!!!

gladek, you’re still a spring chicken! I’m 43, but yeah, this LO is our last 🙁 Hoping for grandchildren, when Penny gets too big for all these cuddles! Kym22, please don’t become a stranger on this page!!! Come let us know how you and LO are doing with the transition to formula, and just generally how you’re going. Try to just relax and…[Read more]

charcharsuperstar, foods that may give baby gas and/or colic include most green veges (cabbage, brussel sprouts, brocolli, beans) but spinach and silverbeet are a good choice. Also chilli and spicy food, even chocolate can irritate some babies. Foods that make you a little gassy are best avoided, too. Your little one is one month old, so could be…[Read more]

I sleep with my 8 month old, and she’s getting her 4th tooth. I slept with my previous babies until they were like 1 or2 years old. Only one of them ever had any tooth decay, and it was an adult molar, so no correlation with co-sleeping. Babies produce a lot of saliva, so their teeth are protected by that. I do brush Baby’s teeth though, once a…[Read more]
