I work with a lady who has a child with downs and hirshsprungs. Her child also had the pull through surgery which was not successful. She is pretty much constantly soiled and her mom has to rinse off her bottom several times a day to keep her clean. Always having stool on her bum is causing horrid diaper rash, im not talking regular old diaper…[Read more]

mrs. Parker, hypospadia can not be diagnosed in utero. We didnt know my son had this until after he was born. Even if your son does…its an easy fix and not something to be concerned about.

Had my ultrasound and so far it looks as though this baby will not have a club foot!! So excited! I cant wait to buy normal sleepers and cuddle a baby without a cast or clunky boots and bars!!

probably very similar. My family has no history of a club foot, but each generation seemed to get more and more pigeon toed! until eventually my son was born pigeon toed enough they classified it as a club foot! His case was very minor, thank god…we were lucky and avoided any surgery including the tenotomy that most babies require!

Thanks for sharing that link Angelia, very interesting. I also was a part of that support group on yahoo as well, havent visited much lately though. It was fantastic though! I also had the opportunity to access DR. Ponsetti’s email address through that site and emailed him pictures of my son’s foot. He emailed me back within a week! Very…[Read more]

my son was born with a left club foot. he had six weeks of serial casting and then three months of the boots and bar 23 hours a day. He is now 8 months old and wears them at night and you would not know he was born with a club foot. Its beautiful! If anyone needs any advice or support Ive been there!!

The ponsetti method is finally just catching on, I would recommend it as opposed to surgery. The long term results are more satisfactory with the ponsetti method. Basically there is no surgery involved, the most invasive part is the tenotomy if needed (small cut in heel to lengthen heel cord). Apparently now people who had surgery are complaining…[Read more]

does anyone know the chances of having a second baby with club foot? My first baby had a left club foot and I am pregnant again, just curious as to what the chances are this one will have it too. Also does anyone know how early they can detect it? With my first I didnt know until 25 weeks, i have an ultrasound at 12 weeks, can they tell then?

  • lin replied to the topic Clubfoot in the forum Group logo of ParentsBirth Forum 3 years, 6 months ago

I agree erin, also things have progressed so much since you were a baby that its usually as simple as casting and a foot brace now! My son has had no surgery and his foot is completly corrected. It can be stressful at time dealing with the shoes and the casts especially if the baby resists either one, but I would take a club foot any day compared…[Read more]

I admire your decision NOT to terminate your pregnancy. Just to give you some encouragement…. I work as a social worker with families and children with disabilities. There is one mother I work with who has a daughter that was born with Spina Bifida. She is now 22, very bright and CAN WALK! No wheel chair, no braces! There are positive outcomes…[Read more]

Tell her to ask for an amnio if she wants to know for sure, otherwise she will have to wait until the baby is born to know. Hope things work out for your sister.

turltlemom- There is actually several people on this site that are dealing with enlarged brain ventricles and hydrochepalus that can offer some support. Look under the ventriculomegaly forum in the pregnancy section. You will find a lot of mom’s experiencing the same thing!

  • lin replied to the topic Colpocephaly in the forum Group logo of ParentsBirth Forum 3 years, 6 months ago

You should check out the ventriculomegaly forum on this site. Enlarged ventricles are very common, you may find someone on there with a similar story as you. I was told my sons left ventricle was enlarged too, but by 36 weeks the ultrasound had showed that it corrected itself. I know these things are so hard to hear, try to stay positive, Im sure…[Read more]

my son was born with hypospadia. Luckily his uretha was located in the right spot so it did not need to be corrected. He does have extra foreskin and such. Right now he is kind of stuck in the middle…doesnt look circumcised but he doesnt look as though he wasnt. My doctor says he can perform a circumcision at one year old but other than that we…[Read more]

Recap…my son was born with hypospadia, after careful examination it appeared that his urethra was just a tad lower than where it was supposed to be. They left it for a year to see what would happen, and same story. Just a little lower than where it should be. So he required no surgical intervention to fix that. He did however look different,…[Read more]

My heart goes out to all of you. A friend of mine was not given an early scan because of where they live and a high abortion rate if females are conceived. Anyhow finally at 28 weeks they were going in for a scan to find out the sex of the baby and found out she had this condition. They induced labor within a week I believe. Such a heartbreaking…[Read more]
