babyinjuly09- I gad steroid shots back when I was 25 weeks. They did seem to hurt worse than the prog shots. The only side effect that I had, and is generally common, is elevated blood sugars. I am gest diabetes so I had to be watched during that week of the steroid shots. I hope you do well with them.

the3wolfes- there is nothing to be scared about/. I got my cerclage at 14 weeks and it was a quick outpatient procedure. I probably was there for about 4 hours. They checked me in, placed an IV, and sent me own my way. I had an epidural and the surgery probably lasted about 20 minutes. I recovered for about an hour to 1 1/2 hr. I just had to wait…[Read more]

Baxter- I am a firm believer in not terminating a pregnancy. There have been past women on this website and other who were dilated and they were on strict/complete bedrest in the hospital. With the help of antibiotics, fluids, and positioning many made it through. Every situation is different and I would do everything that I can to keep my baby.…[Read more]

missyminx-i would go with the shots. With the supp there is really no way to know how much you are absorbing oppose to the shots where it is measured and injected into the muscle. The only thing with the shots is that you either have to get your partner to do it or go to the md office or a neighbor. I am a nurse and I use to take it to work and…[Read more]

Baxter I am so sorry for your lost. I can truly understand what you are going through. I lost my first at 18 weeks 2 years ago so I know that is hard. Everyone grieves differently so don’t be ashamed of how you deal with the situation. You in and the wife are in my prayers…much love.

halina-the steroid shots are given to speed up the the lung maturity of the baby. Normally the baby’s lung are fully matured as early as week 36 but definitely starting 37 weeks. Before 37 weeks it is given to in situations where the doctor thinks that you may go into labor sooner than later. For instance, I had a dose at 25 weeks when my cervix…[Read more]

mperez. I have a cerclage which was placed at 14 weeks. My doctor did not put me on bedrest at first. So I went to work taking it easy as much as I could considering that I am a nurse moving around a lot. At my 19th week is when my cervix began to shorten (less than 2.0cm) and funneling. By the 24th week it was less than1 cm. At that time the docs…[Read more]

Hi adriana03- I have been on prog shots since 18 weeks. I have a home health nurse to come out and give me the injections since I am on bederest. They are not that bad. The first one may hurt, but after that I really can’t tell the difference. I lost my first at 18 weeks due to IC. Now that I am 31 weeks I think the shots have contributed to it. I…[Read more]

Baxter-you and the wife have to all you can to save that baby. Many women have been in situations like this and have made it. Can you transfer to another facility that are more advance in tackling high risk issues such as this. I think the advantage of GD is the ability to lose weight. That is the only reason why I gained about 12 pounds the entire preg so far…an I was on bedrest. Its really the diet you have to follow. I still was able to sneak in those brownies and ice cream at night for a snack. KNA I envy you…I want my cerclage out…it is starting to become…[Read more]

nicholasmom-every doctor is so different when it comes to measuring the cervix. I have heard of many different approaches. If you are very concerned then ask him. Some will say if the cerclage is in then there is no need to mess with it.
