Month 11

Your baby is getting ready to take his first steps! He can stand on his own and if you hold onto his hands, he will walk. He does a good job of bending, squatting, stooping and getting back to a standing position. You might be able to tell if he is going to be right or lefthanded.

Your baby knows that people and objects have names. Expand her vocabulary by continuing to read, sing and talk to her. If you laugh at something your baby does, she will do it again. She will imitate everything that you do. She sees an expression on your face and will mimic it. She is learning what animals and people do. If she sees a cat ot dog, she will meow and bark. If your baby knows that you are dissapointed or upset with her, she will hide from you.

Each baby is different and develops at different paces. Just because your first child walked at 11 months, does not mean this child will. If you are concerned about your child’s development, speak to his doctor. Remember that the more you interact and guide him, the more he will develop. If your baby gets frustrated when trying to do something new, don’t push him. This will cause him to get frustrated and he will lose self confidence.

Show your child what you expect out of him. Realistic expectations will help your child follow directions better. She is still learning what is acceptable and what is not, and it is your job to guide her. Avoiding situations where you have to constantly redirect your baby will make it easier on you and him both. Love, attention and affection are all part of effective discipline. Always remember to praise your child when you see her being appropriate.

Toys that are good for this age are: books, push toys, ride on toys, balls, stacking rings, simple puzzles, telephones, puppets, large cars and trucks, shape boxes, pegboards and pegs, linking toys, large blocks, toys with textures, noisy toys, dolls and stuffed animals. Pretend play toys are also appropriate. Dress up clothes, hats and pretend foods are all good for little learners.

Your child is probably eating a wide variety of foods at this point. She is also getting better control of using a spoon, although alot still ends up in the floor. Although she is still nursing or being bottle-fed formula, she should be drinking juice or water from a cup. Remember to offer her a wide variety of nutritional foods. Establishing healthy eating habits now will go along ways in the future.

Hi, My daughter is 6.5 months. Our pediatrician has recommended tummy time everyday to encourage her to start crawling. She frequently lifts her head and straightens out her legs like she wants to start crawling or walking. However, when I put her on her tummy after a minute or two she gets frustrated and starts to cry. It breaks my heart to hear her cry so I change positions and sometimes put her on her side to see if she wants to roll over in different directions to encourage movement. I want to do everything that I can to encourage crawling, but at the same time I want to create a positive experience. I was wondering if you have any advice about how you encouraged your babies to start crawling. Thanks.

Hello Everyone! I have not been on for forever! We have been so busy. Teddy has Cerebral Palsy and he goes to Physical Therapy 3 times a week. He has to wear KAFOs, which are leg braces that support his Knees, Ankles, and feet. He has only had those on for a week. He was wearing AFOs but his knees started turning in. He also has to wear hand splints for his hands He is growing so fast! He has 8 teeth in and is getting his molars in now. Because of the cerebral palsy he only low crawls. He does pull himself up but he may not walk until 2 years old. He has been on a sippy cup for 3 months and eats whatever he can get his hands on. I am posting a few pics of him! At his year check up he was 26 1/2 inches long and 21 lbs....Hard to believe he was so tiny when he was born. You can't tell he was born 8 weeks too early!

My oldest has had tubes. This is the reason why i brought it up to the doctor yesterday and was happy they wanted to do it. When my oldest had it done he the surgery itself was only about 15 min but waking up took longer.

  8. MattiesMomma 29 December 2015

Ja-Kerry---Mattie is the exact same way, when she gets upset she tries to bite she has been doing that for about 2 months now, although she doesnt have any teeth yet so it doesnt do any damage yet. She also loves my cell phone and will throw it also if it closes. We have been trying to break her of the biting by telling her its not okay obviously and putting her in her crib when she does it. Sounds like our little ones are alot alike.

Hi everyone. I haven't been on like usual b/c I've been letting my b/f keep my laptop at the hospital so she can research her dd cancer and learn all she can about it. The have classified her cancer as stage 4(s), which is a special stage b/c of her age. But it only goes to stage 5, so its not good. They told her today that it has also spread to her pancreas.:( She starts chemo tomorrow night, and they should know by feb if it is shrinking her mets down to a size that is operable, b/c as of now its not. Okay so about Mr Jiovanni, I took him to the ER and 2 drs listened to his chest and said his lungs were clear and its just a cough and fever (oh, he has a fever BTW) and they didn't give me crap to help him. He is STILL gagging and hacking so hard he is throwing up his bottles and the only thing he has been taking in is a little pedialyte. I'm getting worried b/c his diapers have been pretty dry, the one this morning hadn't been pee'd in at all, and I see dehydration in his near furture if he doesn't take in more than he has been, or keep it down at least. So IDK, I might take him back in. We went to er very early yesterday morning and he's still basically the same. If he is the same by tomorrow morn I'm taking him back. Its like when he throws up its only b/c he is hacking SOOOOO hard, and when he does it has mucus all in it from swallowing all that crap he's bringing up, gross! Awwwwwww! All these sick babes! Glad to hear Jaleah is feeling better and sorry to hear Even had an allergic reaction! I'm allergic to Bactrim, another antibiotic. They gave it to me for a UTI and I ended up with a high fever, hives (rash), vomiting, sweating uncontrollably, BLAH! It wasn't fun! WELCOME BACK COWGIRL! Teddy is adorable! So, I am like emotionally drained at this point. I'm not eating very much b/c I always feel so sick about my darling GD. I'm constantly thinking about it. I have to hide my tears b/c sometimes they just come and my kids are around and I don't want them to see and ask why. I wish so bad that this never happened. I wish it were all a dream........

my baby is 1 next week on the 5th of jan! I cant believe it...still slightly in denial haha aww where has the year gone!!!

  12. ProudMommyofaSon 29 December 2015

jessberr31- Danny did that back in Oct and they told he had the swine flu just a different case of it. They SD they do not prescribe any cough med b/c they are too young and that the appropriate age they do give cough med to is 2. Its crazy cause they are not home dealing with it makes me really mad but what can i do. Danny was better in a week. He still cough for another week but not as bad. So best of luck to you in getting med for the cough. All they gave for him is tamiflu and he took that for 5 days. Danny also had a temp of 104.5 and kept spiking up further kinda scary.Hope Everyone's babies get well and stay well. I don't think the H1N shot works.

  15. 1sttimeToya 29 December 2015

my baby is 11 months with not a tooth in her mouth! lol is this normal? my newphew is two months older than her and already has 8 teeth!

  16. kinta 30 December 2015

I heard they dont give meds for coughing because its productive in getting whatever is in there cheast out? I dont know though! It's probably for coughs that arent very serious...

  17. ErinA 30 December 2015

they have found alot of 'cough' medicines not to be hepful in kids under the age of 2 as well as the fact that they have never actually been tested on kids younger than 2 and the risk of taking the med. may out weight the benefits.

  18. jessberr31 30 December 2015

Yay! We made it through the night last night without having a coughing episode and puking! Jiovanni's cough is much better today and he's kept down all the formula I gave him this morning and now he's back to his regular bottles. I had googled cough and fever in infants and it was basically saying he has the common cold, but in babies the coughing triggers their gag reflex and everything in their bellies comes up. Makes sense. But jeez, I felt so bad for him! Just glad he's getting better now. But he's also passed on his cold to me and Angelo, so far. Hope all the other sick babies are feeling better!

happy bday to the almost 1 year olds! i can't believe my little girl is almost 1 (a couple more weeks). i've starting planning her party...we're going to have a big blow-out! we're doing a very girly cupcake and dessert theme.

  20. Memer 30 December 2015

My baby is almost a year and has just two little teeth peeping in on the bottom. I read it's normal if they don't get teeth until after their 1st birthday.

  21. cutelilsurprise 31 December 2015

Will your LOs be eating cake on their birthdays? If so, what kind of cake are you planning on feeding them? I've tried to keep sweets away from Seth, but would like for him to have some of his birthday cake. I just don't know if it's a good idea to introduce sugary foods now or not.

Hey everyone! Haven't been on for a couple of months. Hudson will be a year old on the 6th {next Wed.} hard to believe that this time last year I was on here complaining about being overdue! {he was 11 days past due date!!} He has been walking since the day after turning 10 months, and is running everywhere now! Talk alot more too! Everything is 'whats that' & pointing hehe...so cute! I am still breastfeeding, and plan to for awhile still. Hope everyones little ones are doing well! 23. Mommytoamiracle 31 December 2015

hey ladies, im wondering if u can help me..for u with walking LO's do u notice that they are a little bow-legged? my friend told me that her son looked that way when he started to walk but im concerned cuz DJ's left foot seems to turn in when he walks. i called his doctor but he said he will just see him at his 1 year visit, which is fine. im just curious if u noticed this on ur kids? i worry that being 25 lbs and walking at 9 months has affected his growing bones somehow. eek!

  24. ErinA 31 December 2015

bow-leggedness is normal at this age and it will slowly decrease over time as they continue to place more weight on them.

  25. jessberr31 31 December 2015

Aw, my son James was really bow-legged when he was walking, he walked at 8mo, and I always thought it was b/c he walked so early. But it went away as he grew. Jiovanni is a little bowlegged too, but so is his daddy so I don't know if he will grow out of it or not. I think its cute, lol! But I'm pretty sure its okay unless it gets progressivly worse.

  26. sweetp22 31 December 2015

Hey ladies, I haven't been on for a while so I have a lot of catching up to do. Jack is being a terrorist the last week... he's learned how to stand up in his crib and he will not sleep! He just stands and cries b/c he can't figure out how to get down. Is anyone else going through this??? Anyway, hope you all had a great holiday and Happy New Year!!

  27. citymami 31 December 2015

Happy New Year everyone and thanks to the many people on this site who have posted and given me some great parenting tips, as a first timer I've really learnt a lot from posts on this sit, sincerely. It's been a nice coffee break for me during what's been quite a isolating year a times being a first time stay at home mom. I'm taking my baby to classes 3 times a week form January (gym, music and a story telling/dancing thingy)..nervous about the germs (LOL I think I'm ocd about germs now) but very excited about the socialization and structure it will bring to my son's life. Congrats to all the pregnant ladies too. Going back to the breast feeding drama without any bitterness I'd like to say if I was having a second child I'd have a lactation consultant on speed dial lol (I failed first time around) I take my hat off to all the breast feeders it is the best and to me it's a admirable achievement to have perfected it and kept it up this long.
