Month 13

The second year of life has alot in store for your toddler. He is moving from babyhood to childhood. It is important to give your child the love, support, patience, encouragement and guidance that he needs. Toddlers are a challenge and at times, he may test your patience. Continue to set rules and enforce them. Soon your child will learn his limits.

You might notice that your child has developed new fears. This is normal and should pass when she sees that there is really nothing to be afraid of. Some children are afraid of separation, change, inanimate obects, animals and imaginary creatures. If you subjected your child to these types of objects from a young age, she may not show fear. Respect her fears and gently tell her there is nothing to be afraid of.

Because your baby is probably standing and walking well, he does not like any type of restraint. Occasionally, there are times that he may need to be in a playpen for safety. Your baby is beginning to do things for attention and likes when you clap or acknowledge her cuteness. At this point, she is beginning to adjust to babysitters but she is still afraid of strangers. She will empty the contents out of anything that you allow her to. She likes to take socks out of drawers, pots out of cabinets, etc. It is very important that you have childproofed your home and made a safe place for your toddler to explore.

Language skills are developing and he will begin saying simple words. Sometimes he gets frustrated if he can not find the words to say. Your child will respond to his name and he will look in the right direction when you ask him where an object is. He has begun to understand the names of objects, foods, people and animals. You might notice that he has a favorite book and will want you to read it over and over.

Your child does like to play alone sometimes, but she really likes to play with you. She likes to hide and have you find her. Some of her favorite toys are push and pull toys, simple ride on toys, pretend play, building materials, crayons and paper, cars and trucks, balls and other bright objects. Providing her a variety of educational toys will encourage her learning. Help her build towers and play imitation games with her.

Sometimes it is hard for babies to give up the bottle or breast. Weaning from the breast or bottle should be done slowly. Many babies want to nurse or drink from a bottle before bed and when they wake up. Do not allow your child to take a bottle or cup to bed with her. By now, she can drink whole milk. Offer her milk in a cup and encourage her to drink from it. She will drink less milk as she is eating more foods. Soon your child will forget about the breast or bottle. Don’t offer it if she has moved on.

Yussssss. So is SLC fine, or should we do Tennessee, North Georgia, or somewhere else? Where else is a good vacation spot for October? We GOTTA go somewhere with pretty treeeeees! lol

  2. mrsmyersJessie 28 December 2015

So right now for yes, we have Jessie, Robbie, Wesley, Amanda, Geoff, Lorelai, Scarlett, Ariana, Jed, Rhys, Sara, Colton, and Baby Price #4. And for maybe we have Tina, David, Kylie, Cheryl, David, DJ, Misty, Eric, and Samuel. Is that right? Did I miss anyone? If everyone moves over to the yes column, we'd have 13 adults and 9 children. I'll hold up on looking for a house until we find out exactly how much space we'll need, and we all pick a destination.

  3. Allynne7Jaime 28 December 2015

Geez, Im off sick for one day and I miss everything! So, Scott's in (no matter the location) BUT he demends that *if* we do SLC he gets to rent one of those big jeeps (or whatever) from some Moab (?) rental place so he can go off-roading. So if we're doing that I'm getting you ladies to send your men with him. I *know* how he's going to be driving! He even had the audacity to say we could put a carseat in there! Uh, no, not when he'll be driving like a bull let loose in a china shop! I know him! He drives like a child when-ever he can. Sigh...

  4. Allynne7Jaime 28 December 2015

And can I just say how very precious your christmas cards are! I've got them up on my fridge and when Scott saw Ella he thought I had taken Cicely for photo's without him!

  5. Allynne7Jaime 28 December 2015

YES: Jaime, Scott, & Cicely; Jessie, Robbie, & Wesley; Amanda, Geoff, Lorelai, & Scarlett; Ariana, Jed, & Rhys; Sara, Colton, & Baby Price #4.

  6. mrsmyersJessie 28 December 2015

Ok, I've been on Facebook too long. I was looking for a like button to like Jaime's comment, lolol. YAY for another yes!!! And I agree about the Christmas cards. I have all of mine taped up on the wall around our pantry door. I should take a picture. They all look so nice.

jessie add 1 more adult to mine i cant go alone and i will likely fly either way so it does not matter to me where or how far....

  8. mrsmyersJessie 28 December 2015

It doesn't matter to me where we go, either. I'm kinda wanting to do Tenneseee, because the fall foliage is amazing. But I'm so in love with that SLC house, and I've never been to Utah, so I'm stuck in the middle. I also found another house in SLC that's gorgeous, and less expensive. It's only $449 a night. So as it stands right now, it would be only $89 a night per family. That's just incredible. And if everyone moves to yes, it'll only be $56 a night per family! :O Oh and this is the house...

  9. SPUDinTHEovenTina 28 December 2015

Well move us to YES, Dave just said he's in! I'm so excited! I just asked him and he said That'd be fine. YAY! I'm pretty in love with the first house in SLC, but if you ladies would rather go somewhere more central that that should be fine too. So Tina, Dave, Kylie, and baby #2!

  10. mrsmyersJessie 28 December 2015

I can't even tell you girls how excited I am. It's gonna be such a long wait! But it'll be worth it!! Hopefully all the little ones are done with their Terrible Two's, lol.

  11. mrsmyersJessie 28 December 2015

This one looks really nice! I'm trying to find houses with nice game rooms for the boys, lol.

  12. mrsmyersJessie 28 December 2015

Ok I think I might be obsessed a little. And I've realized I'm also obsessed with windows. Look at this house! I think I've looked at this one before, long time ago. It is GORGEOUS! WINDOWS!!!

  13. margysd 29 December 2015

Hi, My daughter is 6.5 months. Our pediatrician has recommended tummy time everyday to encourage her to start crawling. She frequently lifts her head and straightens out her legs like she wants to start crawling or walking. However, when I put her on her tummy after a minute or two she gets frustrated and starts to cry. It breaks my heart to hear her cry so I change positions and sometimes put her on her side to see if she wants to roll over in different directions to encourage movement. I want to do everything that I can to encourage crawling, but at the same time I want to create a positive experience. I was wondering if you have any advice about how you encouraged your babies to start crawling. Thanks.

it'll be like a crazy preschool! 10 3 year olds!!!!!!!!! plus a few other little ones sprinkled in'll be AWESOME!

  15. ari08ariana 29 December 2015

Here are things Jed would like in a house: A bar, a pool table, a bed. thats pretty much all he needs. haha. Amanda, Jed would totally be up for maningthe bar with geoff. He ' hates' me because i wont let him keep a full bar in the house. Sigh. It's like who ever comes over to drink it?? So he'd love to bartend and just drink with some guys. he doesnt have many guy friends, they all kinda dumped him once he got a real job and a baby. :(

  16. i-am-pregnant 29 December 2015

Listen girls, you can totally count Dave OUT- there is no way he'll go! I'm not even going to get into it, I don't expect him to go, it's not him! Never mind he's a heating tech and doesn't get anytime off after August.

  17. i-am-pregnant 29 December 2015

I think he's more like Sara's husband, like if it were an hour away... MAYBE he'd consider it, lol!

  18. ari08ariana 29 December 2015

wow sara that house is insane. haha. So are we still thinking SLC or somewhere else now? how far in advance do you need to book these places?I mean i would assume 2 years is plenty of time to research, find and book but you never know.

  19. excitedmistymisty 29 December 2015

holy smackey! i get samuel to bed early and don't get on IAP and i have to go back a WHOLE PAGE!!! i didn't even have to do that while i was in VA for 4 days! you girls are so funny...Eric is a definate no (he is much like sara and cheryl's husband) i just need to convince him that i'll go alone...i don't have a problem with it AT ALL...i lived in europe alone, traveled everywhere, so me and samster is nothing...sara, are you going to fly out of raleigh or charlotte (unless we go to Tenn of course)...let me know, i might fly out of NC too (just have my parents take me to the airport)

  20. excitedmistymisty 29 December 2015

  24. mrsmyersJessie 29 December 2015

How's about these ones, gals? or I think that first one (the dream one) in SLC might be a little too pricey. I don't want us to have to break the bank, ya know? I don't know... The two I just linked to in TN are $400 and $525 a night. The SLC house is $850 a night. What do you guys think? Worth it? Or a little too much? Ooh, and Sara. I like the idea of Missouri. I never really thought of that. They've got some good gambling, lol.

  25. excitedmistymisty 29 December 2015

Wow Sara, that last one is awesome...the Mansion in the Sky...holy smackey! Let's talk birthday's...what kind of massive party will we be having?! I'll bring my cupcake decorating stuff...we can make tons of cupcakes and cakes! Even if it's just us that is still a lot of food!

  26. mrsmyersJessie 29 December 2015

Oh, the SLC house went from $790 a night to $850 a night because I emailed the owner to ask questions and it's $60 a night if we want theatre and hot tub access. I figured we would definitely want that! So that's why it went up...

  27. ari08ariana 29 December 2015

they charge for hot tub access? thats awful.. even hotels even u hot tub included!! I've never been to the middle of the country or even mountain time. We are up for anyplace. we should def make cupcakes for their party. remember ladies they will be turning 3 years old, they will not be our little babies anymore. So maybe we should plan some games and adinner for them. Maybe an arts and crafts thing too?

  28. ari08ariana 29 December 2015

oh and question: will we be telling this owners that we are bringing 10 3 year olds and a few babies to their house? if anything broke or damaged of course we'd pay to fix it, but i just wonder if people are gonna think twice about renting to a group with 10 toddlers. Maybe we should not tell them, just says its a family get together or something?

  29. ari08ariana 29 December 2015

even though its october..I would not mind going place warmer.. hehe..I am always a fan of warm. unless i'm gonna be skiing.

  30. mrsmyersJessie 29 December 2015

I don't think it will matter to them that we have so many toddlers. No matter where we go, we'll have probably a pretty hefty security deposit. The deposit for the SLC house is $1500. Refundable, of course.

  31. mrsmyersJessie 29 December 2015

Mannnn, I had a grumpy pants baby boy today. I think he might have another toofer coming in or something. He was in rare form all day!

  32. ari08ariana 29 December 2015

Do you ladies still give ur tots their food directly in their tray or do you put it in bowls and plates?

  33. LorelaismomAmanda 29 December 2015

I've always given her food in a bowl/plate. On the off time that she tries to dump it we put it on the tray. We've only had to do that a couple of times though.

  34. mrsmyersJessie 29 December 2015

I do both, but mostly it still goes directly on the tray. Most of the time we put it on a plate, it ends up on his lap. I did give him a plate tonight, and he did pretty well with it. It didn't end up on his lap, but he was making quite a racket banging his spoon on it. I tried one of those plates with the suction cups on the bottom, and it wasn't worth a crap. Wesley had it figured out in about 2 minutes. It wasn't a very good quality suction, lol.

  35. LorelaismomAmanda 29 December 2015

Holy Smackrel! That Mansion in the Sky one is dope! lol My only question is who had the bright idea of doing hardwood floors, walls, and ceilings?! That was crazy!

  36. mrsmyersJessie 29 December 2015

Yeah, I'm loving that Mansion in the Sky, too. Robbie would spend the whole time in the game room and/or the theatre, lol.

  37. mrsmyersJessie 29 December 2015

Ok this is my new favorite! It's huge, it's smack dab in the middle of the country, the price is right! (COME ON DOWNNNNNNN!)

  38. excitedmistymisty 29 December 2015

so you guys know i enjoy writing...i kind of miss my working days of grant writing and stuff...SOOOOOOOOO i submitted a 100 word proposition to baby talk magazine about the importance of online communities for mom's and how it's beneficial...and they have agreed to let me write a 500 word article! don't worry, i won't use any names or any of our stories :0) it doesn't mean we'll get in the magazine...but i'm going to ask them to help us get together...i know it's a super super super long shot, but if we could all meet and have someone pay for part of it, it would be nice!
