Hey…I`m 34 weeks pregnant and this afternoon I keep getting a tightening…crampy kind of feeling down the sides and across the top of my stomach…it`s more high up than low down…but it`s quite painful. It keeps getting worse then going off a bit. I just wondered if anyone has anything similar or knows what it could be please?
Could be Braxton Hicks, or could be real contractions? Do they go away if you change positions or walk around? Or does drinking a lot of water help them go away? Normally a BH will not be really painful, and they aren’t regular nor would they increase in intensity. If you are experiencing these pains more and more frequently, on a steady basis, and they keep getting worse or won’t go away with changing positions and such, I would call the doc!
Braxton Hicks Contractions: Can be very strong and painful at times! They occur more when you are dehydrated as your uterus is actually irritated from the lack of water in your system and contracts in response. IF you have these very frequently, drink water and see if they go away. However, Braxton hicks contractions do train your uterus for labour and prepare baby for the upcoming show. If the contractions don’t go away and become regular, then there’s a good chance you may be in early labour and should go to the hospital or see your doctor immediately.
I’ve been having it for a couple weeks now, I went to the doctor for my check up and he said it sounded like I was having braxton hicks, to sit down and rest for about 15mins and then go on about what I was doing, you can also take tylenol if its really bad or seems to bother you. Braxton hicks is just its way of getting you prepared for the real deal in the next few weeks 🙂 goodluck!
time theme if they form a pattern you are having contractions if not they are braxton hicks if they do form a pattern and you have more than 4 in one hour you could be in preterm labor and you need to go to the hospital to stop them since you are only 34 weeks and it’s best to keep baby in till at least 37 weeks
